About Tashkent Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan and Central Asia's premiermetropolis, betrays little of its 2,000-year history as a crossroadsof ancient trade routes. The largest and one of the oldest cities of Central Asia, it is the economic heart of the region. Historically, Tashkent has remained active in the caravan trade betweenCentral Asia and Russia and gained new prosperity with theconstruction (1898) of the Trans-Caspian RR. It is also a majorcultural center, a rail and highway junction, and an important airterminal.

Tashkent or Toshkent, in the foothills of the Tian Shan mountainsis also spelled Dashkent. This modern city of 2.5 million peopleholds many attractions from imposing squares, monumentalarchitecture and fine museums, to the mud-brick maze of the oldUzbek town, autumn colors on dappled poplar lanes and thesweet spray of fountains. Tashkent is simply bursting withinteresting museums, ancient historical sites, lush parks, and adiverse selection of high-quality restaurants, nightclubs andshops.Tashkent is a city which is famous for its exceptionallyvaluable architectural heritage. There are many interestingmonuments which have been preserved from the Middle Ages aswell as modern buildings which combine the latest architecturalachievements with national style, local picturesque dcor andAsian architectural traditions. The modern section of the citycoexists with the old quarter (partly reconstructed), with itsnarrow, twisting streets, numerous mosques, and bazaars.

Present-day Tashkent is one of the most beautiful cities in Asia, and its architecture is unique; the hospitality and friendliness of Tashkent people is amazing. Tashkent lies right on the borderwith Kazakhstan and also is known as the main "gates of theOrient" on international air routes from India, Afghanistan,Pakistan, and China to Europe.

The average temperature in November is between 10C to 20C.Light winter clothing is therefore recommended.
