Since 1978, WUSC Local Committees have sponsored student refugees to resettle in Canada! They arrive as permanent residents and pursue their higher education at safe and supportive Canadian universities, CEGEPs, and colleges. The SRP is the only program of its kind to combine resettlement with post-secondary education. This unique sponsorship model includes vital social, academic, and financial support for at least 12 months upon arrival in Canada.
#SRPCHANGESLIVESThe SRP changes lives of refugee youth and the students in Canada involved in this unique youth-to-youth sponsorship program. SRP students continue their education in Canada and students in Canada learn about forced migration and develop valuable leadership and cross-cultural skills as they support these newcomer students on their campus. WUSC provides training and support to Local Committees, facilitates overseas selection, and prepares SRP students for immigration.
Managing expectations of household work and family care, displaced and conflict-affected girls often miss classes or drop out of school altogether. Education is critical for a brighter future. It can enable girls and women to overcome the many barriers they face in their day-to-day lives. Let’s #ShineALight on refugee girls’ access to education and help them reach their full potential!
PUT A SPOTLIGHT ON GIRLS’ ACCESS TO EDUCATION AND YOUNG WOMEN’S LEADERSHIPLocal Committees help raise funds so we can continue with our goal of supporting displaced and conflict-affected girls to pursue quality education. LCs also play an important role in raising awareness about the obstacles girls around the world face in accessing education, and in advocating for girls to be admitted to their campus as SRP students.
ONE WORLD We live in an interconnected world, but not all of us are affected on the same level by increasingly urgent economic, social, political and environmental challenges our world faces. Generally, the most vulnerable portion of the population is disproportionately affected by these challenges, and we, as global citizens, do not always understand the impacts of our own individual consumption choices. As consumers in a global economy, we are in a unique position to drive global changes through our individual and collective choices!
PUT YOUR CONSUMPTION HABITS TO GOOD USE!WUSC Local Committees have taken inspiring initiative to promote ethical consumption choices in their communities and on their campuses for nearly a decade. While remembering that every individual consumption choice we make is important, let’s take it to the next level by engaging academic and business experts, youth leaders and partners to examine what it means to consume ethically, but also understand the glocal impacts of our choices!
OVERSEAS OPPORTUNITIES Uniterra overseas opportunities offer Canadians studying or recently graduated from Canadian universities, CEGEPs, and colleges the opportunity to volunteer overseas through the Uniterra program, and contribute to sustainable development projects with partner organizations across Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
Uniterra volunteers are provided with a tangible learning experience as they support organizations in developing countries. Qualified students work overseas for 3 to 12 months where they can apply theoretical concepts to real work environments.

UNITERRA SYMPOSIA SERIES CONSUMING ETHICALLY: THE GLOBAL IMPACTS OF OUR CHOICESWe are all members of a global economy in the international market system, but we don’t always think about how our consumption choices are connected to the One World we live in as global citizens. Our actions and consumption choices can have a positive or negative impact on the most vulnerable people of our interconnected world without most of us even knowing about it.
BRINGING THE REST OF CANADA INTO THE DISCUSSIONWhat does ethical consumption mean? What are the actual impacts of our consumptions habits? What role can we play? Bring together international development or trade experts, young entrepreneurs, leaders and local organizations to discuss these questions and better understand the implications behind ethical consumption and its various approaches.
JOIN US IN OTTAWA JANUARY 19-21, 2018!
The International forum is an annual event organized by WUSC and CECI that gives you the opportunity to connect with over 600 students, academics, professionals, representatives of governments, civil society, and social movements to learn about and discuss current shifts in international cooperation. Together, we will explore their implications for inclusive global development.
Join us in Ottawa this January for two days of panels, workshops, discussion, and exchange. Our goal is to spur debate and search for innovations that transcend borders and boundaries.
WUSC’s Annual General Assembly is also held during this time, giving you the opportunity to learn about WUSC’s governance and even run for a position on our Board of Directors.
The Forum is not only an opportunity to learn about international development issues, but also for Local Committee members and SRP students to participate in important WUSC training sessions, like the national SRP training and consultation for SRP students! Also, we will announce the winners of the Local Committee of the Year award and Campus Awards.
