March 2007 Section 25.2 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act requires that employers “provide information, instruction, and supervision to a worker to protect the health and safety of the worker.” FALL PROTECTION: Training is mandatory for workers that may be exposed to a fall hazard. The fall hazard can be as little as 2.4 metres (8 feet). This includes guardrail installation. CONFINED SPACE ENTRY: Workers exposed to a confined space (see the Construction Regulation for the definition) must be trained before being allowed to enter the space. Examples of confined spaces include maintenance holes, tanks, and vaults. PROPANE: For torches, heaters, and other applications of propane you must be trained by a trainer registered with the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA). EXPLOSIVE ACTUATED TOOLS: Training on safe operation is mandatory. Refer to the manufacturer of the device for information on training. WHMIS: Training on the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is mandatory.
