Foreword-1/(Foreword-2 blank)

FOREWORD

This manual contains information on hardware and equipment used in Fuel and Cargo Connected Replenishmentand in Vertical Replenishment. This manual consists of four parts:

Part 1 — Common UNREP EquipmentPart 2 — Underway Replenishment — FuelPart 3 — Solid Cargo Connected Replenishment (CONREP)Part 4 — Vertical Replenishment (VERTREP)

Underway Replenishment (UNREP) of surface ships extends the endurance of deployed fleet forces by supplyingessential logistic items such as fuel, weapons, stores and provisions to those forces. The primary aim of UNREP isthe safe delivery of maximum cargo in minimum time allowing minimum diversion of the supported force from itsassigned mission.

UNREP is currently accomplished by connected and non-connected methods. With the connected replenishment(CONREP) method cargo or personnel are transferred on wire or fiber rope rigs connecting the ships as they steamside by side. Liquid cargo (fuel) can be transferred only by CONREP methods using the Fuel-StandardReplenishment Alongside Method (Fuel-STREAM), addressed in Part 2. Solid cargo can be transferred byCONREP using Missile/Cargo STREAM and conventional methods or by Vertical Replenishment (VERTREP)which employs a helicopter. CONREP and VERTREP are covered in Parts 3 and 4, respectively. Equipmentcommon to Liquid and Solid Cargo CONREP and to VERTREP are covered in Part 1.

The purpose of the Underway Replenishment Hardware and Equipment Manual is to provide a catalog of the looseequipment and certain components installed in UNREP systems that are used to transfer solid cargo and bulkfluids. The information provided is intended for use by operating, planning, design and administrative personnel inthe fleet and at shore based or shipyard activities.

The Consolidated UNREP Equipment List (preceding Part 1) provides a category listing of equipment, tools, hardware, etc., contained in this manual. This list refers the user to the page where descriptive, functional and otherdata is provided.

Ships, training activities, supply points, depots, Naval Shipyards and Supervisors of Shipbuilding are requested toarrange for the maximum practical use and evaluation of NAVSEA technical manuals. All errors, omissions, discrepancies, and suggestions for improvement to NAVSEA technical manuals shall be reported to theCommanding Officer, Port Hueneme Division Naval Surface Warfare Center (Code 5E00), Port Hueneme, CA93043-4307 on NAVSEA Technical Manual Deficiency/Evaluation Report (TMDER), NAVSEA Form 4160/1.TMDERs maybe submitted via the World Wide Web at http://nsdsa.phdnswc.navy.mil/tmder/tmder.htm.In addition, a copy of NAVSEA Form 4160/1 is included at the end of this technical manual. All feedbackcomments shall be thoroughly investigated and originators will be advised of action resulting therefrom.

PART 1 — COMMON UNREP EQUIPMENTSECTION A — INTRODUCTION

DESCRIPTION OF PART 1Part 1 covers only those items of equipment used forboth Fueling and Solid Cargo CONREP, or SolidCargo CONREP and VERTREP, or all three. In thecase of Fueling/Solid Cargo equipment most itemsare used to pass the rigs or are hardware itemswhose use would not necessarily be restricted toUNREP. Items common to Solid Cargo CONREPand VERTREP are primarily equipment used forcargo handling. Items used with all three methodsfall into the communications and night lightingcategory.Part 1 contains two sections. Section A, theintroduction, describes the format and scope of Part1 and its relation to Parts 2, 3 and 4. Section B, the

equipment section, contains equipment sheets foreach item of common UNREP equipment. Eachequipment sheet contains a drawing or picture of theitem, a description of the item, and a briefdescription of its function, its National StockNumber (NSN), drawing number(s) and reference(s)where additional information can be found. Whereno NSN is assigned, manufacturers' part numbersare listed. As an aid to determine the completeequipment requirement for each UNREP method, cross reference lists are provided. Section B to Parts2 and 3 have a list of items common to Fueling andSolid Cargo CONREP shown in Part 1. Section B ofPart 4 has a list of VERTREP items common toSolid Cargo CONREP items.

