CAPABLE BLOOD – We are sponsoring an American
Red Cross Blood Drive in Griffin Hall this Wednesday
from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. As the U.S. Surgeon
General says, “Social distancing does not have to mean
social disengagement.
See https://www.redcrossblood.org/ or call 1-800RED
CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to register.
CAPABLE CREATION – Through the annual
celebration of the Ascension we learn that not only
human beings but also all creation has an eternal and
divine destiny. Jesus’ entry into the Trinity is the
beginning of all creation being divinized—the “new
heaven and a new earth” foretold in the book of
Revelation (21:1). And so this week we are marking the
5th anniversary of Laudato Sí: On Caring for Our
Common Home. Pope Francis is challenging and
encouraging us to look at the steps we have taken in the
last 5 years to protect our common home and to come up
with the steps to help the world’s poor who are the most
victimized by our rampant “throw away culture”. For
more visit laudatosiweek.org
CAPABLE WITNESSES – This
Thursday (May 21) will be the
memorials both of Blessed Franz
Jaegerstadder (d. 1943) and also of the
Trappists of Algeria (d. 1996). All of
these “Blesseds” were killed “in hatred of
the faith” and their stories are worth
learning anytime but perhaps more so
now during our quarantine. The film Of Gods and Men
is about the monks in Algeria and the very recent film A
Hidden Life is about Blessed Franz and his wife Fani.
This Thursday, the 40th day after
Easter, our Tradition will celebrate
the Solemnity of the Ascension of
the Lord. I hope you can participate
in our livestreamed Vigil Mass of the
Ascension this Wednesday at 6:30 PM. This occasion
brings to my mind the notion of stewardship.
As I return year after year to this great feast, more and
more I am caught up in wonder and awe. The Second
Person of the Trinity (God the Son; God the Word;
Creator and not a part of creation) enters into creation
(!!!???). By the power of the Holy Spirit and the
cooperation of the teenager Mary, Creator and creation
become one in the person Jesus. Let’s fast forward
thirty three years….
Having completed the mission the Father gave him to
accomplish, Jesus ascends, returns into the Trinity but
now, a human being, a human body (resurrected body
but still a human material body) enters into God!
Creation enters into the Creator! Human beings and all
of creation are reunited with God and original goodness,
original harmony is restored. Flesh and blood, through
Grace, are capable of sharing in eternity and divinity.
What a destiny! What a challenge! The poem “Capable
Flesh” by Scott Cairns comes to mind:
The tender flesh itself
will be found one day
--quite surprisingly--
to be capable of receiving,
and yes, full
capable of embracing
the searing energies of God.
Go figure. Fear not.
For even at its beginning
the humble clay received
God's art, whereby
one part became the eye,
another the ear, and yet
another this impetuous hand.
Therefore, the flesh
is not to be excluded
from the wisdom and the power
that now and ever animates
all things. His life-giving
agency is made perfect,
we are told, in weakness--
made perfect in the flesh.

UPCOMING EVENTS
As the June 2 primary approaches,
we are all reminded of the
importance of performing our civic
duty by voting. This year, the State of
Pennsylvania is encouraging people
to vote safely by mail. To start the
process of signing up for “Vote by
Mail” go to www.votespa.com and follow the
directions. If you do not have access to the Internet,
you can also get a paper application for “Vote by Mail”
by calling the PA Department of State at 1-877-868-
3772.

Memorial Day Mass – We will livestream Mass from
chapel at 9:00 AM on Memorial Day (May 25).
“GIVING HOPE TO ALL”
– is the theme of the 2020

This annual appeal is our main corporate effort as the
Body of Christ in the five counties of the Archdiocese to
serve hundreds of thousands of our neighbors in need
of material and social assistance.

St. Ann Food Pantry - The pantry is ready to open,
thanks to St. Ann’s! The St. Ann’s food pantry will be
open on Saturday, May 16, starting at 1 p.m. with
curbside pickup available in the parking lot behind the
church. We are deeply grateful for the many donations
of food, products, and cash contributions in recent weeks.
This has been an awe-inspiring display of the generosity
and heart of our parishioners. Thank you so much – and
know that this has allowed us to be ready to meet the
demand and open our doors this Saturday.
For future pantry days, we would gratefully continue to
accept monetary contributions (directed to St. Ann Parish
earmarked for the “Food Pantry”), which allow us to do
targeted shopping, or donations of top items (dropped off
on the front porch of the parish office). These items
include: paper towels, cooking oil, juice, bagged (dry) black
beans, white rice, pancake mix & syrup, cereal, juice, toilet
paper, laundry detergent, diapers.
For information contact Michelle Giffroy-Rossi (610-283-
1515) or Jack McKeon (610-283-1311)
Aid For Friends – Caring For Friends - Caring for
Friends (formerly Aid for Friends) is a wonderfully simple
program connecting meal providers with those suffering
from food insecurity. Our Caring For Friends freezer will
be available as it always had been in the back room of 602
S. Main Street on Saturdays from 4:00 to 6:00 PM and on
Sundays from 7:00 AM through 1:00 PM. For information
contact Kate Commiskey at call (610) 933-3814 or
PACS - Please consider supporting Phoenixville Area
Community Services (PACS), our local food pantry as they
are in great need of assistance. For more information
contact [email protected] or phone 610)
933-1105. To volunteer with PACS go here: https://
www.pacsphx.org/become-a-volunteer/
MEALS FOR SENIORS – Shelf-stable meals for Seniors
(age 60+) are available for home delivery through the
Phoenixville Senior Center (153 Church ST). You can stop
delivery anytime but it is suggested that you consider
storing some meals for possible future food shortage.
For more information contact Joann McCracken
at 484-262-9127 or at
Easy To Do Good - “Be communities where it is easy to
do good.” These words of Peter Maurin come to mind
especially during the challenges of Covid-19 when our town
has so many ways for us both to give and to receive help,
such as: We are blessed to have The Senior Center, Orion,
the Clinic, Alianzas and the meals at St. Peter’s Episcopal
Church. Additionally we are blessed through our shelters:
St. Mary’s, Good Samaritan, The House and A Baby’s
Breath.
