GUIDELINES - We are pleased to announce the reopening of our Church, which has been closed since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our first Divine Liturgy will take place on Sunday August 9, as part of a Phase 1 limited capacity re-opening plan approved by our Hierarchs. CDC guidelines for church sanitation, signage, and social distancing will be adhered to. Those with pre-existing health issues, particularly over age 65, are advised to remain at home. We request that you abide by the following mandatory guidelines for a safe and organized re-opening. Maintaining Safe Numbers

1. A maximum of 25 worshippers will be allowed to attend Liturgy. Attendance will be on a first-come, first-serve basis; however, to guarantee a space, you may register in advance by contacting Jane Yavarow via email ([email protected]) or by phone/text (508-397-2779) by 6:00PM Saturday. Provide your name and the number of worshipers attending. If exhibiting any signs of illness, we ask that you stay home.

What to Expect During Liturgy 2. Upon arrival, please proceed to the main church doors. They will be the only

point of entry and will be locked until 9:45AM. Do not attempt to enter from the hall or side doors (the side doors will be kept open during services for ventilation purposes).

3. A greeter will record your contact information and take your temperature with a non-contact thermometer. You will not be permitted to enter if you have been exposed to anyone with COVID-19 within the last two weeks or if you have any symptoms.

4. Masks are mandatory. The greeter may refuse to admit you if you will not wear one unless there is a physical/medical reason (a doctor’s note is required for confirmation). Children between ages 2 – 5 will wear masks under the guidance of their parents.

5. Hand sanitizer will be available and must be used prior to entering the church.

6. Candles will be available for purchase. However, change cannot be made. Please bring exact amounts ($1 for small candles, $2 for larger size).

7. All bibles and prayer books have been removed from pews (you may bring your own).

8. Attendees who are not part of the same immediate household must be seated at least six feet apart (a greeter will assist). Families from the same household may sit together.

9. Icons may be venerated by making the sign of the cross and bowing only (no contact).

10. There will be no choir or communal singing. The Cantor will sing responses in front of the church, facing away from the pews.

11. Any prayer requests should be sent to Fr. Roman via text, email, or phone. Any handwritten submissions will be honored the following week.

12. The collection basket will be placed on a small table near the tetrapod.

13. Bulletins will be distributed electronically.

14. If prosphora is available, pieces will be individually wrapped and distributed by a gloved volunteer.

15. Restrooms will be open with one person allowed at one time. If a line forms, social distancing must be observed. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Sacraments 16. As directed by the Hierarchs, Holy Communion will not be distributed until

parishioners have gone to Confession. Anyone wishing to go to confession must contact Fr. Roman to make an appointment (617-780-4968).

Page 4: SAINT ANDREW THE FIRST CALLED APOSTLE UKRAINIAN … · 2020-07-28 · SAINT ANDREW THE FIRST CALLED APOSTLE UKRAINIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH OF BOSTON 24 ORCHARDHILL ROAD, JAMAICA PLAIN,

17. During the Liturgy, Communicants who have gone to confession shall maintain social distance and approach the chalice with mask on. Once there, the Communicant will lower his/her mask, tilt head up, and open mouth wide. Fr. Roman will then deposit the Eucharist into the mouth. Communicants should not touch the cloth or kiss the chalice.

After the Service 18. There will be no coffee hour or congregating in the parish hall. Please depart

promptly.

19. If after attending Liturgy, you test positive for COVID-19, please contact Jane Yavarow. Those in attendance will be notified and must quarantine for two weeks.

We appreciate your cooperation and patience during this Phase-1 re-opening. These guidelines are subject to change as required. Please contact Parish President Jane Yavarow, Fr. Roman, or any parish board member with any questions or concerns. We will include a Ukrainian translation next week.
