PRESIDENT’S REPORT
This is good time to start thinking about the Sacramento Area Modeler’s Open House that will be held on June 13th. This is a great family event that allows family members and friends to fly our airplanes and see what the hobby is really about. In the past, we have had great success, shown people how much fun and all the great camaraderie that SAM provides. So if you know nonmembers that would like to see what this is about, please invite them to the Open House. You can get more information about this on the website. This year we are working with a couple of school districts to try and get more kids and their families introduced to the RC Industries. Remember, it is free for all participants and lunch is also free. Let's give a few people a hand that have put a lot of effort into this already; Jim Lichtenberg, Ollie Merrill and Mark Forester. We have many others that will be helping as time goes by. If you would like to help, please contact any of the board members. We appreciate any help you can provide. I would like to say congrats to Kimo Diaz and his co-CDs, Jerry Cunningham and Sergio Varo for putting on a great event called the Big Kahuna Memorial Warbird Race. They did an awesome job on preparing and running this race. With the help of all the volunteers, this event went off without a flaw. A special thanks goes to Mark Forester for all the publicity. It drew more spectators than we have seen in a very long time. Events like this really put our club on the map. Till next time, fly safe and have a great time at the Sacramento Area Modelers Flying Field!!! JR Schiager “Good Sportsmanship Equals Fun For All”

DO YOU HAVE A VALID AMA CARD?
Remember: Our By-Laws and the County of Sacramento require a current AMA Card to fly at the S.A.M. site. Also did you know that your current status as a member requires a valid AMA card? If you do not have a current AMA Card in your possession or proof in the form of a fax or e-mail from AMA, do not fly. If you fly without AMA membership, you will be in violation of our rules and may be suspended from flying at the S.A.M. site. Contact the AMA at 1-800-435-9262 for membership when paying via credit card.
FLIGHT INSTRUCTORS Are you new to R/C flying? Or perhaps you need to brush up or even just want to talk with one of our “Pro’s.” SAM’s corps of Flight Instructors stands ready to help you. You may call Jim Lichtenberg our Flight Instructor Coordinator at 916-681-5335 or e-mail at [email protected] and he will arrange for the assistance you need. SAM Board Meeting Minutes Date: March 11th, 2015 Location: Brookfield’s Restaurant – Folsom Blvd. Time: 7:25 PM Board Members Present: President: JR Schiager, Vice President: Jerry Cunningham, Secretary: Jim Smith, Treasurer: Steve Brown, Membership: Dick Weston, Publicity: Mark Forister, Events: Kimo Dias, Safety: Sergio Varo, Field Marshall: Rodger Cady Absent: N/A Officer reports President: JR opened the meeting with a discussion regarding flying site safety items. There had been some ongoing research regarding many of the flying site rules and whether or not the site rules needed updating. JR looked to the rest of the board members for input regarding site rules and the review of the starting tables within the pit area. The board members agreed that the startup tables do not pose any greater safety issues and that they are a benefit to some members. The overwhelming sentiment was that when used correctly for starting and brief run up to clear out motors the tables were useful for the membership. It was decided that there should be a greater importance to have fun verses the need to change or amend the current site rules. The next topic was in regard to a request for site use by a group heading up a program for relief efforts in Syria using RC Pilots. The board thought that the concept of working with the organization was promising, however the time table to and the request to close the field to normal flight operations did not seem fair to the membership on such a short notice. More information was requested of the organization in an effort to be supportive if the project was deemed appropriate. JR also let everyone present know that the club had received some airplanes as a donation from the estate of a past member. Steve Brown was tasked with determining if some should be sold or if there were any that could be used in conjunction with the annual open house. Next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 8th, location TBD. Vice President: Jerry did not have anything to report. Events: Kimo spoke regarding the first event of the year – The Big Kahuna Memorial race in memory of Jerry Votaw. Kimo is also CD of the event and has been working hard in preparation for the April 12th event. Secretary: Nothing to report. Treasurer: Steve went over the current budget report. Field Marshall: Rodger mentioned that he would be gearing up for the upcoming event and was considering painting the pylons. Membership: Dick shared that the membership count was currently at 130 members. Safety: Being that this month’s meeting centered around safety, Sergio felt that most of the topics had been covered previously. He did add that there had been no reports given to him regarding any safety items at the field. Publicity: Mark brought up that he needs access to having some copies made for event flyers. Kimo offered to assist and JR stated that he would email event flyers to Parks and Recreation. New Business: none Old Business: none Motions: none Meeting adjourned at: 9:10 PM Respectfully submitted, Jim Smith, Secretary
