Offering Working Hunter (Open and Encourage), 3 Dressage tests, Showmanship, and for the very first time Ridden Native Pony classes – this event literally has something for everyone. Over 40 horses and ponies competed in the 28 class program vying to take out 5 Best Performed Awards. Victorian WP&CS judges Megan Howe (Nawarrah Stud) and Gary Le Brocq (Nattai River Stud) judged the Working Hunter and the Ridden Native Pony classes. The brain-child of Gary Le Broq, the Ridden Native Pony event is designed to provide special classes suited to the native breeds, which of course include welsh. While in its infancy, we had good entries and were delighted to have one Connemara and one Fjord entry!! The SA RPG is looking to build this event and hopes to attract more welsh entries and also Shetlands, Australian and New Forrest ponies and maybe even one or two Hafllingers, Fells and Dartmoors. The dressage has attracted strong entries right from the inception of this event and 2011 was no exception. So popular is the dressage that we have to limit it to two tests per exhibitor. Kerry Glass judged the five tests offered. Equally popular is the Showmanship class. We offered the 3-phase event this year whereby competitors do a dressage test, followed immediately by a jumping element and then in-hand presentation. The jumping was judged by Miss Jane Bush and the in-hand by Ms Elizabeth Chibnall. Thank you to Kerry, Jane and Elizabeth for doing such a super job. Also thanks to all the helpers who set up on Saturday, ran the canteen and worked as stewards, marshals and runners on the day. We are deeply indebted to you all. Changes to show regulations and rules

The WP&CS Show Rules and Regulations are constantly under review. Here’s the latest changes: Entering the ring at a walk Please be aware that while in the marshalling area, and entering and departing the ring, exhibits must ‘be at no faster than a WALK’, unless directed otherwise by the Ring Master or official. Failure to comply will result in dis-qualification. (Show regulation # 22) Fall of a rider The rule that a ‘fallen’ rider must not remount in the ring and is disqualified from the event now applies to driv-ers in harness classes. (Show regulation # 23) Artificial aids While artificial aids such as whips and spurs are per-missible in welsh classes, make sure you use the correct gear. Remember in Children’s events dressage whips and spurs are not permitted. Hacking canes and crops are acceptable. A snaffle bit only may be used. (Show regulation # 61). Length of whips Whips must not to exceed 75 centimetres, excluding tails in all classes excluding dressage. (Show regulation # 62) Bits for led animals Remember that all colts 2 years and over must be bitted in the ring (Show regulation # 42) and all foals are to be haltered in the ring and must not be bitted. (Show regulation # 39). Bits are optional for mares, fillies and geldings of any age. Brood mares A Brood Mare is a mare which has foaled, has her own foal at foot, or is to foal in the current breeding sea-son, prior to the 31st of July.(Show regulation # 29).

SA All Welsh celebrates 30th Anniversary

What a thrill for Rivington Stud to take out this prestigious award. Especially as the Stud had placed second every year since the Awards inception as a National award in 2005 - an incredible feat in itself. In 2009 the trophy be-came a state by state award. The breeders trophy was established in memory of the late Lady Dinah Creswick who founded the Nattai Stud - one of the longest running and most prestigious Welsh Mountain pony studs. Points for the award are calculated from ponies bred by studs, and shown at the relevant State All Welsh Show. In 2010 South Australia hosted the trophy at the 2010 SA All Welsh Show. Rivington Stud took out the trophy as the most success breeder at this event. It was exceptionally fitting that of their 16 ponies produced for the event, 7 of the Welsh Mountain ponies exhibited traced back to a Nattai pony. "It was a huge honour to be awarded the prestigious Dinah Creswick Breeders Trophy at the 2011 Society AGM, said Sarah Barker from Rivington Stud. "We're very proud to have won this trophy as Lady C, as she was know, was a very dear friend, said Sarah. "Our family visited and stayed at her famous Nattai Stud many times over the years". Rivington Stud ponies bought from Nattai Stud included the impeccably bred stallions Nattai Vychan dec.(Coed Coch Bari x Nattai Moon Fairy) and Nattai Harri 11. While N Harri 11 was the show stallion (winning Supreme WM at every outing) it was N Vychan (dec) who produced the top show ponies and continues to have such a huge influence in the stud through his many descendants. As the winner, Rivington received a beautiful limited edition plate featuring the wonderful stallion, Coed Coch Proffwyd imp, who was much beloved by Lady Creswick. The award will return to SA for the 2016 SA All Welsh.

Rivington Stud wins Dinah Creswick Breeders Trophy

SA RPG Member News

Alinga Park has a new arrival, AP Diamontina bay part welsh filly. AP Superstar has been sold to Clair Llewellyn. He was gelded and will be shown in hand untill he is old enough to be a ridden pony. AP Spring Carnival has also been sold to a family at Globe Derby for their young daugh-ter. We wish both new owners the best with their ponies.

