TESTIGOS

Saint Andrew Catholic Church

June 23, 2017 Most Reverend John E. Stowe, OFM Conv. The Catholic Center 1310 West Main Street Lexington, Kentucky 40508 Dear Bishop John, Christ’s Peace!

You asked for an update within six months on the use of our tabernacle in the Eucharistic chapel in the bell tower. The arrangement you approved in your letter to me of March 6, 2017 is working very well. The people are most grateful, and have come to me to tell me so.

Steve Trimble, husband of our business manager Mary Jane Trimble, designed, built and donated a beautiful pedestal on which the tabernacle is mounted. See photo below.

In addition to giving you this update, I am writing now to share with you an idea I have been entertaining to switch out the traditional tabernacle tower in the main church (See photo below), restoring it to its original and intended place in the bellower where it was placed by design in 2001 when this church building opened. (No doubt you have heard the story of how this tower was moved as well as the circumstances surrounding it.)

Now that the Trimble pedestal has turned out to be so beautiful a work of art, I think it aesthetically worthy of being placed in the main church sanctuary in the same spot where the tabernacle tower resides at present. The original tabernacle tower, Gothic in style, would be more appropriately restored to the more traditional Eucharistic chapel in the bell tower with its more traditional stained-glass. In this way, both spaces would assume coherent design schemes, each in their own right. I will present this proposal to the Parish Pastoral Council only if I first receive permission from you for this move.

Thank you for entertaining this proposal on behalf of the people of Saint Andrew Church.

With every prayer and good wish,

Rev. Albert J. DeGiacomo, Ph.D. Pastor
