continue to ordination to the permanent diaconate, please notify Deacon Rob Ward, Director of For-

mation, Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston at 281-723-1910 or via email at

[email protected]. Please keep Eduardo and his wife Irma in your prayers as he is called to

the Rite of Candidacy. May he always remain faithful to the vocation to which he is called. This announcement is in compliance with Canon 1051:2

he word “advent” means “coming” or “presence.” In the an-cient world it indicated the visit of the king or emperor to a province; in the language of Christianity it refers to the com-ing of God, to his presence in the world; a mystery that in-volves the entire cosmos and all of history, but that knows

two culminating moments: the first and second coming of Jesus Christ. The first is precisely the Incarnation; the second his glorious return at the end of time. These two moments that are chronologically distant – and it is not given to us to know how distant – touch each other in their depths, because with his death and resurrection Jesus has already real-ized that transformation of man and the cosmos that is the final goal of creation. But before the end, it is necessary that the Gospel be preached to all nations, Jesus says in the Gospel of St. Mark (cf. Mark 13:10). The Lord’s coming continues, the world must be penetrated by his pres-ence. Our collaboration is required in this permanent coming of the Lord in the proclamation of the Gospel; and the Church, which is like the Bride to be, the Betrothed of the crucified and risen Lamb of God (cf. Apoca-lypse 21:9), in communion with her Lord collaborates in this coming of the Lord in which his glorious return already begins. In the midst of the upheavals of the world, or in the deserts of indiffer-ence and materialism, Christians welcome the salvation that comes from God and bear witness to it with a different way of living, like a city set on a hill. “In those days,” the prophet Jeremiah announces, “Jerusalem will live in peace and be called ‘the Lord our justice’” (33:16). The community of believers is a sign of God, of his justice, which is already present and active in history but is not yet fully realized, and because of this is always awaited, invoked, sought with patience and courage. The Virgin Mary perfectly incarnates the spirit of Advent; this spirit is one of listening to God, of profound desire to do his will, of joyous ser-vice to our neighbor. Let ourselves be guided by her, so that the God who comes does not find us closed and distracted, but can, in each one of us, extend a part of his kingdom of love, of justice and of peace.

-Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI (2012)

RITO DE INICIACION CRISTIANA PARA ADULTOS (RICA)

R A a palabra «adviento» significa «llegada» o «presencia».

We need your help! Saint Theresa’s asks you to con-sider a wonderful and re-warding way to share your time and gifts. Our parish needs Extraordi-nary Ministers of Holy Com-munion as we serve 3 hospi-tals and 10 assisted living facilities. The patients and residents are unable to join us for Mass, so WE go to

THEM. Each week volunteers visit these facilities, bringing the Eucharist and a copy of our bulletin to each small Catholic population. We need more vol-unteers. We need you! Requirements: Be a practicing Catholic, baptized & confirmed. Time involved: Approximately one hour twice a month; weekend or weekday. Training: Will be conducted as you can join our coordinator as she conducts a Communion Service at one of our facilities. You will see first-hand how to provide this important service, ask questions, and "shadow" one of our volunteers until you feel confi-dent to take on this ministry solo. (You and a part-ner can do this together if you prefer.) Goal: It is our goal to have enough volunteers as-signed to each facility so that the schedule can be spread out and no one is expected to do more than he/she can comfortably cover. We need substitutes as well, so if you can't commit to a regular schedule, please receive the training so you can assist when we need someone to cover. If everyone does some-thing, no one has to do everything. Please call or text Kate Barton at (281) 250-1347 with any questions you may have or to set up a time to join her at a Communion Service. (Her number is also in the bulletin under Pastoral Care).

Thank you!

PRAYER OF SPOUSES FOR EACH OTHER

Lord Jesus, grant that my spouse and I may have a true and understanding love for each other. Grant that we

may both be filled with faith and trust. Give us the grace to live with each other in peace and harmony. May we always bear with one another’s weaknesses and grow from each oth-er’s strengths. Help us to forgive one another’s failings and grant us patience, kindness, cheer-fullness and the spirit of

placing the well-being of one another ahead of self. May the love that brought us together grow and mature with each

passing year. Bring us both ever closer to You through our love for each other. Let our love grow to perfection, for

You live and reign with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

SACRED LINENS

Watch this space for more Ministry Spotlights. If you would like to learn more about or get in-volved in any of our ministries, contact us via the website (sugarlandcatholic.com) or by phone. Feel free to contact the ministry coordinator directly. We would love to hear from you!

“I am the living bread which came down from

heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for

ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh… He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last

day” (John 6:35, 51, 54). Sacred Linens are pieces of cloth which are prescribed for use at each celebration of the Holy Mass and are used at the Altar, or nearby, by the priest-celebrant. Because they are come in contact with the Eucharist, the linens carry small amounts of the Sacred Species that need to be handled very carefully with love and rever-ence. In this beautiful ministry, we are able to take care of the linens that were touching the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. This is a detailed and meticulous ser-vice that you can do for our Lord, and, with Mary’s help, you too can share in the responsibility of caring for Jesus’ linens. Who can be a volunteer in this ministry? Any active Catholic who, because of their firm belief that Jesus is Present at

the Sacrifice of the Altar, is able to commit to a regular schedule of linen care and is able to follow the guidelines and tips prescribed for when the linens are in their custody. We are a blessed group of a volunteers that are divided in two groups; each takes a turn of responsibility once every five or six weeks—during the week or weekend. By being a part of this ministry, you can show your gratitude and love to our Lord. Share your time with the Virgin Mary praying, so that your faith may grow by preparing and fixing the articles that will be used at the Ta-ble of the Lord when He comes.

If you would like more information or have any questions, please contact Maria Elena Rico at

Almighty and merciful God, may no earthly undertaking hinder those who set out in haste to meet your Son,

but may our learning of heavenly wisdom gain us admittance to his company.
