Arlington Catholic High School and Saint Agnes School began the school year as a united school! Faculties and Staffs celebrated together with Father Flatley and Father Graham at an opening Mass on Wednesday, August 30. What a great beginning to a journey. We know that God will help us make two strong schools one great Catholic School. May God bless us as we move ahead!

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist Parishioners are invited to be trained as

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist at Mass. It is a wonderful way to serve our Parish. The training will take

place this Wednesday, September 20 , in the upper Church, 7:00-8:00 PM, with Father Flatley. You will be able to ask questions and request the Masses that you would like to serve; for example you could request the noon Mass for the first and third Sunday of each month. The monthly schedule is revised yearly. No commitments for Easter or Christmas, or July and August. Please email [email protected] to confirm your attendance or if you have any questions.

Ministers of the Eucharist to the homebound are needed to serve our Parish family members who are unable to attend Mass. If you are able to assist with this important ministry, please email: [email protected]. Thank you for your service.

Catechetical Sunday We take this opportunity to salute the parents, catechists and Religious Education staff, who give of themselves so generously that our children may learn and love their faith. May the Lord Jesus reward your generosity.

Meet the Bishop On Thursday, October 12, 7-8:30 PM, Saint Agnes Parish will host an evening with Bishop Mark O’Connell. All are welcome. If you know anyone, family or friend, who has been away from the practice of their faith, we encourage you to invite them to this meeting. This is an opportunity to ask the Bishop questions on any topic. The evening with the Bishop will be held in the upper Church. If you have questions, contact Fr. Jack Graham: 781-648-0220.

The Knights of Columbus have a monument to remember unborn children at their location on Winslow Street. Please visit this monument and pray for abortion victims, their parents and for an end to abortion.

Thanks to Father Graham, Bob Tosi and the Knights of Columbus for the Mass and Memorial Service on the National Day of Remembrance of Aborted Children, reminding us that the victims of abortion are not just statistics – they’re our brothers and sisters. 59 million American children have lost their lives to abortion since 1973.

Fall of 2017 Signature Collection : we need 64,750 certified signatures on a petition that states: “Nothing in this Constitution requires the public funding of abortion ”. Please contact Tom Harvey at 617-710-3616 or Renew MA Coalition at www.renewmacoalition.org to volunteer to help gather signatures. We hope to have 1,000 volunteers collect over 100,000 raw signatures to obtain 64,750 certified signatures.

Summer Projects : We’ve had a busy Summer! Now that the improvements are complete, a hearty thanks to our breathtakingly generous anonymous donor family , and to the contractors and their sub-contractors for generous and respectful service beyond their contracts: Architect Eric Ammondson , Dave Moran , Barry Munroe , Ed McDonald , Charlie Uglietto of Cubby Oil, Chris Doyon , The Pigott Company and Dave Sacca . Dave Moran was the guiding force, donating time and expertise. Thanks to Phil McDonald , Chuck Kunsman and Matt Schweitzer , and a special thanks to Father Jack for “riding herd” while I was on vacation. Father Flatley

On Friday September 8, 2017, the Saint Agnes Family Association hosted the first annual “Back to School Carnival”. The schoolyard was a sea of students, parents, and teachers, enjoying mini golf, corn hole games, raffles and a dunk tank! Food trucks with tempting specialty foods and ice cream rounded out this fantastic evening. A huge thank you to the SASFA volunteers who planned, executed and cleaned up from this memorable night. Special thanks to Stacey Kennedy, Kelly Mann, Mary Simpson and their families for their hard work.

Saint Agnes School has limited K1 ( Pre-K) openings for the 2017-2018 School year. Please contact Patricia Crane at 781-643-9031 X8305 or [email protected] for a tour.

The Boston Sock Exchange Ministry serves our homeless brothers and sisters on Boston Common. Please remember the homeless who would benefit from the seasonal clothing you no longer require. Please bring men’s and

women’s seasonally-appropriate clothing donations to the bin Church or to the Parish Center. We need men’s and women’s new athletic socks, hooded sweatshirts (especially in large and XL) and sweaters, t-shirts, baseball caps, rain ponchos, small folding umbrellas, quart- and gallon-sized zip-lock bags, small bottles of water, juice boxes, Gatorade, or any individual-sized non-carbonated drinks, mayonnaise, mustard, and granola bars. We could use travel-sized personal care products in bulk to make packages for distribution as well as any type of medium-sized canvas bags, duffle bags, or tote bags. Join us in the Parish Center on Friday, October 13, at 7:00 PM, to prepare sandwiches and to help organize donations. We need volunteers to help with distribution on Saturday, October 14, at 11:00 AM, on Boston Common. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. To volunteer, contact Sheila O’Brien: [email protected] .

Who are Vincentians? Vincentians are Catholic men and women, part of a Saint Vincent de Paul (SVdP) conference, dedicated to grow spiritually together through works of charity to those in need. Two members visit families, listen to them and assist as we can

with finances, assistance, referrals and, most importantly, prayerful support. Vincentian ministry is a means for acquiring holiness, attending to the needy and suffering, ministering to Jesus Christ.

Saint Agnes Conference meets monthly, prays Communion and Rosary Services, Vincentian Masses, while collaborating with area safety-net resources. We support the Arlington Food Pantry and Saint Agnes Sock Exchange Ministry. SVdP helps with the annual Mass of Anointing, holiday meals and clothing drives. Thanks to parishioners who faithfully donate to our SVdP “Poor Boxes” so that we can assist others in need.

If you find yourself in need, call Saint Agnes Parish Office. A Vincentian team will call to schedule a home visit. If you are being called to serve as a Vincentian, or to learn more, please call Bob Tosi at 857-998-0446. Because of the sensitive and confidential nature of our service, we are careful in accepting new members to our conference. May God continue to bless us all.

Prayer Line - If you are in need of prayers, call the healing and restoration prayer line at 617-442-3938 (located at Mission Church, 1545 Tremont Street, Boston). Healing service is the last Sunday of the month at 2:00 PM.

Cardinal Seán has directed that Saint Agnes and Saint Camillus Parishes will begin as a collaborative in June of next year, 2018. A collaborative is a structure within which several distinct parishes cooperate, to combine resources such as priests, staff and finances, to put toward our global effort of evangelization. Within the collaborative, our two parishes will begin this collaboration by sharing a pastor. We will share parochial vicars and key staff members. It is likely that the priests will live together in one rectory. The parishes will not combine bank accounts. Our offertories, and sacramental records, and capital needs will all be tracked separately.

Celebration of the Priesthood : Please join us for the annual dinner in Celebration of the Priesthood, September 28, 2017, Seaport World Trade Center, guest speaker Roma Downey: http://clergytrust.org
