Ben and Meg like riding the bus to school . . . They watchthe clock to make sure they get to the bus stop on time.
SSAAFFEE SSAAMM SSAAYYSS......Be at your bus stop on time.
When they get to the corner, they say Hi, to theirfriends and stand away from the street. They are care-ful not to leave trash on the ground.
SSAAFFEE SSAAMM SSAAYYSS......Stay away from the street while waitingfor the bus.
SSAAFFEE SSAAMM SSAAYYSS......Politely form a line and use the handrailwhen entering or exiting the bus.
When they see their bus coming, Meg and Ben get in line.Once the bus stops, they wait their turn to walk up thesteps. While they hold the handrail, they say, GoodMorning, to Mrs. Lee, the bus driver. They go to theirseats quickly so they are ready when the bus starts moving.
They talk quietly so they can hear Mrs. Lee if she needsto tell them something. They keep their voices low soMrs. Lee can hear emergency vehicle sirens or thesounds of trains when the bus gets close to railroadcrossings. Meg reminds Ben to keep his book bag underhis seat so the aisle doesn t get cluttered. Meg keepsher lunch box on her lap.
SSAAFFEE SSAAMM SSAAYYSS......Sit quietly and keep the aisle of the bus clear.
Meg and Ben know what Mrs. Lee taught them aboutkeeping the aisles clear in case they need to get out the
emergency door.
SSAAFFEE SSAAMM SSAAYYSS......Only use the emergency door in an emergency.
SSAAFFEE SSAAMM SSAAYYSS......Always walk away from the bus so the bus driver can see you and you can see the bus driver.
When they get to school, Ben and Meg know cars must stopwhen the red lights on the bus are flashing. They hold thehandrail as they get off and look both ways before crossingthe street. Ben and Meg walk in front of the bus and wavegoodbye to Mrs. Lee.
SSAAFFEE SSAAMM SSAAYYSS......Never pick up items that were droppednear the bus. Ask the bus driver for help.
Once Meg s friend, Amy, dropped her book bag besidethe bus. Meg quickly went to tell Mrs. Lee while Benreminded Amy never to pick up things close to the bus.Always wait for an adult to help you, Amy, says Ben.
SparkyBen and Meg have a dognamed Sparky. Sparky isnot allowed to follow themto the bus stop. Follow thedots and then color hisspots brown.
