SAA Show Choir 2017-2018 Audition Information Show Choir Auditions for 2017-2018 at SAA will be held Tuesday, April 18 th (vocal audition) and Thursday, April 20 th (group dance auditions). Applicants for Show Choir must currently be in 7 th or 8 th grade, and have had 1 semester of Mixed Choir if currently enrolled at SAA, or have had a semester of choir at the school they are transferring from. The vocal auditions are individual, and the dance audition is done with all applicants together in a group. There will be a sign up sheet on Mrs. Bayn’s door for time slots for the vocal auditions. Please come in or email Mrs. Bayn ([email protected]) to reserve a time to audition. Auditions will start at 2:50 and run until we are done in the evening. Vocal auditions will take place in the auditorium. Dance auditions, you do not need to sign up for. Please just show up at 3:30 on Thursday, April 20 in the cafeteria ready to dance. All prospective show choir members should know the following: 1. Show Choir at SAA is a wonderful opportunity for young musicians to get more from their choral experience. Once you audition for, and are accepted into the SAA Show Choir, you will be committing yourself to all the performance opportunities that the group will be committed to in the 2016-2017 school year. This auditioned group will sing and dance, do concerts and festivals, and will perform a wide variety of music from popular to traditional. 2. On occasion, after school rehearsals may be necessary to learn and practice the choreography for upcoming shows. 3. SAA Show Choir membership will be based on several factors, which will be evaluated in the audition. Those factors include: a. Vocal audition: all students need to come prepared to sing The Star Spangled Banner a cappella and have the required measures from Maps, learned for appropriate vocal range (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass) with accompaniment prepared. The accompaniment can be found on the Show Choir Class page on the school’s website. Use the following link: http://antelope7-9.syracuseartsacademy.org/apps/classes/show_class.jsp?classREC_ID=759454 Please look for the post labeled “Show Choir Audition Music-Maps.” b. Dance ability: Students will audition as a group for dance. Please come in comfortable clothes and ready to dance. A short set of choreography will be taught at the dance auditions, and once the group is comfortable with the choreography, abilities will be assessed. Students will be using their audition music from Maps in the dance audition. c. Showmanship: Some students have a natural showmanship which they exhibit at all times, others have the ability to “turn it on and off” as needed. Show Choir members need to be able to “get happy” and exhibit energy, feeling, and excitement when they perform. Please remember that attitude is everything, and plays a very important role in both auditions and in class.

Students who audition for Show Choir at Syracuse Arts Academy must be committed first to the

Syracuse Arts Academy Choral Program and to the Show Choir. Each student who auditions for the show

choir will do so with the understanding that chorus is the chosen elective. If you are not committed to

choir 100% then DO NOT AUDITION FOR SHOWCHOIR. THESE INDIVIDUALS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT ALL

SHOWCHOIR PERFORMANCES. Those individuals selected for show choir will do all that they can to be

at every choir performance. This will include preparing homework in advance, rearranging schedule

conflicts and making responsible decisions based on their commitment to the SAA Show choir.) Show

Choir members are expected to be motivated, leaders, and set outstanding examples in all that they do.

Each member will demonstrate this leadership daily, by their behavior in chorus, and in their other

classes.
