The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, RCIA, is a process by which adults are fully initiated into the Catholic faith through the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. If you were never baptized or if you received Christian Baptism outside of the Catholic Church but now seek full communion with the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation, please contact us at (845) 782-8510 or by email, using the form below. We are offering the sessions on Sunday morning from 10:00 -11:30 and Monday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Sessions began October 3 and 4.

All Souls Day Novena of Masses Envelopes are available in the vestibule of the church for the All Souls Day Novena of Masses. This is a wonderful way to remember our deceased family members and friends. The envelopes will be placed on the altar on All Souls Day and those listed will be remembered at each Mass. The suggested donation is $10. Envelopes may be put in the collection basket at Mass or brought to the parish office by October 31.

For over 20 years we, the parishioners of Sacred Heart, have been participating in the Monroe CROP Hunger Walk which raises funds for hunger and disaster relief around the world. Due to the pandemic, the need is even greater than ever. While the official date of the walk is October 25, Walk Coordinator Fred Scheupfer noted that walkers can choose any day and time to walk the Millponds in Monroe – or any other site they choose since this year the CROP Hunger Walk will be virtual for safety sake. To register for the walk and to raise funds online go to Register for a CROP Hunger Walk (video): https://yutu.be/a0mfwOvh1QQ. It will take you through the process. Twenty-five percent of the funds raised are distributed to local food pantries. Only online donations can designate a particular charity to receive their funds. We recommend designating Catholic Relief Services (CRS) as the recipient of the funds we raise. This is a great service opportunity for Confirmation 1 and Confirmation 2 candidates. We still are in need of ushers for Masses. If you are interested in volunteering, please call the parish office. We especially need your help for the Saturday 5:30 pm Mass and the Sunday 6:00 pm Mass. _____________________________________________ If you would like to keep up to date on parish news, sign up for Sacred Heart’s Flocknotes/Email. Fill out the form below and drop it in the collection baskets during Mass on Sundays.

  • As Catholics in the United States, we annually we observe October as Respect Life Month. It is a time to focus on God’s precious gift of human life and our responsibility to care for, protect, and defend the lives of our brothers and sisters. This year’s theme, “Live the Gospel of Life,” was inspired by the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Pope John Paul II’s encyclical, The Gospel of Life. Pope John Paul’s masterfully articulated defense of the right to life for children in their mothers’ wombs, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and the marginalized is more relevant today than ever before. In November 2019, the U.S. bishops reaffirmed that “the threat of abortion remains our preeminent priority because it directly attacks life itself, because it takes place within the sanctuary of the family, and because of the number of lives destroyed.” While we noted not to “dismiss or ignore other serious threats to human life and dignity such as racism, the environmental crisis, poverty, and the death penalty,” we renewed our commitment to protect the most fundamental of all human rights – the right to live. Pope Francis has said that abortion is not primarily a Catholic or even a religious issue; it is first and foremost a human rights issue. May we strive to imitate Christ and follow in His footsteps, caring for the most vulnerable among us.

Excerpted from “Live the Gospel of Life, Respect Life Month Statement written by Most Rev. Joseph F. Naumann,

Chairman, USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities

Autumn Prayer O God of Creation, you have blessed us With the changing of the seasons. As we embrace these autumn months, May the earlier setting of the sun Remind us to take time to rest. May the crunch of the leaves Beneath our feet remind us Of the brevity of this earthly life. May the steam of our breath In the cool air remind us that it is You Who gives us Your breath of life. May the scurrying of the squirrels and The migration of the birds remind us That You call us to follow Your will. We praise You for Your goodness forever and ever. Amen.

October is also the month of the rosary. Every year during October, the Catholic Church asks the faithful to spend some time thinking about the Blessed Virgin Mary and praying a prayer closely associated with her - the rosary. For many, many centuries, the Church has taught that the rosary is one of the greatest ways to pray. While that is most definitely true, this year – wracked by pandemic and the accompanying isolation and worry of many – finding comfort and solace in the prayers of the rosary is more important than ever. While it may be easy to excuse ourselves for not praying the rosary because it is too time consuming or we are too easily distracted by the stresses of living with COVID-19, the graces one receives from reciting the rosary are too numerous not to set aside 15 minutes each day to recite those prayers.
