It has been said that it doesn't really matter what we do as long as we have a relationship with Christ. This is true only as long as we work to maintain that relationship in our lives. It is true that the Word of God became flesh and invited us to enter into the same relationship with him that we could have with any other person. With that being true, it also means that we must work to maintain that relationship, just as we would with any other person. I can look to another person and say that is my friend and we have a good relationship, but is that really true if I have not seen or even spoken to this person in years? Having a relationship with Christ begins with being in contact with him. It has to start with prayer. This should be a part of our daily routine. It does not have to be a long complicated process, but it should be something we do every day. Why is this so important? This is what being in a relationship is all about. No relationship we develop will ever last if we ignore the other person, or make trivial details in our lives more important than the people we care about. Imagine a man refusing to spend time with his wife or even speak to her and then saying this is ok because they love each other and have a good relationship. How long will that last? Jesus will always walk with us in our lives and dwell in our hearts whenever we invite him. At the same time, he is extending invitations to us. How often do we accept his invitations? He gave his life to set us free from our bondage to sin. Every time we come to Mass we are sharing in that sacrifice that purchased our salvation. How can we expect to build our relationship with Christ while refusing this invitation? All of the sacraments are gifts freely given by Christ. They are opportunities for us encounter power of the Holy Spirit in our lives. What kind of relationship will we have if we say we don't need these gifts or simply make other things more important? Yes, it has been said that we can do anything with our lives as long as we have a relationship with Christ. St. Augustine wrote, "love God, and then do as you will." He did not mean that I am free to do whatever I want with my life as long as I say I love God. What he meant was if I truly love God as he loves me, then my love for him will guide my will. If I truly love God then doing what I want, and doing what God desires from me will become the same thing.

A Message from Father Chris…

I'm going to conclude my discussion on having a relationship with Jesus Christ this week. Actually, I'm sure this won't really conclude, because I will no doubt be coming back to this issue some time in the future. It is an important issue that we need to continue discussing. It has been said that it doesn't really matter what we do as long as we have a relationship with Christ. This is true only as long as we work to maintain that relationship in our lives. Having a relationship with Christ begins with being in contact with him. It has to start with prayer. This should be a part of our daily routine. Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Every Life: Cherished, Chosen, Sent”

Respect Life Month—October 2018 “To the survivors of abuse and the families who have lost a

loved one to abuse, I am sorry. You are no longer alone.” Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo, President of the USCCB, Renews Commitment for Greater Effectiveness and Transparency in Disciplining Bishops

Please read today’s bulletin insert “Caring for Loved Ones

at Life’s End”. Surround them with love, support, and companionship that are “anchored in unconditional respect for their human dignity, beginning with respect for the inherent value of their lives” (To Live Each Day with Dignity,

USCCB). Stop by the Respect Life table in the commons to pick up free materials. Please join us in prayer, fasting, community outreach, and peaceful vigil (Fridays, Noon-4pm across from the Bristol Women’s Regional Center on West State Street) as we continue to pray for an end to abortion.

Christmas Giving: St. Anne’s will again provide Christmas gifts for those who otherwise would not receive Christmas presents. Please include details, such as favorite color and size. Thank you for helping make this a happy, blessed Christmas for so many.

This Thursday, Nov. 1, is the Solemnity of All Saints—a

HOLY DAY of OBLIGATION for Catholics. On All Saints Day we come together to rejoice in the men and

women, blest in the eyes of the Lord, who celebrate the

heavenly liturgy. Our Holy Day Masses this Thursday will be celebrated at 12:15 p.m. and 7 p.m. (Incense at 7 p.m.)

The Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed is celebrated by the Church on November 2. On All Souls Day we exercise the special charity of prayer for the repose of

the souls in purgatory and remember all our loved ones who have died. Please join us for this special Mass for All Souls this Friday, November 2, at 7 p.m. (Incense will be

used at this Mass.) We will pray especially for those whose funerals/burials were at Saint Anne’s this past year. There will also be a book in the commons where you can write the names of other (your friends/loved ones who have died this past year). After Mass there will be a bilingual blessing in the cemetery.
