BELL RINGER
Read the questions and all the answer options.
Read the passage carefully. You will answer numbers 43-46. Early
finishers should read quietly. Answer on your sheet of paper.
NUMBER 43
The Woman’s Land Army, dressed in bloomer uniforms and armed with such slogans as “The Woman with the Hoe Must Defend the Man with the Musket,”was dispatched to assist farmers in processing crops.
A. No ChangeB. Musket, “which was then dispatchedC. Musket,” and it was dispatchedD.Musket,” and it got dispatched
ANSWER A
The material between the comma is an adjective phrase. The other choices destroy the logic.
NUMBER 44
Women performed ably during the war and laid the foundation for more specialized jobs, increased wages, better working conditions, and a more competitive job status in the labor market.
F. No ChangeG. the foundation was laidH. the foundation was lainJ. laying the foundation
ANSWER F
The original is correct as written. The others destroy the parallelism of the sentence. G and H use the passive voice and are not parallel to performed. J is the participle and not parallel to performed.
NUMBER 45
Answer C The most logical sequence is 1, 3, 2, and 4.
1 is clearly the best choice for the introduction because 2 and 3 can’t be the first paragraph due to the order. 2 needs to follow 3 because of the contrast that 2 has with 3. The reader needs the information of 3 to understand the contrast of 2. 4 seems to be a conclusion.
NUMBER 46
Answer F
The slogan is appropriate because examples are helpful and enable the reader to understand a general point in a more concrete fashion.
