Bases para aprender a realizar una prendaLearning how to make a garment
MUESTRA DEL PUNTO GAUGE
Antes de empezar una prenda es muy importante hacer una muestra de 10 x 10 cm. en el mismo punto en el que se va a realizar la prenda y comprobar que se ajusta a la muestra indicada en la revista, sino no coincidirán las medidas con las de la revista. Si tienes un número menor de puntos y vueltas, deberás repetir la muestra con agujas más finas, si por el contrario tienes un número mayor de puntos y vueltas deberás usar agujas más gruesas. El número de agujas que figura en la revista es el número que utilizó la persona que realizó la prenda pero cada persona tiene un sistema de trabajo distinto. Lo importante no es el número de agujas que se utiliza sino que la muestra de 10 x 10 coincida exactamente con la de la revista, de esta manera nos aseguramos de que la prenda tenga las medidas indicadas en el patrón.
It is very important to make the 4x4” tension gauge before starting the garment to ensure that the finished garment will be the same size and shape as given in the instructions. The needle size given in the gauge is only a suggestion. Since no two people will knit exactly the same you should work a 4x4” swatch using the designated yarn and pattern stitch. If you have too many stitches and rows in your swatch, try again with a larger needle. If you do not have enough stitches and rows make another swatch with smaller needles. It doesn’t matter which needle size you use as long as you obtain the correct gauge that coincides exactly with the one given in the magazine. Sometimes you may have to work with two different size needles to achieve the correct gauge: one for the right side and the other for the wrong side.

Encarar las piezas derecho con derecho y coser siguiendo el contorno de las piezas.
With right sides together, work a back stitch along the edges of the pieces.

Este tipo de costura también llamada invisible, se realiza por el derecho de la labor. Poner las dos piezas a coser, una al lado de la otra alineadas. Pasar la aguja por la entremalla (el hilo que une un punto con el siguiente) de la primera vta. de una pieza y después, clavarla en la entremalla de la 2ª vta. de la otra pieza. Continuar clavando la ag. de una a otra pieza como muestra el dibujo.
This type of seam is also invisible and is worked with the right sides facing. Place the two pieces together with straight edges touching and work back and forth from one piece to the other picking up the bar of yarn of the first row at the side of the edge stitch of one side, then draw the pieces together by picking up the bar of the second row on the opposite side. Continue inserting the needle from one piece to the other as shown in the diagram.

ADORNOS DECORATIONS
Agrupar los hilos necesarios para un fleco y doblar por la mitad. Clavar el ganchillo en la orilla del tejido, tomar los hilos por el lado doblado y hacerlos pasar hacia el revés de la labor, después anudar el fleco siguiendo el dibujo.
Group together the necessary strands of yarn to make a fringe and fold in half. Insert a crochet hook through the edge of the fabric, take the strands of yarn at the folded edge and pull the entire group of yarns to the back of the work, then knot the fringe as indicated in the drawing.
Flecos FringeCortar un rectángulo de cartón de la medida que queramos el fleco. Enrollar el hilo alrededor del cartón (procurar que los hilos queden uno al lado del otro y no encima). Cuando el cartón esté lleno con las tijeras cortar los hilos por un lado.
Cut a rectangle of card the required length of the fringing. Wrap the yarn around the card making sure that the yarns are side by side and not overlapping. When the card is full cut the threads at one side with scissors.
En cartón cortar dos círculos del tamaño que queramos el pompón y hacer un agujero en el centro.
Cut two circles of card the required size of the finished pom pom and cut out a hole in the middle of each piece of cardboard.
Superponer los dos círculos. Enhebrar una ag. lanera y recubrir las anillas de cartón enrollando la lana alrededor de ellas, hasta que quede lleno el agujero interior.
Overlap the two circles. Thread a wool sewing needle and wrap the yarn around the outside edges until they are completely covered and the hole in the middle is full.
Introducir la punta de las tijeras entre los dos cartones, para que sirvan de guía, y cortar la lana por el centro siguiendo todo el perímetro.
Introduce the point of the scissors between the two pieces of cardboard, to serve as a guide, and cut the wool in the middle following the circumference.
Separar un poquito los dos cartones para trabajar con comodidad y pasar entre los dos una hebra de lana del mismo color del pompón, de unos 30 cm de largo. Anudarla con firmeza para que no se desate.
Slightly separate the two pieces of card and pass a thread of yarn the same colour as the pom pom (approximately 11 3/4” (30 cm) long) between them. Tie a firm knot so it doesn’t unravel.

