SAINT ANNE’S CATHOLIC CHURCH BRISTOL, VIRGINIA May 21 , 2017 Remember St. Anne’s in your Will and Trusts As we continue our Easter season reflections on the meaning of Christ’s resurrection in our lives, we begin to hear more and more frequent mentions of the Spirit, in preparation for our coming Pentecost celebration. As we gather, let us pray for the coming of the Spirit every day into our lives, and for our openness to receiving that same Spirit. Readings for this week (May 22-27) Monday: Acts 16:11-15; John 15:26—16:4a Tuesday: Acts 16:22-34; John 16:5-11 Wednesday: Acts 17:15, 2—18:1; John 16:12-15 Thursday: Acts 18:1-8; John 16:16-20 Friday: Acts 18:9-18; John 16:20-23 Saturday: Acts 18:23-28; John 16:23b-28 Scripture Readings for next Sunday (Ascension of the Lord) Acts 1:1-11 Lord Jesus ascends into a cloud. Ephesians 1:17-23 Christ is the head of the church; where He is we are called to follow. Matthew 28:16-20 Jesus commands us to go and baptize. Next Sunday we hear a commandment and a reassurance from the ascending Christ: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations”, and “I am with you always.” We cannot do the first without the second. In ascending to heaven, it becomes possible for Jesus Christ to be with the Church always and everywhere, rather than in just one place and time. May our prayer be one of thanksgiving for this wonderful gift of His presence. PRAYERS REQUESTED We ask your prayers for Kimberly Cooper Wright, the daughter of Doug & Thalia Cooper , who died recently. Notes of sympathy may be sent to Doug & Thalia at 201 Lynfield Rd., Bristol, TN 37620. Your prayers are asked for Jean Privon, a former member of St. Anne’s parish, who died on April 28. Volunteers will be needed for: setting up the Brady Center, Sat., June 10 at 1 p.m.; preparing dinners by 6 p.m. (June 11-17) someone to stay 5:30-8:30p someone to stay overnight 8:30p-7a Friday night overnight 8:30p-9a Helpers to clean up Brady Center (Sunday, June 11—after the 10:30a Mass) Volunteer Sign-ups will be held in the commons next weekend (May 27/28 ). Family Promise also needs: cereal, snacks, coffee, tea, canned vegetables, etc. Donated food items should be brought in to the Commons the weekend of June 3/4 . Weekly Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament continues
on Tuesday, May 23, immediately after morning Mass
(approximately 9:15 a.m.) Give yourself the gift of
quiet time with our Lord in the midst of your busy
daily schedule.
Prayer Shawl members are reminded of our regularly
scheduled gathering this Wednesday, May 24 at
10:00 a.m. in the St. Vincent de Paul Center. New
members are always welcome to join us.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
Catechumens and Candidates will attend RCIA,
Wednesday, May 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the Great
Room.
Inquirers also meet Wednesday at 6:30 in the
Parish Office Conference Room. Please come to
the Great Room for opening prayer before going to
the Conference Room.
Mystagogy will meet in the School Conference
Room. Please check-in at the Great Room before
going downstairs.
RCIA Notes: As our Blessed Mother brings us to her
Son Jesus, it is our task also to bring others to the
Lord. Is there someone you can invite to explore the
Catholic faith — someone unbaptized, or baptized in a
non-Catholic Christian tradition? Perhaps you know a
