Dear People of God,
Election Day is November 6 and when we will choose our local officials and representatives to Congress. Today, there are so many issues that affect you and me. What can we do about them? First, make sure you register to vote. Then VOTE on November 6.
Pope Francis encourages Catholics to participate in politics for the common good. All are called upon to “build a civilization of truth and love.”
We want the dignity of every human being to be respected, especially the poor. We want a world where the air is healthy and everyone has access to clean water, where the streets are free of violence, where everyone earns fair wages, and there is free, quality education for your children.
Archbishop Oscar Romero said that we must be God’s microphone; that each one of us must be a messenger, a prophet. As your Pastoral Leader, I want you to realize that your “microphone” is your VOTE; it is YOUR way to make a difference. Let us be “good and faithful” citizens: let us register to vote before the deadline on October 22nd and vote on November 6.

MENSAJE DE BISHOP COTTA SO-BRE LA IMPORTANCIA DE VOTAR Estimado pueblo de Dios, El 6 de noviembre es Día de Elecciones cuando elegiremos a funcionarios locales y los representan-tes al Congreso. Hoy, hay tantos temas que te afectan a ti y a mí. ¿Así
que, que vamos a hacer al respecto? Animo a aquellos que no están registrados para votar que por favor lo hagan hoy. Y vote el 6 de noviembre. Como claramente dice el Papa Francisco, es nuestra responsabilidad como cristianos el participar en la vida política. Todos somos llamados a “construir una civilización de verdad y amor.” Si queremos un mundo mejor necesitamos proteger el aire y la agua, necesitamos asegurarnos que todos ganen un salario justo y que haya oportunidades de educación para usted y sus hijos. Necesitamos asegurarnos que la dignidad de cada persona sea respetada y apreciada y que los pobres sean prioridad. También queremos menos violencia en nuestras calles. El Arzobispo Oscar Romero nos dice: que debemos de ser el micrófono de Dios, cada uno de nosotros debe ser un mensajero, un profeta. My Dear Brothers and Sisters, As October is the Month of the Holy Rosary, it is a perfect time to encourage the faithful, and us, to pray the Rosary with more fervor than ever. On October 13, 1917, Our Lady identified herself as the “Lady of the Rosary” to the Three Shepherd Children of Fátima during her sixth and final apparition. Let us, during these troubling times in the Church, and in the world, take Our Lady’s request to heart and pray the Rosary daily. Let us prayer it with a greater fervor for ongoing conversion in our own lives, and as Our Lady mentions: for the conversion of “poor sinners.” In reparation for the grave sin of sexual abuse, the healing of the survivors of abuse, and for the many ways that human life is not “respected” in our day and age, let us pray the Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, as individuals, as a community, and as the clergy of the Diocese of Stockton.