S9570-AD-CAT-010 BLOCK

1-5

DESCRIPTIONBlocks for fiber rope are manufactured in varioustypes and sizes and are used in all alongsideunderway connected replenishment rigs. Thenumbers, types and sizes are dependent upon theindividual installation and rig.Blocks for use with fiber rope consist of a shell ofwood or steel with one or more metal sheaves, usually steel or bronze. Block size is usually statedin terms of approximate length of cheek (shell). Auseful thumb rule is that the size of the block ininches is three times the circumference of the manilarope and the sheave diameter is twice thiscircumference. Thus, a block for use with 3-inchmanila would be a 9-inch block and its sheavewould be 6 inches in diameter. The use of synthetic rope in general riggingapplications has led to the development of blocks, which are better suited to the characteristics ofsynthetic rope. These blocks are generally of thesame configuration but have sheaves of aluminumbronze or a material more compatible with the

synthetic rope. The sheave pins, straps, hooks, andother parts are strengthened as required toaccommodate the greater working capacities ofsynthetic rope.

BLOCK S9570-AD-CAT-010

1-6

DESCRIPTIONWire Rope Blocks of various types and sizes areused in the several transfer rigs for underwayconnected replenishment. The numbers, types andsizes are dependent upon the individual installation.Blocks are classified as standard or Navy type andnon-standard or commercial type. Blocksmanufactured for the Navy have stamped or cast onthe shell: USN, working load, proof test, and size ofrope to be used with the block.Blocks for use with wire rope are constructedprincipally of steel and are galvanized and/orpainted to minimize corrosion. Block size is statedin terms of the sheave diameter. Heavily stressedblocks are rated also by safe working load. Cargohoister blocks used in the Burton rig must haveroller bearings. For a given application the sheavediameter should be as large as practicalconsiderations permit in order to minimize thebending stress imposed on the wire

rope. A useful rule of thumb is that the minimumratio of the diameter of the sheave at the bottom ofthe score (tread diameter) to the diameter of the wirerope used, should be 14:1 for the 6 x 37 wire ropeused in UNREP rigs. Thus, for 3/4-inch wire, thesheave diameter should be not less than 10.5 inches.

FUNCTIONWire rope blocks are used as specified in the shipsrigging plans and as described in NWP 4-01.4 forUNREP rigs, primarily as fairleads for various wirelines which make up the rig.Commercial cargo hoister blocks sized for 3/4-inchwire rope and marked for 10 ton safe working loador more are suitable for Burton rigs and require100,000 lb test as shown in NAVSHIP Dwg. DESCRIPTIONThe Line Throwing Bolo consists of about tenounces of lead with rounded corners, well padded, and enclosed in rubber or leather. The bolo isattached to the end of a nylon shot line. A two-inchwooden toggle is secured to the line about four orfive feet from the weight.

FUNCTIONThe Line Throwing Bolo is used to pass a shot linebetween ships as the first step in passing amessenger to connect up alongside transfer rigs, Thebolo is hand-heaved from one ship to another.

Hand heaving requires a person to grasp the toggleand twirl the bolo (weight) overhead several times togain momentum. When the toggle is released, thebolo and shot line will, with proper aim and enoughforce, travel through the air to the other ship. TheLine Throwing Bolo is an alternative to a gun-firedshot line.

S9570-AD-CAT-010 ROPE

1-27

DESCRIPTIONFiber Ropes used by the Navy for underwayreplenishment includes natural fiber (manila) andsynthetic fiber (nylon, polyester or dacron, andpolypropylene). Manila rope can be readilydistinguished from the synthetic ropes by its dry, harsh feel. Manila rope is available in 3-strandconstruction only.Synthetic Fiber Ropes come in several differentconstructions. Those commonly used in underwayreplenishment are 3-strand; double braided; plaited;and double braided with a staple wrap. The doublebraided with staple wrap rope can be distinguishedfrom the others by its dull, soft, fuzzy appearanceand feel as compared to the shiny, smoothappearance and feel of non-staple wrapconstructions.Sizes of both Natural and Synthetic Fiber Ropes areidentified by their circumference, as opposed todiameter used for wire rope. Small 3-strand nylonand manila rope sizes are commonly referred to bynumber of threads. Refer to tables on followingpages.

FUNCTIONManila is the only rope authorized for use as ridinglines on fueling-at-sea rigs. Standard riding lines are4-inch manila rope used with two-folds made up of2 1/2-inch manila rope.