BORDADO EMBROIDERY
Esta técnica se utiliza cuando debes trabajar más de un color en la misma vta. y las distancia entre colores es de varios puntos. Normalmente es porque el dibujo a realizar es muy grande o son motivos muy separados. En este caso para evitar hebras muy largas por el revés de la labor, tomar un pequeño ovillo para cada uno de los colores y trabajar siguiendo el gráfico o según indique la explicación.Lo más importante es cruzar los hilos cada vez que se cambia de color, porque si los hilos no están entrelazados, tienden a separarse y formar agujeros en el tejido.
This technique is used when working with more than one colour in the same row and the distance between colours is across multiple stitches. It is normally used because the design being worked is very large or the motifs are separated with a large distance between them. In this case, to avoid long floating yarns on the back, prepare a small ball of yarn in each one of the colours and work following the graph or the instructions.It is very important to cross one yarn over the other every time there is a colour change. If the yarns are not interlaced they tend to separate and form holes in the fabric.

Combinando estos puntos se pueden hacer toda clase de labores, desde las más simples a las más laboriosas, con efectos sorprendentes.
Existen varias medidas de ganchillo que se utilizan según el grosor de la lana.
Todas las labores se explican con gráficos, más adelante daremos las instrucciones de cómo seguir una explicación.
Seguidamente pasamos a explicar en detalle y con dibujos los puntos básicos y algunas de sus combinaciones, acabados

Con el extremo del hilo hacer una anilla y sujetarla por la base con los dedos índice y pulgar, pasar el hilo que sale del ovillo por encima del dedo índice y por debajo del dedo medio.
Make a ring with the end of the yarn and hold it at the base with the index finger and thumb. Draw the thread from the ball of yarn over the index finger and under the middle finger.
Poner hilo sobre el ganchillo y pasarlo a tra-vés de la anilla, levantar un poco el ganchillo hacia arriba, sujetando los dos extremos del hilo, se ha formado un nudo en la base de la anilla.
Wrap yarn over hook and draw through the ring, lift the hook upwards slightly holding the two ends of the yarn and a knot has been formed at the base of the ring.

Trabajar igual que el punto alto doble pero para el punto alto triple poner 3 vueltas de hilo antes de empezar (ver 1º paso punto doble), 4 vueltas de hilo para el cuádruple etc., a conti-nuación seguir todos los pasos del punto alto doble repitien-do el 4º paso hasta que sólo queda una anilla en el ganchillo.
Begin same as triple crochet wrapping yarn around hook 1 more time for each longer crochet and going through 2 loops 1 more time for each added wrap.
Es un punto de adorno o de remate. Se trabaja igual que el punto bajo pero de izquierda a derecha. Una vez formada la anilla de inicio, empezar a trabajar la 1ª vta., en este caso se trabaja a punto alto, pero sería lo mismo en punto bajo o cualquier otro punto.Una vez hechos los puntos de cadeneta para empezar la vta., en este caso 3 p., poner hilo en el ganchillo, clavar en el centro de la anilla.
Once the base ring has been made start to work the 1st row, in this case it will be in dc, but it can be worked in any other stitch. Once the ch sts have been worked to start the row, in this case 3 stitches, wrap yarn over hook and insert through centre of ring.

