November 1, 2015

…”All the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They prostrated themselves before the throne, worshiped God, and

exclaimed: “Amen. Blessing and glory, wisdom and thanksgiving, honor, power, and might be to our God forever and ever. Amen.” The Book of Revelation gives us a compelling image of the glory of heaven with the faithful departed and our loved ones gathered around the throne of the Lord. This scripture gives us a glimpse of the glory of heaven and the thanksgiving that will flow from our lips in praise and thanks to God. As we celebrate the Feast of All Saints and All Souls, this scripture gives us a reminder of why we should work, pray, and yearn for the fullness of life in heaven. It also gives us a moment to remember and give thanks to God for our loved ones who are singing the praises of God forever in heaven.

…This weekend we invite you to remember your loved ones who were called home to the Lord over this past year. We will also gather on Monday, the Feast of All Souls (November 2), with the families of those who have lost a loved one this past year, to remember and commend to God’s care our loved ones. Many thanks to our Good Sams, along with those who work so hard in our bereavement programs, for coordinating this special annual celebration. We are blessed with very strong programs to help bring comfort and healing to those who grieve the loss of a loved one.

...Many thanks to Tom Knapp, Jim Nowak and Bob Howski, along with our Building and Grounds team, who helped install the ‘shadow box’ in our Church for the month of November. It contains the Books of Remembrance with hundreds and hundreds of names of our loved ones called home to the Lord. Throughout the month of November, it will also contain a candle of remembrance with the names of those whose funerals we celebrated this past year at Saint Ambrose. It’s a beautiful way to help all of us remember the promise of heaven, and the hope that one day all of us will be united together again as the family of God in heaven.

…This Wednesday, all of our faithful Busy Bees are coming together for their annual luncheon in the Mother Teresa room. It

will be a time to share friendship, a good lunch, and especially to offer great words of thanks to Tony and Felicia Ragazzo. The two of them have really built the Busy Bee Ministry for our parish. They make sure all the bulletins are stuffed, envelopes are stamped and sealed, along with a thousand other small projects that happen week in and out for our parish community. Tony and Felicia are ‘retiring’ as the head bees!!! I am so very grateful for their good spirit, great efforts, and faithful service to our parish community. They have stirred up great energy and efforts for the good of Saint Ambrose. May God bless them for their faithful service to the Lord.

…Mrs. Mitchell, our Littlest Angels PreSchool director, shared the news that a few weeks ago our PreSchool PTU had their annual Angel Dash – a great family event – which raised about $4,500 for our PreSchool program. It will allow her and the team to have the best resources to take care of all of our Littlest Angels. BTW….we had such a great enrollment for our PreSchool that we had to open a third class for our four year old angels!!! Praise be God. Open House for Saint Ambrose School and Littlest Angels PreSchool is set for Sunday, November 15 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

…Many, many thanks to all who have already responded to the article in the Annual Report about our newly ordained priest Father Rob Ramser. Long story short, Father Rob cleaned out the sacristy this summer and noticed that our parish did not have a matching set of vestments for the priests and deacons to wear for big celebrations (Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, etc). The response has been wonderful – no surprise. So many have already offered to support a vestment in memory of one of their loved ones. If you would like more information, please contact Father Rob at 330.460.7311 or [email protected].

…This past Tuesday all the priests of the Diocese gathered together for a day-long session on the challenges facing the Church as we prepare to deal with the reality that we will see about two-third of all priests in active ministry in the Diocese retire or pass on to the Lord over the next fifteen years. Quite the challenge. It’s also a graced opportunity to discuss how we can best serve the Church and God’s people. There were no answers but lots of good questions raised, along with a commitment to continue the conversation and planning over the year to come.

…A key part to addressing the concerns and needs of our parish and the local church is to get serious about promoting and encouraging vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated life. So many commented how much you appreciated Jim Cosgrove’s talk at the Masses last weekend. He is in his fourth year of Saint Mary Seminary. He challenged all of us to ‘ask’ and ‘encourage’ our young people to consider God’s call to a life of service to the Church. I know that the main reason I entered the seminary was because people in my parish kept asking me to consider the seminary and priesthood. Our parish is filled with great young people. We need to encourage and invite them to consider Gods’ call. Everyone needs to ask someone!!! It will make all the difference.

…This coming Tuesday is Election Day. Please take some time to prayerfully reflect on the important decisions that face us at the ballot box. I would ask you to take a few minutes to read and reflect on Bishop Lennon’s letter in today’s bulletin about Issue #3. Our civic and community leaders, along with our Bishop, are trying to help us understand the dangerous impact of legalizing marijuana. They encourage us to read, reflect, and vote NO to Issue #3.