Easing out lines are made up of 12 to 21-threadmanila. Manila may also be used as lizard lines.Synthetic lines of various sizes and constructions are

used in numerous underway replenishmentapplications. However, the only synthetic highlineauthorized for transfer of personnel is 350 feet, ormore, of 4-inch double-braided, spun polyester withstaple wrap (in accordance with MIL-R-24536).Other typical applications of synthetic ropes inunderway replenishment include: 3-inch plaited, spun polyester (MIL-R-24537) for the synthetichighline rig inhaul line; and various sizes of eitherplaited polyester or 3-strand nylon for the STARmessenger.

SHACKLE S9570-AD-CAT-010

1-32

DESCRIPTIONThere are two types and two classes of SteelShackles commonly used in underwayreplenishment rigs.Type IVA shackles have curved body sides and arenarrower at the throat (the gap spanned by thescrew-pin or bolt) than at the widest part of theinside dimension of the curved body. This type ofshackle is termed "anchor" shackles.

Type IVB shackles have straight sides with thethroat width dimension the same as the maximuminside dimension of the body. This type of shackle istermed "chain" shackles. Class 2 shackles have a

pin, which passes through one eye and screws intothe other (threaded) eye. These are termed "screw-pin" shackles.Class 3 shackles have a bolt, which passes throughboth (unthreaded) eyes and is secured by a threadednut and a cotter pin. These are termed "safety"shackles.Shackle sizes are determined by the diameter of thesteel body rod (refer to illustration). All shacklesused in underway replenishment are grade B, whichis high strength. Shackle bodies are permanentlymarked in raised or stamped letters on the side withthe manufacturer's name or trademark, shackle size,

and safe working load. Grade B shackle pins or boltsare marked by raised or stamped letters "HS" on thehead.

FUNCTIONShackles are used in many applications in underwayreplenishment systems where a nonpermanentconnection is required. Typical applications includehanging blocks and connecting ends of wire ropes, chains, natural and synthetic lines to hooks, eyes orother hardware or load-bearing equipment.Safety shackles should be used wherever possible, especially when safety is critical for personnel or

equipment, or where loading of the rig is variableand quick removal is not required. Screw-pinshackles may be used in place of safety shackles butthe screw-pin must be seized to prevent it workingloose.

PART 3 — SOLID CARGO CONNECTED REPLENISHMENT (CONREP)SECTION A — INTRODUCTION

DESCRIPTION OF PART 3During Underway Replenishment, the majority ofsolid cargo is transferred by connectedreplenishment (CONREP). In this system thereceiving ship and delivery ship steam side by sideas cargo is transferred by wire rigging connectingthe ships. The three basic methods, with variations, include: Missile/Cargo STREAM and two non-tensioned methods, Burton and Highline.Essential to each method is the equipment necessaryto initially pass the transfer rig, i.e. shot or bolo line, rigging messenger, phone/distance lines, etc. Eachstation must provide means for operating the rig, i.e.booms, M-frames, outriggers, sliding or fixedpadeyes, winches or manpower, and associatedrigging. The actual method to be used will depend on: typeand quantity of cargo to be transferred; capacity ofthe rig and associated equipment; weight, size andconfiguration of the heaviest and largest load;weather and sea conditions; type, location andalignment of sending and receiving stations used.

The wide variation in ship sizes, design andconfiguration precludes a standard installation forany one transfer method. Individual ship's plansprovide the details for rigging a transfer or receivingstation. In many cases a transfer or receiving stationcan be rigged for more than one transfer method. The purpose of Part 3, Section A — Introduction isto describe the equipments and rigs used in theconnected transfer of solid cargo during underwayreplenishment.Section B — Equipment, provides descriptive dataon items associated with the various transfermethods. The information contains: the family orgeneric name and specific name; an illustration; adescription of the item and its function; capacity orlimiting load if applicable; National Stock Numberif assigned; drawing number; and/or appropriatereferences leading to more detailed information. Ingeneral, equipments utilized in storerooms, magazines, strikedown/strikeup and specific shipinstallations, are not included or are described inbroad terms only.

