ZOOMERS YOUTH SPOTLIGHT: Marti Stetter

Marti Stetter has been married to Dug for 14 years. They are originally from New Jersey. Dug has a 24 y/o son, Austin who lives in TN. Marti is a Retired NJ Bus Driver of 26 years. She now spends most of her time at Imagine School North Port as the Cross Country Coach, assisting as a Bus Aide, in the Kitchen, and mentoring the ISNP Young Marines. Dug is also a large part of ISNP, as the Transportation Director and Treasurer. Marti and Dug are best known for their Timing Company, founded in 2015, Durti Runners Race Timing. As Race Directors, Marti is able to run every race she and Dug time, thus she has run 44 Races from 01/06/19-07/04/19! Wow, that is an accomplishment!! Marti and Dug have been Zoomers members since 2011, when they moved from NJ. The Firecracker 5K was her 1st Zoomers Race. They jumped right in with Dug volunteering to be President and Marti as Mem-bership Coordinator. They were in charge of the Four week Kids 1 mile Summer Fun Runs for 4 years. They instituted the Coffee Fun Runs at Los Dos Cristianos. Marti has been a Runner since age 42 when she wanted to lose weight. She has taken off over 35lbs since that time and won 1000’s of races in her age group. Marti’s favorite races were the NYC Marathon in 2012, as it is so difficult to qualify and she finally did. She really enjoyed the Lincoln Tunnel 4 miler from NJ to NY and back, people were yelling in the tunnel the whole way! The longest distance race Marti ever accomplished was the Tick Tock Race in 08/2016 where she ran 62.5 miles in 11.5 hours. Her PR is 21:53 in the Father’s Day 5K. Marti, you rock! Marti says she runs now for the camaraderie, to mentor the young kids, to assist raising money for schol-arships for ISNP Young Marines and Zoomers Student Athletes. Zoomers thanks Marti and Dug for all they do for our Running Community.

COACHES CORNER

Invest in the right pair of running shoes Go for distance rather than time - slow it down, be patient, and don't worry about your pace.

Remember that rest days are training days, too..

Join a running group. (If you are reading this, you already did)

Make running a habit, even if that means getting out for a few minutes per day.

Build mileage gradually.

Don't dread taking walk breaks. In fact, slowing down can actually build strength and endurance to benefit your running.

Keep a training log.

Mix in cross training to supplement your running..

Set small, achievable goals. Break down your aspirations into daily, weekly, and monthly goals

Remember that you are a runner.Whenever you’re in doubt, remember these wise words from our Chief Running Officer (and Mayor of Running) Bart Yasso:

“I often hear someone say I'm not a real runner. We are all runners, some just run faster than others. I never met a fake runner."

RECIPE CORNER

Baked Granola Apples

Ingredients 2 large crisp apples, such as Gala, halved and cored 2 tablespoons chopped dried tart cherries 1 tablespoon packed light brown sugar ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon ⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg 4 teaspoons butter ½ cup granola

Instructions In a microwavable dish, arrange the apple halves cut side up.

Top each apple half evenly with the tart cherries and brown sugar. Sprinkle with the cin-namon and nutmeg. Dot evenly with the butter.

Cover the apples with a microwavable dome lid or microwave-safe plastic wrap. Micro-wave on high for about 4 minutes, or until the apples are tender.

Transfer the apples to serving bowls and sprinkle each apple half evenly with the grano-la. Drizzle any juices remaining in the cooking dish over the top. Serves 4.

Zoomers is an organization that “runs” on volunteers. We ask our members to give back to

our club so that we can continue to give back to our community. Volunteering is a gift to

our community. Just as your Zoomers membership provides discounts and other benefits,

volunteering can pay off too! If you volunteer at four (4) Zoomers-owned event, Zoomers

adult race, tri series or Kids race series or race that Zoomers has been requested to provide

volunteers, you will receive a 1-year long individual membership (6 events for a 1 year family

membership up to 4 members). In addition, if you refer a business to become a sponsor, you

will receive credit for 1 event. DON’T FORGET, volunteering is also a requirement for our

Zoomers Scholarship.

ZOOMERS MONTHLY BUSINESS MEETINGS

Do you want to be involved in what is happening in your club? Please join us on the first

Wednesday of each month for the Zoomers Business Meeting. It is currently being held at

the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce at 6:30 pm.

At these meetings, we discuss what is happening in the club, what past races were like

and what races we have coming up. You will learn how it all works behind the scenes and

also be able to voice your opinions, concerns or maybe you have an idea for something

new?

Come join us and see what it’s like.
