PASTOR´S MESSAGE

When Jesus instituted the Eucharist during the Last Supper, He wanted to insurethat He would be with us to strengthen and enliven us until the end of time.He took the sacred elements of bread and wine, which were part of the

Passover Meal and gave them a new significance and reality. The bread and wine would not only symbolize the miraculous feeding of the Hebrew people in the desert but now they would symbolize and become His saving presence. “This is my Body given up for you, This is my Bloodpoured out for you, Do this in remembrance of me”. Jesus Christ, Our Risen Lord is truly present tous in the totality of His being and in such a way as to be our saving and sanctifying food each timethat we gather as His Body during the Mass.

How could we ever imagine or be prepared for such a visitation by the power of God mademanifest in the presence of His Beloved Son? How could we ever imagine the gift of the Holy Spirit that comes down upon the bread and wine to effect their transformation? Only because Our Lord wills and makes possible this miraculous presence, can we approach and receive this sacred food without fear. This miracle is why we spend time in adoration of the Divine Presence and find in our chapelsuch prayerful unity with the Presence of Christ in our tabernacle.

The bread and wine transformed by the will of Christ and the ministry of the priest is God’s way of transforming us, too. When we arereally present and receptive in mind, body and spirit at Mass, we become more perfectly the Body of Christ and continue His presence forthe “salvation of the many”. Reverencing and receiving the real presence of the Lord in the Eucharist is our highest form of worship andthe deepest experience possible of what it means for us to be “a new creation in Christ”. As this “new creation” we continue His missionand dedicate our lives to the furtherance of His Father’s Kingdom.

Jesus often used the image of the vine and the branches to describe the type of unity achieved when we are united with Him in the reception of Holy Communion. Just as a branch needs to be fed by the life of the vine, so do we need to be fed by the life of our RisenLord. In the vocabulary of the spiritual life, the transformation accomplished through the reception of Holy Communion is often called “divinization” because our human nature is transformed so radically by the grace of God at work in Christ. Receiving Holy Communion frequently, if not daily, is our surest way of enjoying in this life the union with God we will enjoy in heaven.

May God bless us all with a deeper experience of Jesus Christ’s transforming and sanctifying presence in the Holy Eucharist and leadus to joy and thanksgiving.

FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF LITURGICAL MUSIC MINISTRY

ELECTING TO ACT ON THE CORPORAL WORKS OF MERCY AS A MINISTRY

IN AS MUCH AS WE COME TO MASS TO PRAY TWICE WITH OUR VOICES IN SONG AND TO LEAD THE

CONGREGATION IN PRAYING TWICE WE FELT AS A MINISTRY THAT WAS NOT ENOUGH.

We reverted to the Works of Mercy or Acts of Mercy commonly attributed to the Roman Catholic Church as acts of penance and charity.Concentrating on the Corporal Works of Mercy, which covers the material needs of others, we decided to help feed the hungry. Thethought of a child going to bed hungry was a powerful motivator for us and we had no choice but to answer the call for food for the

needy. We then began to donate our own money to the cause while also reaching out to local grocery stores for help. As you can seeabove, we were able to contribute 200 lbs. of rice, hearty soups, pasta, sauces, peanut butter, vegetables, macaroni & cheese and

more to our St. Joan of Arc Food Bank.

More important than anything or anyone else Jesus, Himself, insists on the need to observe the Corporal works of Mercy:

Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you fromthe foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and youwelcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.’ Then the righteous will an-swer Him and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you astranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?’ And the King will

say to them in reply, “Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.”MATTHEW 25:34-40

We found also, that we could accomplish much more as a unified group than as individuals. Helping to feed the hungry is a massivejob and we extend an invitation to any and all who would take up this challenge and help us fill the shelves to the rafters in an effort

to eliminate as much hunger as we can right here at home.

Ministerio Hispano

sacramentos. Gracias.
