He has a photography obsession and has travelled the globe fulfilling his dream Phil's 'Up your Photography' DPI lecture covers topics not found in most photo lectures from the science of our vision to understanding resolution and lens optics, the psychology of perspective and the odd BBC Natural History Unit war story. David is an award-winning photographer with a distinct style of image which packs a punch and emphasises the subject. After leaving full-time employment in 2015 he joined a local camera club and has never looked back: "The club structure in the UK is a wonderful resource for anyone looking to develop their photography - the help and encouragement I've received has been outstanding." He unashamedly describes himself as a competition photographer and his images are produced with the necessary impact needed to create an immediate impression with judges - this has brought him success in numerous national and international competitions. However, his greatest love is underwater photography and it's a passion that's taken him all around the world photographing the amazing creatures that swim in our oceans.

During the meeting Mr Collingbourne of Rootes Photographic Society and Mr Swain of Small Heath & District Photographic Society jointly presented the Glenn-Anderson Memorial Trophy, which had been donated by these two Societies. The President, Alex Watson had very great pleasure in accepting the trophy on behalf of the Federation, which would be seen as a lasting memory to someone who had done so much in the furtherance of amateur photography within the Midlands.
The President went on to explain to the members present that at the previous Council Meeting held on Saturday 6th November 1954, the Competition Secretary, G.W. Newey had tabled a letter from the Hon. Secretary of Rootes Social & Athletic Club Photographic Section, asking if the Federation would accept a trophy in memory of C.E. Glenn-Anderson, to be subscribed by Rootes and Small Heath Photographic Society. The President, J.E.J. Whittaker felt that the Council would be happy to accept such a trophy and G.W. Newey suggested that there was no plaque for Colour Transparencies similar to the Print Plaque, the only award being the David Jewsbury Rose Bowl, which was an individual award. The Council agreed that the Secretary should write the Hon. Secretary of Rootes S & A Club PS indicating the grateful acceptance by the Federation and suggesting that the Trophy would become a Society Award for Colour Slides and presented annually to the Society with the highest average from the stipulated entry for the Portfolio Competition, which would start in 1955.
After the meeting everyone had the opportunity to view the trophy before enjoying the afternoon cream tea provided by the host society and at the same time having a chat with members from other clubs catching up with photographic news and equipment.

Earl Shilton Camera Club Summer Exhibition24 August - 6 September 2020
Earl Shilton Camera Club is excited to announce its annual Summer Exhibition. This year the exhibition, which showcases the variety and high quality of images by members of this highly successful and popular local club, will be hosted Online by the Hinckley Atkins Gallery at https://www.atkinsbuilding.co.uk/gallery/exhibition from 24 August - 6 September.
In previous years the club has welcomed new members who have been inspired by the exciting and varied pictures on dis-play. Some of the new members have been complete beginners while others have dusted off cameras and equipment that they haven’t touched for many years. Some are already proficient photographers wanting to meet like minded enthusiasts. Whatever your ability and interests you can be assured of a warm welcome from this enthusiastic group of mostly amateur photographers who will be pleased to help you develop your enthusiasm for photography.
It has never been easier to enjoy photography. Whether you like wildlife, urban landscapes, portraits or want to add something to your holiday pictures or family days out the camera on your mobile phone is a great starting point. Many club members enter images taken on their phones into competitions and do extremely well. We all know from experience that the best camera in the world isn’t the one at home in a bag, it’s the one you have with you at the time to capture that one off special moment.
The weekly Wednesday evening meetings are held in Earl Shilton and include workshops, competitions, speakers and of course friendly chat, advice and support about all things photographic.
Visit the Summer Exhibition on line at https://www.atkinsbuilding.co.uk/gallery/exhibition and think about joining us on Wednesday evenings. Much more information can be found on the club Website or facebook page.
