ReSeARCh AnD DeVeLOPMenTSafariland maintains one of the most advanced armor-testing laboratoriesin the nation. Located in Ontario, California, our laboratory tests a varietyof products including ballistic, spike, edge blade, multi-threat andfragmentation resistant soft and hard armor. With the advent of theNIJ Standard-0101.06, Safariland has enhanced its laboratory facilities toinclude two full-length ranges that test against high-velocity handgun andrifle threats. It also features armor conditioning equipment and hard armorimpact and thermal testing equipment. The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) has recently introduced its latestguidelines for body armor, NIJ Standard-0101.06, Ballistic Resistance of BodyArmor (July 2008). This standard is a complete revision of the prior standards,including NIJ Standard-0101.04, Rev. A, Ballistic Resistance of Personal BodyArmor(June 2001), and NIJ 2005 Interim Requirements, Bullet-Resistance ofBody Armor(September 2005).

At Safariland, we closely followed the development of this standard andare prepared to meet and exceed it with an entire family of armor solutions that

continues our legacy of protection and comfort. The NIJ Standard-0101.06presents minimum performance requirements that will ensure body armormeets a certain level of performance and safety for the law-enforcementcommunity. Changes to the standard noted below, including new threats and newtest procedures, will result in improved protection against a wider range of threats.
