S 9 , 2018 23 S O T

With Labor Day behind us (and the traditional end of summer vacations), we settle back into the routine of work, school and parish life. I think this is a good time to remind all of us some liturgical guidelines regarding the Mass. Today, just a few basics:

Try to get to Mass before it starts in order to pray and become recollected in your heart.

Warmly welcome one another but keep small talk to a minimum so people can have a chance to pray and prepare for Mass.

Sing the hymns! Listen to the readings! Respond when appropriate! Try to be fully present to what is happening during the entire Mass.

Don’t slam the kneelers.

Move into the pew if latecomers arrive. I know you got there first but it really is an act of kindness.

After Mass, please take any conversation into the vestibule or outside. Often people are praying or a Baptism is going to take place and silence is important. (And, yes, I need to remember this one too!)

Be welcoming of visitors and be patient with your priests ( we each have gifts but we don’t have ALL of them!)

Next week we will go into a little more detail about other parts of the Mass!

ALTAR FLOWERS : Main Altar: In celebration of the marriage of Robert Hopstetter and Sharon Blake.

Blessed Mother: In memory of Tony Pala from wife Jane.

Saint Joseph: In loving memory of our parents Robert & Alma Hopstetter and Ed & Frances Landis from Bob & Sharon Hopstetter Contact Us - Request Altar Flowers

PARISH PRAYER INTENTIONS : The following parishioners or family members are ill and have recently been added to our parish prayer list. Please remember them, and all the sick of our parish, in your prayers: Frank Bolduc, Joan Spandra, Lovalerie King.

*Notice of Change: Due to the number of requests being received for the parish prayer list, we will only be posting new requests in this section of the bulletin. Names will still be listed for a six week time period. A full listing of our Parish Prayer Intentions can be found in the parish office or on our website. Parish - Prayer Intentions

Our Living Our Faith ministry will collect new/unused Christmas and all-occasion cards (with envelopes) and 2019 wall calendars. As in past years, your donations will be passed along to inmates so they can maintain contact with family members who also suffer during their separation. While these items may be considered “throwaways” to most of us, they are valued greatly by those who live in drab surroundings separated from family and friends. They can bring hope and a new commitment of change to those who receive them. And you will have newfound storage space with the peace of knowing you have helped others!

Please begin a collection at home so you will be ready to bring them to church on the weekend of our 4th Annual Caring Cards & Calendars Collection on October 13 & 14. Please do not bring these items before the collection date as we unfortunately do not have storage space to accept these items year round. We are not able to use cards that religious orders or monasteries send if it states that a donation has been made.

Volunteers are needed to assist with collection on October 13 & 14 as well as for sorting donated items on October 15 & 16. Assistance is welcomed any of these days. More details will follow in the coming weeks.

PARISH MISSION TRIP PROJECT: The Fall Parish Mission Trip to the Father Beiting Appalachian Mission Center in Louisa, Kentucky is scheduled for October 14th. We have been asked to help a family who is trying to move their mother, who lives in another county, to their property near Louisa. The Husband is a coal miner and his wife is a nurse who works part time because of their son’s medical issues (which has left them with considerable debt). They have her new home (they call it a cabin) partially completed, but need help to get the drywall and finishing work completed.

Our parish volunteers travel twice a year to Louisa, KY and pay their own expenses and provide the tools necessary to complete whatever we are asked to do. If you wish to help with our fall project, please contact Jan & Larry Duckart or visit the parish ministry page for information about how you can make a donation to the project.
