opening is behind us, our student

services offices is shifting gears to better

serve our students and visitors. Effective

Monday 10/2, the registrar will be

available from 6:30 AM - 12:30 PM

daily. Counselors, who are currently

meeting with students individually, are

also available by appointment

throughout the school day.

We at Duke Summer Session invite you to help us spread the word about our incredible summer programs. Please share the information below with your students for a once-in-a-lifetime experience: We are happy to announce that our website has been updated and now contains information about our 2018 programs. At Duke Summer Session, we’re in the business of creating life-changing experiences. With our world-class instructors, breathtaking campus, and downright fun residential program, our students leave our program not only equipped for a future of collegiate success, but with a lifetime of memories and friendships.

Career and College Promise (CCP) Career and College Promise (CCP) gives high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to get a "jump start" and earn college credit toward a two-year or four-year degree while still in high school. Students are dually enrolled in their high school and at Central Piedmont Community College, allowing them to receive both high school and college credit for courses taken through the program. Best of all, CCP classes are tuition-free during the fall, spring and summer semesters. We also give $50 to assist with purchasing your books for your class(es).

Commercial Food on Campus

In order to provide support for the Federally Funded Food Program and to minimize issues at our school caused by food deliveries, which requires students

to pick them up, we ask that any food items you wish to include in your student’s lunch be packed and brought with them at the beginning of the day. Microwaves are available in the lunch room for stu-

dents to heat food and a nutritious lunch can be purchased. Students will not be permitted to pick

up food from any location (office or direct delivery). Items dropped off for students will be kept in the office and made available for pick up at the end of

the school day.

ACT (American College Testing Program) Dear Parent/Guardian:

The ACT College Admissions Assessment will be given free of charge to all North

Carolina 11th-graders on February 27, 2018; the makeup date is March 20, 2018.

The ACT is part of North Carolina’s school accountability program.

In addition, the ACT results may be used at the high school level to identify students

who need assistance with certain subject areas or academic skills, to evaluate

effectiveness of instruction, and to make adjustments to curriculum to improve

instruction. Colleges use ACT scores for admissions decisions, course placement,

academic advising, and loans and scholarships. Students participating in the statewide

ACT administration can select for free up to four colleges (or other reporting agencies)

to receive their ACT scores.

Students who have taken either the SAT or the ACT before February 16, 2018, and

have scores that meet the college readiness benchmark standards, do not have to

participate in the statewide ACT administration. However, it is the students’

responsibility to notify the school that they do not wish to participate in the ACT.

Students may not combine test scores from prior separate administrations to meet

college readiness benchmark scores. All college readiness benchmark scores must

be attained during the same test administration.

Testing Exception To be considered for an ACT testing exception, students must comply with the

following:

• Before submitting the request for exemption, students must have either SAT or

ACT test scores that meet the following college readiness benchmarks:

o SAT college readiness benchmark scores before February 28, 2016 include all of the following subtests:

o SAT college readiness benchmark scores after March 1, 2016 include the following subtests:

Test SAT Score

Critical Reading 500

Mathematics 500

Writing 500

Test SAT Score

Evidence-Based Reading and Writing Score

480

Mathematics 530

o ACT college readiness benchmark scores include all of the following subtests:

Students must complete a copy of the ACT Testing Exception Student Request Form

(available at the school) and submit the request to the principal or the principal’s

designee no later than February 16, 2018.

If you have questions or concerns about the ACT, please contact Elaine Miller at

During December 11-13, students who provided their email address on their PSAT/NMSQT

answer sheet will receive an email reminder from College Board explaining where and how to

view their scores.

If your student does not see their score when they login, they may need to enter an access code. Students can get their Access Code from our Test Coordinator, Elaine Miller. Codes will not be given out on the phone or via email. Due to score security, a student will need to come to the Testing Office - A107 - to receive their access code.
