Pray for Camden OCTOBER 11, 2015 - 28TH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME 20TH SUNDAY OF PENTECOST Monday to Friday, at 7:40 AM at the Thea Bowman House, 418 Jasper Street, across from the Sacred Heart driveway. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS RCIA is the process by which people can join the Catholic Church. We extend an invitation to any adult or older teen who has expressed a serious interest in the Church, or who has not yet received all the Sacraments. If you would like information on joining this year's RCIA, contact the rectory or Helena Rafael-Cerquoni at (856) 275-1581 or email at [email protected]. DONALD ZARBATANY died on Thursday, October 8, 2015 here in Water- front South on Holcaine Street. Don attended Mass in Sacred Heart. He was a kind man. Eternal rest to him and sympathy to all who will miss him. STEWARDSHIP OF SACRED HEART Today, Ted Fox, who wonderfully tends to Sacred Heart’s stewardship, will speak to us. The most important reason to have Sacred Heart is God’s invitation to do the Eucharist, the Mass, as a community, every Sunday. Everyone in pew and on altar do it together, the liturgy that leads us to justice (do good for people). But, to keep your Sacred Heart going, we need together to sustain it. Sacred Heart is our home, it is the home of our hopes and the food for our salvation. Jesus told us: “Eat this Bread and you will live forever.” Like the home that is your address, the bills to sustain it, come whether you are there or not. The same is true of your Sacred Heart home. Also the diocese measure us by the amount of our Sunday offer- ings. May God enable us to do our best! NEXT SUNDAY A second collection will be taken next Sunday as we celebrate World Mission Sunday 2015: It’s Our World on Mission. This year we are invited to support the 1,150 of the youngest dioceses in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe. Please keep the Mis- sions in your prayers and please be generous in next Sunday’s collection for the Society of the Propagation on the Faith. Mission Sunday gives us the opportunity to “connect” with our world on mission, with those making the difference for the poor and marginalized half a world away. Mission is part of the “grammar” of faith, some- thing essential for those who listen to the voice of the Spirit who whispers “come” and “Go forth.” Those who follow Christ cannot fail to be missionaries…” Pope Francis 19TH ANNUAL HEARTS & HANDS Art Festival is being set up as we go to press. More next week! TODAY IS A HOLY DAY IN ROSSDUFF John Doyle, Michael’s father, died on October 11, 1967 – 48 years ago today! He was a very holy man. May he rest in peace! Margaret and Pat Doyle (RIP), Michael’s sister- in-law and brother, were married on October 11, 1961 – 54 years ago today. Sad for Margaret and all his family. May he rest in peace! May God console Margaret, his daughters and all the family in Ireland and here! Today is also the Feast Day of our new saint, John XXIII! St. John XXIII, pray for us! The man in the gospel must have had an inkling that keeping the command- ments was not enough, or else he never would have approached Jesus with his question about how to inherit eternal Life. In spite of his faithfulness in keeping God’s commandments and his being loved by Jesus, the man never- theless had a divided heart: “he went away sad, for he , for he had many possessions.” the man needed to turn his focus from earthly life to eternal Life, from possessions to single- heartedly following Jesus. Where is our heart? Living Liturgy 28th Sunday of Ordinary Time MARY ELIZABETH CLARK, SSJ was the 7th Annual Thomas Berry Lecturer last Saturday, October 3, 2015, the eve of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, in Sacred Heart Church, Camden, NJ. Sr. Mary Elizabeth Clark, SSJ challenged us to work in community to respond to climate change. A diverse crowd received specific suggestions for action on the personal level, the communal level and the social level. What is Sa- cred Heart doing to address climate change? Eve- ryone left inspired. Many thanks to CFET and Cathy Nevins who took the lead on this event. A million thanks to Cathy/Ted Fox, Jeannie/Bill Harden, Rosie/Jim Hally, Felicia Biles, Ben Hill, Bill Wisely, Sean Dougherty, Teresa Niedda, Dean Buttacavoli, the Assistant and Senior Farmers, the La Salle University students, Sharine Eliza, Will Stehl, Fr. Michael Doyle and, or course, Sr. Mary Elizabeth Clark. Look for news on a process to identify ways that Sacred Heart can respond to Sr. Clark’s, as well as to Pope Francis’ demand, that we care for the earth! We continue to rejoice in the richness and fullness of the harvest time, the holy time of gathering-in. At the end of this month, we will anoint the sick and the elderly among us. November will begin with the great feast of All the Saints and we will remember our beloved dead all through that month. If you, O God, should mark iniquities, who could stand? But with you is found forgive- ness, O God of Israel. Today’s Entrance Antiphon
