Writing
Writing in Grade Four
In Year Four, students focus on using a variety of sentences with accurate punctuation including speech marks to indicate dialogue. The students are using accurate links to improve their cohesion. They edit their work by rearranging word and word groups to improve meaning.
This term, the students are writing recounts from the point of view of a convict child in the First Fleet and analysing the language features used by an author to develop the main character in a text.
Writing goals are created by the teachers and are written in different levels. Students are allocated their goals depending on their specific needs.
The goals for term three are about developing sentence structure and accurately punctuating writing.
Goals:
Group 1: My sentences differ in length, structure and beginnings. I have written at least 4 complex sentences with accurate punctuation.
Group 2: My simple and compound sentences are accurately punctuated. I have written 2 complex sentences.
Group 3: My simple and compound sentences are correct. My meaning is clear.
Each of these goals has its own goal card (see example below). The goal card has the goal and then some areas for feedback. The feedback areas are a check for the students to remind them what they would need to do to achieve that goal. These goal cards are attached to the students’ writing. The goal card allows the teacher to provide specific feedback to the student about their progress toward their goal.
Below is an example of a Year Four student’s writing that demonstrates the use of their goal card:
Goal: My simple and compound sentences are correct. My meaning is clear.
Feedback label text:
Mark the end of each sentence.
Highlight your capital letters.
Circle your sentence punctuation.
Highlight the conjunction (FANBOYS) used in your compound sentences?

School Safety Medication Volunteers
Attention Parents
Parents are not to be driving into the school via the Quoin Street entrance or the Boles Street entrance to drop off or pick up students.
This is reserved only for Students with Disabilities who have arrangements already put in place or sometimes students with a major injury requiring drop off which has been approved by the Principal.
No other vehicles are to drive into the school as student safety is compromised.
Thank you.
Parents/caregivers are reminded that all medication given to students at school must be prescribed by a doctor, a medication form must be completed and medication stored at reception where it will be administered to students. Parents are asked to ensure a CURRENT green medical authorisation form is completed.
EPIPENS
Please make sure you have replaced any Epipens that may be out of date. These are stored at the office (unless alternative arrangements have been made). A new green form must also be completed for 2017, at the office. Please update any action plans and contact details at the office if needed.
Any parents wanting to volunteer in their child/ren’s classroom or Tuckshop must come down to the office and fill in a new Volunteers form for the 2017 Year. All Volunteers must sign in at the office and collect a lanyard to be worn while in the school grounds.
Update of Details
We have noticed quite a large amount of phone numbers that we cannot make contact with as the phone number has been disconnected. Please make sure that all contact numbers including emergency contacts are up to date. Not only is this a duty of care for us if something happens to your child, but also we have
no alternative than ring the police.
