2018 Lenten Mission Fr. Hugh Gillespie, SMM Monday, March 12 — Wednesday,
March 14 7:00 PM in the Church
Fr. Hugh Gillespie SMM, is a Roman
Catholic Priest and Missionary belonging to the Company of Mary, the religious community founded by St. Louis de
Montfort himself. He is the managing editor for Montfort Publications and an itinerant mission preacher and retreat master. Fr. Hugh is the author of the
popular book Preparation for Consecra-tion to Jesus through Mary According to
St. Louis De Montfort. St. Louis de Montfort burned with a deep and genuine vocational zeal for the renew-
al of the Church through the vigorous proclamation of the Gospel. For Fr. de
Montfort the secret of effective proclama-tion of the Gospel and the secret of au-thentic living of the Gospel are one and the same, and the name of this secret is
Mary. He was so convinced of this that he devoted all of the energy of his vocational life to living and proclaiming a true devo-tion to Our Lady as the most powerful and direct means of becoming fully mature in
the Spirit of Jesus Christ. To share this mission, to live this spirituality and to con-tinue this work he founded the Company of Mary. As a member of this Company, Fr. Hugh Gilespie will share with us his
insights and those of St. Louis de Montfort so that we can more effectively love Jesus
with the Heart of Mary.

Discovering Love with Clarity
Lent is a good time to explore the Catholic faith.
If you are seventeen years of age or older and are: unbaptized, baptized in another faith community, or a baptized Catholic who has never received your First Holy Communion, then the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is for you!
The next Inquiry Gathering will be
Wednesday, March 14, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Family Life
Center. You may begin the process at any time during the year. Free babysit-ting is available upon request. Bring your
spouse or friend, if you’d like. These informal gatherings are structured to
answer your questions about the Catholic Church. The RCIA team is ready to walk
your journey of faith with you.
Contact Lynda Knoche at 281-450-1400 or by e-mail: [email protected].
If you, your child or someone you know is between the ages of seven and sixteen, not baptized or baptized in another faith com-munity, we have an RCIA process suited to your age group. Inquiry sessions are every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Please
schedule an appointment with Paul Stoes-sel via phone (281-494-1156) or e-mail
([email protected]) prior to attending your first session.
Q: Why are the elect presented with the Creed and the Lord’s Prayer?
A: Now that the elect have finished their initial formation and draw closer to the waters of Baptism, the Church finds them ready to receive and pray with the Creed and the Lord’s Prayer. During the Third Week of Lent, the assembly “hands over” the Creed to the elect. The elect will “give back” or recite the Creed on Holy Saturday as part of the preparation rites. During the Fifth Week of Lent, the elect are given the Lord’s Prayer, which will be-come their prayer as Christians These presen-tations entrust to the elect the discipline of faith and prayer. From the time of Barnabas escorting Saul to the apostles (Acts 9:26-27), Christians have given witness for those seeking
baptism or reception into the full communion of the Catholic Church. Today, RCIA sponsors, team and community members
give testimony concerning readiness for initiation. Carmen’s journey began when she was longing for love and peace in her life. She first began the RCIA process in 2012, but the obstacles seemed too great for her to continue, so she stopped coming for a time. Yet, even in her most chaotic moments, Carmen knew there was a loving
God calling her to something more. In 2015, Carmen returned to the process, more determined than ever. This is something Carmen really wanted as she felt lost for so long. This time, she wanted to “do it right,” as she kept saying. Her goal was to be open, soaking in God’s love. She wants her family to live like Mary and Joseph lived in Nazareth, in peace and harmony, no matter the situation. Carmen took advantage of each session. She openly shared her journey with her fellow catechumens and candidates. She listened to them share their insights and grew to have respect for and trust of them. If she had questions about any doctrine, she would ask members of the team and she would research the topic. She grew close to her sponsor, Chava Buse. Now, they email and text almost daily. When our parish celebrated the Feast of St. Theresa, Carmen found her patron saint. Carmen has since read about Therese and works to practice her Little Way. She spends time daily in meditation with the wisdom of St. Therese. She says she is calmer and has no more anxiety attacks. Carmen wants to be grateful for all that God has given her. Carmen’s journey has affected her husband and children. Her boys are in CCE and asking lots of questions as they prepare for their First Communion. They are open to learning like their mother. Carmen’s husband is growing in his faith as well. They are looking forward to being married in the Church so Tony can receive the sacraments and Carmen can be baptized and confirmed. Carmen has found so much love and acceptance in our parish community. She wants to volunteer and be of help to spread what she has received to others.