S9570-AD-CAT-010 ADAPTER

3-3

DESCRIPTIONThe Cargo Hook Adapter Assembly consists of anadapter which bolts to the STREAM trolley; a MK 1MOD 0 jaw and jaw swivel which is pinned (bolted)to the adapter; and a MK 2 MOD 0 safety hookwhich is pinned (bolted) to the swivel.

FUNCTIONThe Cargo Hook Adapter Assembly is used on cargoSTREAM rigs to transfer stores, general cargo orpersonnel when the receiving station is a slidingpadeye. If the receiving station is a fixed padeye or apendant station, the Cargo Hook Adapter Assemblycannot be used because there is no way to lower theload to the deck of the receiving ship. For transfer toa fixed padeye or pendant receiving station, a cargodrop reel must be used to lower the load to the deck. The cargo hook swivel allows rotation of the cargohook for easy hookup of the load to be transferred. However, the swiveling and swinging motions of thecargo hook, which are helpful during hookup, mayneed to be controlled during transfer with tendinglines. For this reason, transfer of long loads such asmissiles, should be accomplished using a strongbackrather than the Cargo Hook Adapter Assembly.

SHIPBOARD HELICOPTER FACILITIESCertificationOPNAV Instruction 3120.28, Certification ofAviation Facilities on Aviation and Non-AviationShips and NAVMAT Instruction 3120.1, AviationFacilities on Non-Aviation Ships; CertificationProcedures and Responsibilities establishes andimplements a formal inspection and certificationprogram to insure adequate and safe shipboardhelicopter facilities. Operating facilities includevisual landing aids (markings and lights),obstruction clearances, deck structure, communications, navigational aids, safetyequipment, and mooring equipment. Supportfacilities include all equipment and facilitiesrequired to logistically support, service and maintainhelicopters aboard ship.Aircraft carriers being aviation ships, have therequired facilities to operate and support helicopteroperations. Naval Air Systems Command,Helicopter Operating and Support Facilities BulletinNumber 1B of 22 August 1973 contains the detailedcertification requirements for helicopter operatingand support facilities aboard non-aviation ships. Thecertification program is supported by a rigidinspection procedure to insure compliance.Depending on the facilities available, certification isgranted for one of three levels and one of sevenclasses for each type of helicopter to be operated. The three levels of certification are determined bythe navigational aids and lighting equipmentinstalled on the ship. The three levels are:Level I — Day and Night IFR (Instrument FlightRules) (all weather) operations.Level II — Day and Night VFR (Visual FlightRules) (fair weather) operations.Level III — Day only VFR operations.

The seven classes of certification are determined bythe facilities' size, function, and support availability. The seven classes are:Class 1 — Landing area with support (service andmaintenance) facilities.Class 2 — Landing area with service facilities.Class 2A — Landing area with limited servicefacilities.Class 3 — Landing area without support facilities.Class 4 — VERTREP/hover area.Class 5 — High Hover VERTREP/hover area.Class 6 — HIFR (helicopter inflight refueling) area.UNREP Ship Facilities. Most UNREP ships haveexcellent helicopter operating facilities that wereincluded in their design. Some older ships have hadlimited facilities added to permit them to conductVERTREP with helicopters furnished by one of thenewer UNREP ships. Generally, UNREP ships havethe following helicopter operating and supportfacilities:Level I, Class 1 — AE 26 Class, all AFS, all AOEs.Receiving Ship Facilities. Non-aviation receivingships have varied helicopter facilities dependingupon their size. Some have two VERTREP facilitiesto provide a VERTREP missile delivery capabilityto all launchers. Additional information may beobtained by consulting Naval Air EngineeringCenter Helicopter Facility Resume (NAEC-Eng-7576).

VERTREP OPERATIONSVERTREP is a hover operation with the cargocarried externally, suspended on a sling hooked tothe cargo hook installed in a hatch in the cabin floor.Loads weighing up to 6000 pounds are staggered onthe UNREP ship's flight deck with hoisting slingsattached. When ready to transfer, the helicopterhovers over the load and the hook-up man places thehoisting sling on the cargo hook. At the receivingship the load is lowered gently to the VERTREPplatform, then the cargo hook is tripped to releasethe sling. Complete details may be obtained byconsulting Shipboard Helicopter OperatingProcedures (NWP 3-04.1M) or UnderwayReplenishment (NWP 4-01.4).
