Term 2 Week 10 Respect Responsibility Co-Operaon We Speak Respectfully! Leonie Pearson We are almost at the end of an extraordinary se- mester. I would like to congratulate our students, community members and staff for the way they have accepted and adapted to the changes brought about by COVID-19. There is an ever- present risk of the virus and we need to closely follow health guidelines in all we do at school. The remainder of 2020 and possibly into the fu- ture will continue to present us with challenges. Next term, in Week 2, we will be sending home student reports. They will be very different from those you have received in the past. In line with the department’s guidelines, teachers will report on English and mathematics, and make a gen- eral comment relating to other areas of learning. It is felt that due to the extended period of time without face to face teaching, it is not possible to fairly assess students and provide accurate grades. We expect that the end of year report will be in the traditional style and give a more accu- rate grade to students’ achievements. Thank you again for your support. Speaking respectfully to other people is about using your empathy to be considerate of others. It is about saying things clearly so that you are under- stood well. Speaking respectfully also involves thinking before you speak, in order to put aside any of your own hostilities, annoyances and gripes that can cause tension or upset when holding a conversation or discussion.
