Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord, Welcome!

It is a blessing to have you join the Sacred Heart worshiping community as we celebrate our Eucharistic Liturgy for the 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Your presence and prayerful participation enrich our

Liturgy. May our time in prayer lift your spirit and nurture your faith. Thanks for being with us! After two weekends away from Sacred Heart, I have returned!! The first weekend was part of my 8-day silent directed retreat at Stella Maris Retreat Center. I was on retreat with 27 religious sisters and two lay women. Being the only male retreatant, I was happy for the silence!! Really, it was a blessing to be surrounded by prayerful and faith filled women. Although most of you said you could never do the “silent thing,” I recommend it. Silence provides an environment for listening to God as one prays, reflects, reads, journals and learns gratitude. Silence has a way of calming our hearts and slowing down our minds. Silence often brings peace! Plan of period of silence as part of your busy day!! You won’t regret it! The second weekend I spent at the shore with my brothers, sister and their families. It was a blessing! Spending time with them keeps me grounded in the realities of family life. In today’s Gospel, Jesus acknowledges the need to ;“get away.” The disciples have returned. They are weary, having spent time on the road preaching repentance. Jesus says to them, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest awhile.” Hopefully in these summer days, you will be able to find time to “come away and rest awhile.” Be well! God bless,

Fr. McKee

There is something about the changed pace of our lives during the summer months that makes it a little easier to dedicate time to our spiritual growth. Here is yet another suggestion to help you focus on your relationship with God:

4. TAKE IN THE WONDERS OF SUNSETS. In a workshop titled "The Spirit of the Earth," Manolb Catina stated: "Look at the colors in the sky at sunset. The day that is fading away is like your inner being that is changing little by little, that has the freedom to transform, to grow. . . . Look into these colors of the sunset and see the being that you are, which is transforming." As you watch a sunset, ponder the shades and contrasts in your life. Say goodbye to those parts of yourself you wish to change or discard as the Sun dips behind the horizon. God is calling us to let go of all negative energy and be replenished with His grace and mercy.