CÓMO SEGUIR UN GRÁFICO DE GANCHILLO
HOW TO FOLLOW A CROCHET GRAPH
Básicamente hay dos formas de tejer: recto, se trabaja de derecha a izquierda y al �nal de cada vuelta se da la vuelta a la labor de forma que el ganchillo al empezar una vuelta siempre queda en el extremo derecho del tejido.
En el grá�co cada vuelta tiene un número, los impares en el lado derecho y los pares en el izquierdo, corresponden al número de vta. por lo tanto a la hora de seguir el grá�co en las vueltas impares la dirección es de derecha a izquierda y en las pares al contrario, como indican las �echas del grá�co de ejemplo.
Para trabajar en redondo, se empieza con puntos de cadeneta que se cierran con un punto enano trabajado en el 1º p. de cadeneta para formar la anilla o con una anilla mágica, sobre estas anillas se realiza la vuelta siguiente. Para mantener el tejido en redondo, en necesario que cada vta cierre con 1 p. enano trabajado en el 1º p. de la vta. El principio de cada vta está siempre junto al número a la izquierda de éste. Las vtas se empiezan con puntos de cadeneta que están ya representados en el grá�co.
Essentially, there are two ways of working: straight, working from right to left and turning the work at the end of each row so that at the start of each subsequent row the crochet hook is always at the far right side edge of the work.
On the graph each row has a number, the odd row numbers are on the right side and the even row numbers on the left, so when following the graph the odd rows are worked from right to left and the even rows in the opposite direction, as indicated by the arrows on the graph.
To work in the round start in ch st and close with a sl st worked in the 1st ch st to form the ring, or magic ring, which will be the base on which to work the following row. To maintain the round form always close the rows with a sl st worked in the 1st stitch of the row. The start of each row is always next to the number which is on the left of the row. The rows start with ch sts which are already represented on the graph.
En estos grá�cos de ejemplo cada vuelta se ha representado en diferente color para poder observar con claridad los p. que corresponden a cada una de ellas, tener en cuenta que en todos los grá�cos, las vtas siempre están numeradas por lo que es muy fácil saber donde empieza una vuelta (donde está el primer número) y sigue hasta encontrar el siguiente.
La representación grá�ca de las muestras y puntos de ganchillo es muy importante no sólo porque es una representación de la realidad, puedes ver como debe quedar el punto y el tejido que estas haciendo, en forma de zig-zag, de abanico etc., (es imposible saberlo siguiendo un texto escrito) sino que además te aporta una información básica que es en cada punto que trabajas donde debes clavar el ganchillo.
On these graphs different colours are used to represent the
rows so it is easy to see which stitches are being used for
each row. The rows are also numbered so that it is easy to
see where the row starts (where the first number is) and the
work can be followed until the next number indicates the
start of the subsequent row.
The graph is a true representation of what the crochet
will look like and shows the stitches to be worked such as
zig-zag, fan and shell shapes etc, (it’s impossible to know
what shape the pattern will be from the text only) and also
gives basic information about how to insert the hook in each
stitch to be worked.

Punto jacquard a ganchillo / tapestry Jacquard st crochet / tapestry
Tejer con el primer color dejando sin cerrar el último punto antes del cambio de color y coger el hilo del segundo color.
Crochet with the first colour, and without clo-sing (binding off) the last stitch of the work before changing colour, pick up the loose end of the second colour.
Pasar el hilo del segundo color a través de las 2 anillas del ganchillo. Clavar en el punto de base pasando por debajo de los hilos, como en el dibujo.
Pass the end of yarn in the second colour through the 2 rings on the crochet hook. Insert the hook into the base stitch below the yarns, as shown in the diagram.
Poner hilo sobre el ganchillo y pasar a través de las 2 anillas del ganchillo. El hilo que no está tejiendo queda siempre sobre los puntos de base.
Wrap yarn over the hook and draw through the 2 rings on the hook. The yarn that isn’t being worked is always on top of the base stitches.
Repetir el primer paso cada vez que se quiera cambiar de color, el hilo que no teje queda entre los puntos, así no quedan hebras por detrás de la labor.
Repeat the first step every time you want to make a colour change, whereby the yarn not being worked stays between the stitches so no long floats of yarn form on the back of the work.
Consejos útilesExplicación de las diferentes formas de clavar el ganchillo en los puntos para que la labor nos quede bien:
(1) Cuando se clava el ganchillo para hacer los diferentes puntos y pasadas se clava siempre el ganchillo por delante del punto, o sea que en el ganchillo nos deben quedar 2 anillas. Si sólo cogemos una nos quedará un agujero.
(2) Cuando se trabaja un punto encima de cadenetas, el gan-chillo no se clava en medio de la cadeneta, sino cogiendo todo el punto de cadeneta, excepto en la 1ª vuelta del trabajo en sentido recto que siempre debe clavarse el ganchillo en el centro del punto de cadeneta de inicio.
(3) Cuando se trabaja en redondo, después de hacer la anilla a p. de cadeneta, empieza la 1ª vta. trabajando dentro de esta anilla de inicio.
Useful tips
Different ways to insert the hook into the stitches in order to achieve the best results.
(1) Always have the hook in front of the fabric to work the different stitches and rows so we must end up with 2 rings on the hook. If we pick up one stitch only we will end up with a hole.
(2) When working a stitch on top of the ch st the hook is not inserted in the middle of the st, but picking up the whole ch st, except for the 1st row where the hook is inserted through the centre of the ch sts at the start.
(3) When working in the round, after making the chain st ring, start the 1st row by working within this starting ring.
