SUSTAINABILITY DESIGN APPROAHS
• SPADC is targeting LEED Silver Certificate. The USGBC has
approved the LEED design submittals,
• 23% of energy reduction was accomplished by incorporating a
number of energy saving features i.e. variable speed pumping
and VSD to control the chillers, high performance glazing,
heat recovery system, building management system, light
Control System..etc,
• Implemented Erosion and Sedimentation Control during the
construction works,
• More than 20% of the total project site is vegetated by native
plants.
• All the applied water for irrigation will be non-potable water. In
addition, landscape plants were chosen for their low water
consumption needs with drip irrigation method, that shall
reduce the water used by irrigation by 56%.
• The flushing system is dual flush and non-potable water is
used, that reduces the potable domestic water consumption in
the building by 40% when compared with conventional
buildings.
• 10% of all materials used contains recycled content.

SUSTAINABILITY IN DESIGN – COMMON PARAMETERS
Sustainable Strategies Site
• Providing an alternative transportation to reduce the CO2 emissions.
• More than 20% of the total project site is vegetated by native plants.
Water Efficiency
• All the applied water for irrigation is non-potable water. In addition, landscape plants were chosen for
their low water consumption needs with drip irrigation methods, that shall reduce the water used by
irrigation by more than 50%.
• All units have shower heads, kitchen sink and the lavatories that are designed to deliver a high
velocity stream with a reduced water flow. The flushing system is dual flush and non-potable water is
used.
• Reducing the potable domestic water consumption in the buildings by 40% when compared with
conventional buildings.
No. 39
SUSTAINABILITY IN DESIGN – COMMON PARAMETERS
• Energy
Energy reduction is accomplished by incorporating a number of energy saving features:
Variable Speed Pumping and VSD to control the Chillers
High Performance Glazing
Heat Recovery system
Building Management System
Light Control System
• Materials and Waste
More than 20% of all materials used contain a recycled content.
More than 20% of materials, products and raw materials in the buildings are manufactured and
extracted within 500 miles of the project site.
• Indoor Environmental Quality
Lighting and temperature systems in common spaces, as well as individual units, can be
individually controlled, so tenants can define their own comfort levels.
Implementing Air Quality Management measures
INTERNATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY RANKING FOR DESIGN AND EXECUTION
No. 41
INTERNATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY RANKING FOR DESIGN AND EXECUSION
U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)
• A private membership-based and non-profit organization that promotes sustainability in how buildings
are designed, built, and operated.
• USGBC is best known for its development of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
(LEED) green building rating systems.
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) • LEED is a set of rating systems for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of green
buildings, homes and neighborhoods.
Eight areas are covered in LEED certification:
Innovation and design process (ID) Location & linkages (LL)
Sustainable sites (SS) Water efficiency (WE)
Energy & atmosphere (EA) Material & resources (MR)
Indoor environmental quality (EQ) Awareness and education (AE)

PROGRESS OVERVIEW (1/2)PROJECT OVERVIEW
SABIC Plastics Applications Development Center (SPADC)
Project was initiated by a joint agreement between SABIC, The
Ministry of Petroleum & Minerals and King Saud University at late
2008 mainly to;
To support KSA down stream industry in fields of
automotive, construction and packaging clusters,
To be center of excellence for packaging, automotive and
compounding to serve customers in KSA and ROW.
Support business to penetrate new markets through
application development, demonstrations and promotions
to drive customer growth in all SABIC polymers.
Technical training center for SABIC customers and
employees.
SPADC is targeting LEED Silver Certificate complying to USGBC