Corumbene Stud has had a good 2011/12 show season with a great start at Crystal Brook Ag. PW Mare C Classic was Supreme of the Show and then followed that up with Champion at Kadina Show, Day at the Bay Show and Re-serve at Gawler Ag. She has carried on from where she left off last season. Rivington Royal Hiccup was Champion at Crystal Brook and Reserve at Gawler. We have started two new PW ponies, Rathowen Free Spirit and C Impres-sionable. Free Spirit has had 2 starts for 4 wins and Cham-pion Large Pony at both shows and Impressionable has had 2 wins and Reserve at his first Show. Looking forward to the SHC HOTY and the EA HOTY.

Dalbrae Stud has had three of four foals expected—all colts. Flowerdale Bracelet had a light chestnut colt by Wes-ton Park Tipperary; Cherrytree Lilac a grey colt by WP Vin-tage and D. Victoria has a dun colt by Imperial Haroun. Fingers crossed for a filly from D. Lowri by WP Tipperary. We have also purchased a yearling colt, Ripple Brook Cu-pid (WP Piccolo x RB Upmarket [SOD Imperial Maestro]) who was Best Foal at 2010 Vic All Welsh.

Flindersdale have welcomed 4 foals this season - all fil-lies. A bay section C (Flindersdale Edwardian x Follettdale Yvette), 2 chestnut section B’s by Fair Gala Valentino out of F Sian and F Mirinda and a liver chest PW out of F Lav-ender Rose, which may yet go grey.

Glen Lewis Stud is thrilled to announce the arrival of the wonderful old section C stallion, Sackville Sinbad (imp). Being by Parc Carlo out of Synod Sadie (SOD Synod William). Sinbad will be standing to only a very few outside mares, so if you are interested please contact Lucy. Also eagerly awaited is our first foal by Mariana Lodge Elliott. This is due from SA All Welsh Supreme C, Cataraqui Emily. Erin and her cousin Rebecca, had the most wonderful day at the Welsh Performance Day in August. Congratulations to the committee on a job well done.

Jessington Farm had a surprise arrival in August, J. Extra Special gave birth to a lovely little palomino filly, that the children have called Elly (J. Elegant Gold). We are eagerly awaiting the birth of our last foal by Alpha Galliano out of Dalpura Serenity. Galliano was gelded earlier in the year and will now become the children’s pony. After a spell due to injury Blackwood Flair is back on the show circuit again. With placings at a few of our local shows. J. Eternal Joy has been sold to a family at Lewiston. We were very proud of our wonderful little mare Dalbrae Hetty and Jessica when they competed at the recent Welsh Performance Day, they tied for the Best Performed Welsh Award.

Seawynd have had 2 foals to date an elegant bay colt and a lovely chestnut filly both by young stallion Moonlight Ex-press. S. Colorado has a new home in Qld. The Ball family will use him as a Showing and ridden prospect. S. Covergirl has just left home to make the long trip to WA. The Burren family have great plans for her in performance, showing and later to breed. S. Miss Montana has also gone to WA to the McKenzie’s. She will be shown as a youngster and once matured used for breeding. S. Tywlyth Teg has settled in to his new home at Strathalbyn. Sandra has plans for him as a ridden performance mount I look forward in seeing him out and about once he matures. All are by Derwen Dakota (imp). We wish their new owners much success in the coming years.

Wadelee Pony Stud - On a personal note, I am thrilled with the arrival of my gorgeous little daughter 'Eliza Claire Herring' on Good Friday, April 22nd. She is a little cham-pion and luckily for me and my hubby Matt she loves her sleep! Just to prove it, Eliza is pictured here sleeping on jess’s saddle!! Exciting times for the stud in 2011, as we have purchased a new brood-mare Cloud Valley Damzel who is a 15.2hh Arabian Warmblood. She will be an asset to the stud for breeding Pony Dressage & Hunter ponies. She will be joined to Wynara Talk of the Town this spring. Our 3 other resident broodmares are all due to foal to him, we eagerly await the resulting progeny. Mares include a TB, RP/PW and a Pinto PW. All foals will be offered for sale. I have recently competed at two Pony Dressage events on W. Talk of the Town with success. We look forward to showing him and homebred gelding Wadelee Cartier at this year's SA All Welsh...which I missed last year because of my pregnancy.

Rivington Stud - Adelaide Royal has been and gone with R Royal Hiccup 3rd in her Open Show Hunter, 2nd in the Childs and 5th in the Lead Rein. R Windchime was again 2nd in her Novice Show Hunter class. Foaling has started in earnest with 3 fillies and 4 colts thus far. We are particularly impressed with Pen-nant Primetime’s PW foals. Sales have been steady with ponies finding homes in SA, WA, NSW and Vic over the last few months. We have purchased two new boys for Rivington. Imperial Beethoven (Imperrial Maestro x Simeon Sunny Bee) a Waxwing Herod (imp) double cross. This stunning chestnut stallion had previously stood in NSW at Osory and Eagle Pk Studs plus in Vic at Alpha stud. Beethoven is a ½ brother to the stellar mare Imperial Bewitched. The other purchase is the 2yr old liver chestnut Welsh B colt Imperial Aden (Eyarth Tigra (imp) x Imperial Anouska). Aden is a full brother to the well per-formed filly Imperial Lady Alyss. All going well Aden will debut at the 2011 SA All Welsh Show.
