Dear Parishioners of Sacred Heart Parish, It is with great sadness and reluctance on my part as your pastor to have to deliver the following direc-tives from Bishop Weisenburger. Beginning Monday, November 30, 2020, we will no longer be able to cele-brate the daily Mass in the church and we will be returning to Phase One restrictions for the celebration of weddings, funerals, etc., and the parish office must be closed. Bishop Weisenburger sites the increase in COVID-19 Chinese virus cases in our state and the country as the reason for taking these actions. The cele-bration of the Sunday Mass schedule will remain the same, observing the safety protocols at all times. The following is an excerpt from the Bishop's email of Tuesday, November 24, 2020:

At the conclusion of the discussions, due to the rapidly rising number of Covid-19 infections and the re-duced hospital capacity to absorb more of the infirm, I am enacting the following directives: Sunday Mass: Sunday Mass will continue indoors, but Holy Communion is to be distributed at the end of Mass so that the communicant can exit the Church without unduly compromising social distancing. Parishioners will continue to wear masks, social distance and wash their hands before entering the Church. During mass, doors and windows may be opened to allow the circulation of air within the Church according to the judgment of the pastor. Ventilating liturgical spaces might reduce the chance of infection. Daily Mass: Daily Mass may not be held indoors. Daily Mass can be moved to the outdoors where the movement of air might serve to reduce the chance of infection. Masks, social distancing and washing of hands is still required to attend. Pastors are encouraged to continue streaming Daily Mass if possible. Parish Offices: Parish offices should be closed, and employees permitted to work remotely from home. Parish’s telephones can be forwarded and calls by parishioners ought to be monitored. Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass and Feast of the Immaculate Conception: These two celebrations can follow the protocols established for Sunday Mass above. Funerals, Weddings, Quinceañeras, Baptisms, Penance (Confession): We are returning to Phase One Protocols when celebrating these events. I recommend that you implement these directives as soon as practical, but beginning no later than Monday, November 30th. I am planning on meeting with the COVID-19 Committee before the third Sunday of Advent to revisit these directives to determine what modifications we can make for the remainder of the holiday season. My hope is that by instituting the above will help us mitigate the spread of the virus, keep you safe and healthy, and allow for all of us to have a meaningful and joyful Advent and Christmas Celebrations. The Bishop plans to review these directives before the Third Sunday of Advent (December 13, 2020) and determine whether it is prudent to lift the restrictions at that time. Please continue to pray for the Bishop that he will keep in mind the spiritual needs of his flock. — Fr. Velásquez

Estimados feligreses de la parroquia del Sagrado Corazón, Es con gran tristeza y desgana de mi parte como su pastor tener que entregar las siguientes directivas del obispo Weisenburger. A partir del lunes 30 de noviembre de 2020, ya no podremos celebrar la Misa diaria en la iglesia y volveremos a las restricciones de la Fase Uno para la celebración de bodas, funerales, etc., y la oficina parroquial estará cerrada. El obispo Weisenburger considera que el aumento de casos del virus chino COVID-19 en nuestro estado y el país es la razón para tomar estas medidas. El horario de celebración de la misa dominical seguirá sien-do el mismo, respetando en todo momento los protocolos de seguridad. El siguiente es un extracto del correo electrónico del obispo del martes 24 de noviembre de 2020:

Al final de las discusiones, debido al número rápidamente creciente de infecciones por Covid-19 y la capacidad reducida del hospital para absorber más de los enfermos, estoy promulgando las siguientes directivas: Misa dominical: La misa dominical continuará en el interior, pero la Sagrada Comunión se distribuirá al final de la Misa para que el comulgante pueda salir de la Iglesia sin comprometer indebidamente el dis-tanciamiento social. Los feligreses continuarán usando máscaras, distancia social y lavándose las manos antes de ingresar a la Iglesia. Durante la misa, se pueden abrir puertas y ventanas para permitir la circu-lación del aire dentro de la Iglesia de acuerdo con el juicio del pastor. Ventilar los espacios litúrgicos podría reducir la posibilidad de infección. Misa diaria: No se puede celebrar misa diaria en interiores. La misa diaria se puede trasladar al aire libre, donde el movimiento del aire podría servir para reducir la posibilidad de infección. Aún se requiere máscaras, distanciamiento social y lavado de manos para asistir. Se anima a los pastores a continuar transmitiendo la misa diaria si es posible. Oficinas parroquiales: Las oficinas parroquiales deben estar cerradas y los empleados deben trabajar de forma remota desde su casa. Los teléfonos de la parroquia se pueden desviar y las llamadas de los feli-greses deben ser monitoreadas. Misa de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe y Fiesta de la Inmaculada Concepción: Estas dos celebraciones pue-den seguir los protocolos establecidos anteriormente para la Misa dominical. Funerales, Bodas, Quinceañeras, Bautizos, Reconciliación: Estamos volviendo a los Protocolos de la Fase 1 al celebrar estos eventos. Le recomiendo que implemente estas directivas tan pronto como sea posible, pero a más tardar el lunes 30 de noviembre. Estoy planeando reunirme con el Comité COVID-19 antes del tercer domingo de Adviento para revisar estas directivas y determinar qué modificaciones podemos hacer para el resto de la temporada navideña. Mi esperanza es que al instituir lo anterior nos ayude a mitigar la propagación del virus, lo mantendrá seguro y saludable, y permitirá que todos tengamos una celebración de Adviento y Navidad significativa y alegre. The Christmas Angels Have Arrived “Angels” are children who face a bleak holiday season because one or both parents are incarcerated.