…Father Leo is coming back to Saint Ambrose next week for four inspiring days. See today’s bulletin for all the details about our Fall Mission. He cooks and stirs up great food for spiritual thought for all of us. Mark your calendar and make plans to join us for “Grace Before Meals” at our Fall Mission.

…BINGO helps support some of the special things we do for our parish community. It helps us keep up on our parish campus (like the new skylights for the Church to stop the non-stop leaking for $10,000). We need a few new helpers for our Friday night Bingo game. We promise all the training. One Friday a month for a few hours can make all the difference for our parish. Interested? Willing to give it a try?? Let me know. You would be an ‘angel’ beyond words.

…Special prayers as we celebrate All Saints and All Souls Day. We remember all of our loved ones called home to the Lord. We pray for all who mourn the loss of family and friends.

Spiritual LifeTime - Talents - Treasures

Family of GodThe Prevost FamilyRobert and Janice Prevost were married at Saint Andrew’s and will celebrate 44 years of Marriage on November 13th. You most likely see them at the 9:00 am Mass on Sundays, occasionally with one of their grandchildren. They are always here with a smile.

Robert and Janice are blessed in having four adult sons: Brian, Tim, Joshua and Christopher. Janice volunteers calling our seniors monthly on their birthdays, and she is also part of our parish Prayer Shawl Ministry.

Bob currently serves as Commander of the Veterans of American Legion Post 234. He volunteers much of his time raising money and serving our veterans in many ways. For those playing bingo here on Friday’s or attending the summer festival, they will hear Bob shouting out “Instants- Instants buy your instants.” Both are filled with such goodness and share their warmth and love – please lift them up by name as God continues to bless them not only on their 44th, but for years to come.

Stewardship QuiltA Great Family EndeavorWe have extended the deadline for turning in the quilt blocks. You still have time to pick one up if you haven’t already done so. As a Family of God, we are asking each family to decorate a quilt block with the family name and a decoration of what the Church means to your family. Stop by the Parish Life Center Office to get your kit and also to see an example of what the quilt will look like when the Quilting Ministry is finished assembling the blocks together.

From CaitlinMessage

Please save the date, November 21 from 10:00 am—5:30 pm, for this awesome retreat experience for your young teen!

“Life with Christ is an Awesome Adventure” is the theme and a group of college students from Franciscan University of Steubenville’s SENT Retreat team will lead this faith-filled, engaging day! Last year, over 100 teens participated and were energized in their faith life. Make sure your teen comes this year! All Junior High PSR families will be mailed an invitation with more information this week.

A couple weeks ago we had our first retreat of the year, a Confirmation Retreat for our 9th graders preparing to be confirmed in February.

Forty-six of our Confirmandi were able to join us for a great weekend away, a chance to grow closer to Christ, learn more about our faith, build stronger friendships, and have fun with one another.

Throughout the year, we have a variety of retreat opportunities for our High School students so that everyone has a chance to participate. Retreats are truly a great experience regardless of where you are at in your faith life, and we strongly encourage all of our high school students to participate in at least one retreat throughout the year.

Coming up on November 20-22, we have our third annual Metanoia retreat. In the past two years, this retreat has been very popular with high school students and a large part of the retreat is student-run, giving students the opportunity to learn from one another and journey together.

Looking even further ahead, in January, we have our annual trip to Washington DC to participate in the March for Life, and in February, we will be hosting a Food Fast Retreat at Saint Ambrose. For more information on these and other special events, visit our website www.myFIAT.us, give me a call at 330.460.7387, or email me at [email protected] – we hope to see you at a retreat soon!

Littlest Angels Preschool Dad’s Day OutOn Saturday, October 17th, 160 preschoolers, grandpas, uncles and dads gathered for Dad’s Day Out hosted by the Littlest Angels Preschool staff. This event, which had a fun sports theme, games, crafts and a concession stand honored the men in the preschool children’s lives. A special blessing and story was shared with all.

Grade 4 Field Trip to Hale Farm & VillageThe fourth-graders spent a gorgeous fall day going on an exciting field trip to Hale Farm and Village. Here they learned what life was like for Ohio settlers in the 1800s. The students had the opportunity to explore many of the village’s features, and they particularly enjoyed visiting the glassblower, school teacher and blacksmith. Since it was the village’s annual Fall Harvest, the kids also learned how the settlers made apple cider and apple butter, and they even tried a few tasty samples. Hopefully it will be a field trip they never forget!

Donuts with DadThank you to all the moms who volunteered to make this year’s Donuts with Dad a huge success! The children and their dads had a great start to their Friday morning having breakfast at school together. This annual school PTU tradition is one of the first events of the school year and a great opportunity to reflect on how important dads are to our children!
