The Messenger 2018 First United Methodist Church in Niles ...growing together in our knowledge, love, and service of God Dear friends~ Over the past 5 weeks, we have explored what it means to embrace the "Rule of Christ." We started at the point of our words and the conversations in which we participate. {Holy Communication} We then reflected upon our positions in the many different situations in which we find ourselves. {Personal Reflection} Then we followed Matthew 18:15-17a, and Matthew 18:20. We found in the words of scripture wisdom for responding to difficult situations of conflict both in our church life and in principles which can be used in our personal lives. In these words of wisdom, we find if we start with one on one conversations with those whom we have differences, often we find new solutions. If this step fails, then we are challenged to get some objective help. A third party can help add clarity and insight to both parties. There are times when even a third party's presence does not bring resolution. When this occurs, we are told to take it to the church ~ someone who has skill in conflict resolution and able to assist to resolve the issue. There are some issues which just cannot be resolved. When this happens, we are all challenged to remember our mission. This mission for the church is to go into the world to make disciples of all nations ~ “give the people Jesus”. In our personal lives, issues can range from family conflicts to issues with our co-workers, colleagues and so on. In each of these situations, the main thing is the main thing, what is best for the family and what is best for the common good in our work This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY-NC-ND

First United Methodist Church in Niles...growing together in our knowledge, love, and service of GodDear friends~

Over the past 5 weeks, we have explored what it means to embrace the "Rule of Christ."  We started at the point of our words and the conversations in which we participate. In each of these situations, the main thing is the main thing, what is best for the family and what is best for the common good in our work environment.   God's promise to each of us is this, "I will be with you till the end of time."

As Niles First United Methodist Church, we will be sharing in the "Rule of Christ."  Within this newsletter, you will find a “Concern Summary” sheet with which we will be addressing conflicts within the church.  If there are any questions concerning this concept introduced through scripture and encouraged by Bishop Malone, please contact the church office and ask to speak with me.

Total $ 9,924.00 Income (Tithes and offerings) $ 8,695.00 Balance -- $ 1,229.00

We would like to thank the Pastor and church members for their prayers while my brother, Leonard, was ill and their sympathies upon his passing. Church family is so very helpful at times like this. Joyce and Joe Lukz

Well, what can we say but a HUGE THANK YOU!!!!  Thank you to all who volunteered, donated, made desserts and prayed over our Community Meals, the need is such a demand for people who are hungry in our community.  In the month of September, we fed over 685 people; and, each time they thanked us and were so grateful for having a place to come to have fellowship, great food and as many of them said, to be treated like family.   The Bread of Life that is headed by Jackie Moyer has had a great impact also on them. This is a great way to keep in contact with them and to pray with them.  We will be hosting Community Meals again in December and ask for your support to keep this ministry going.  Also, thank you to Sam and Patrice who cooked the meals to feed the minds and souls of everyone.  God Bless

ATTENTION:   Sunday School Student and Parents

On Sunday, December 9th, we are having a Christmas party for our Sunday School Students.  It will be held after church until around 2:30 PM.  We will eat and have lots of fun activities. While we are celebrating, parents will have the opportunity to go Christmas shopping or maybe even have a nice quiet dinner together. Please reserve the date!

~~the Emmaus walk “Is an experience of Christian spiritual renewal and information that begins with a three-day short course in Christianity? It is an opportunity to meet Jesus Christ in a new way as God’s grace and love is revealed to you through other believers.”~~Thursday evening, 4 October through Sunday, 7 October, Phyllis Difford and I (Carol Rathburn) had the privilege to attend an “Emmaus Walk” event at Camp Asbury in Hiram, Ohio. It was a very inspiring and renewing time together with fellow believers. We sang (what a joy that was!!); attended talks; shared in small groups; had worship together; shared Holy Communion; and, truly felt the presence of God with us in our 72-hour experience. This experience truly empowers us to be the hands and feet of Christ as we walk our life journey with him; and, to desire to renew the existing church. May

we all grow in our faith and become willing and joyful servants of God. ~~Carol Rathburn

This 4 – 7 October 2018, Carol Rathburn and I attended the Western Reserve Emmaus Walk #52 at Camp Asbury.  This was quite an experience. Intellectually, emotionally and physically.  To see how other women have relied on their faith to overcome horrific and some not as horrific things just brings us together even more as believers. And, to see what that looks like biblically is uplifting and encouraging.  To meet and make so many new friends is exciting.  I must say some of the surprises they have for you are off the hook.  To see the Holy Spirit at work is a blessing above all things.  Although you are exhausted physically and emotionally, I would recommend all whom have never gone to go. It is truly amazing and something to cherish. Side note, however, see me before you go for sleeping tips!!!!!   Phyllis Difford
