Every morning as part of the assembly at SSC we encourage all to consciously activate their spiritual heart by participating with full focus on our light meditation. We are reminded every morning that “We are in the light, the light is within us. We are the light”.

The light is a metaphor for LOVE! To be reminded everyday that our true nature is LOVE, is to activate our highest self—the one within who takes into consideration not only personal good but the highest good for all.

Love is the ultimate gift of ourselves to others. When we stop giving we stop loving, when we stop loving we stop growing, and unless we grow we will never attain personal fulfilment. – Mother Theresa

I encourage all not only to think about generosity, (thought) and talk about generosity (word) but live it (deed)!

I thank all those families who have generously donated their time to the school, donated to support a family whose house was damaged by fire, encouraged their children to support our sponsorship of Scooter the dolphin with Dolphin Research Aust. and to participate with selfless, loving kindness in all our service clubs.

DANCE EISTEDDFOD

On Tuesday the 27th of August our dance group performed their dance routine ‘United through Dance’ at the Gold Coast Performing Arts Eisteddfod.

We competed against 16 other schools in our category. All students displayed many values leading up to the event and on the day such as: courage, persistence, compassion, kindness, sportsmanship, hard work and determination.

Mrs Hall and I are very proud of how they displayed these values and represented our school. It is with much excitement that we congratulate and celebrate their achievements. The dance group received ‘Honours’ for all of their efforts and enthusiasm for dance.

I am very much looking forward to working with the students next year on a new and exciting dance piece.

Well Done.

BOOK FAIR

This year our Book Fair was another success thanks to the generosity of our school community. Our total sales reached just under $2000. With our Scholastic rewards, we will be able to purchase much needed books and teaching resources.

Thanks to all the volunteers that gave up their time during our Book Fair.

TERM 3 WEEK 6 2019

NCIS ATHLETICS On Tuesday the 20th of August, 20 students from the Sathya Sai College Primary Campus travelled to Coffs Harbour to compete at the NCIS Athletics Carnival. It was a wonderful sunny day, perfect conditions for competing against the best athletes from Independent Schools across the NSW North Coast.

It always makes me very proud to see Sathya Sai College students compete at events such as these, and this year was no exception. The students did a wonderful job of representing the school, showing courage, good sportsmanship, determination and perseverance in what is a very tough competition. All the students approached the day with positivity and thoroughly enjoyed the carnival atmosphere.

Special congratulations go to the following students for the special success in their events:

• Xavier Clow 3rd place in 800m• Phoenix Cook-Holler 5th place in High Jump • Fianaid Ives 3rd place in 100m• Ned Serné 4th place in Shot Put• Dustin Townsend 3rd place in 100m• Sunny Townsend 2nd place in 100m• Clareese White 4th place in High Jump and Long Jump

Congratulations to these students and to the whole Sathya Sai College Athletics Team for a wonderful day of Athletics.

Last but not least, I want to pass on a HUGE thank you to the amazing parents who drove these athletes all the way to Coffs Harbour and back. The students and I greatly appreciate your help in getting athletes to this event.

TERM 3 WEEK 6 2019

SCIENCE WEEK

Science Week was a super exciting week in our school. The classroom was transformed into a “Scinema”. We watched an informative short film about where space begins, followed by a values film about how a young Canadian woman overcame great disappointment, with resilience and determination, to now work on designing and building the Mars Rover.

The junior school were set a mission to turn the Bluebots into rockets and then code them to fly to the moon and back. The senior students had a chance to explore the ‘Apollo Moon Shot’ App, which resulted in the Apollo 11 being launched from the top of people’s heads through the use of augmented reality technology. The children were also able to walk through a portal onto the moon’s surface and attempt to land the lunar module on the moon.

Lots of fun and engaged learning with new technology, allowed for Science Week to be truly, ‘Out of this World’.

FINGAL HEAD COASTCARE

Some Year 2 students and families were lucky enough to attend a very special program run by Kay and Peter Bolton, who are long serving volunteers with Fingal Head Coastcare. The program involved learning about how to protect the natural environment through revegetation of native coastal plant species.

The students had great fun planting new trees in the ‘Sathya Sai Forest’ where students from previous years have also planted trees. It is great to see students from our school having such a positive impact on our local natural environment.

POSITIVE PARENTING TIP #2 By Glen Gerreyn

I work with teenagers every day and one of the things that saddens me most is how many say they have never heard a parent say they are proud of them or that they love them. It seems easier to encourage and love a baby, toddler, child or even pre-teen. With all the emotional outbursts, screaming and hormonal rage of a teenager, compliments may not come as easy.

However, as parents it is essential that we praise even the slightest hint of thebehaviours we want to see flourish in our children. Some parents have said tome, “If I praise them too often, it won’t mean much.” But the reality is that much of the world is insecure and hell bent on ridiculing, mocking and taunting your teenager – especially in the vortex of social media. So, before they go out and face the world, make sure their cup is filled to overflowing at home with as much encouragement, hope and optimism that you can pour in. Keep talking with your children about EVERYTHING. Make no conversation off limits so when the time does come for them to bring some shocking news to you, they know you will listen without losing it! When teenagers feel the support from a loving parent, they know they can withstand the taunts from others and press on.

T h e b e s t m e t h o d o f e n c o u r a g e m e n t i s t o applaud the process rather than the outcome: honour the means, not just the trophy. Celebrate the early mornings and the late n igh ts and how they listened to their coach/teacher and made the necessary sacrifices to achieve an outcome.

3/4C understands that displaying generosity with words and actions sends a ripple of love out into

the world.

We displayed the value this week after Maddie Scanlon noticed a homeless man sitting outside

Sunnyside Mall each morning. She reported to the class that he looked lonely and cold. Maddie,

Ameisha and Miles then decided to create a giving box, to collect donations and ultimately help this

member of our community.

We all contributed to a great cause and intend upon making sure that this man receives something

which will help bring a smile to his face.
