St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church

From Our Pastor, Fr. Matthew Zuberbueler De Nuestro Párroco, Padre Mateo Zuberbueler

Dear Friends, As we move into this New Year 2020, let me include you in some exciting things to come here at the parish. Everything we do should be about welcoming Jesus, the Lamb of God, into our lives and hearts—and helping others to do the same. If you take a look at the cornerstone of our church (near the office door entrance) you will see that it says “1970”. Our church was dedicated on March 21, 1970. Which means we will be celebrating a 50th Anniversary very soon! Please mark your calendars and plan to participate in these special events, and stay tuned for others to be added as we go: Saturday, March 21: 11:00 am Holy Mass to celebrate the Anniversary of the Dedication of the Church. We are invit-ing priests who have served here over the years to join us. A reception will follow the Mass. Sunday, March 22: 11:00 am Holy Mass with Bishop Bur-bidge. Monday, March 23: 7:00 pm Holy Mass with Rev. Monsignor John C. Cregan, celebrant and homilist. Monsignor Cre-gan, as a layman and officer in the U.S. Marines Corps, was a catechist in our parish before he entered the seminary and be-came a priest. Tuesday, March 24: 7:00 pm Mass with Rev. Jose Eugenio Hoyos, celebrant and homilist. March 24 is the Memor ial of Saint Oscar Romero. Fr. Hoyos, who has been a part of this parish for many years and served in many ways, will highlight the vibrant Hispanic presence in our parish family. Wednesday, March 25, Solemnity of the Annunciation: 7:00 pm Mass will follow our all-day Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. At this Mass we will consecrate the parish to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and ask Her intercession for our parish as we look forward to our next steps in responding to God’s call in our little part of His Church in the world. Please begin thinking of your best memories of the last 50 years. Contact me or Fr. Killian if you would like to be part of the accomplishment of these events (and/or others). With my prayers, Fr. Matthew Zuberbueler Pastor

P.S. I hope that every parishioner will take seriously the need we have to pray for and sacrifice for an end to abortion in our land and in the world. And for healing for the many people in need of healing in their lives because of its effects. Come to the March for Life this Friday or attend Mass for the cause, so fundamental to us as Catholic believers.

March for Life On Friday, January 24, people from all over the country will come together and march on the streets of Washington, DC in defense of the unborn. That day, St. Anthony will be providing a bus for those parishioners who wish to attend the March for Life. The bus will depart the par-ish parking lot at 11:00 am and return at 4:00 pm. Spaces are limited so we kindly ask that you sign up ASAP; the dona-tion is $10 per person. To sign up, either stop by the parish office or in the entry way after the Masses. Email [email protected] for more information.

Parish Office, Gift Store and School Facilities - Closed The parish office, gift store, and school facilities will be closed on Monday, January 20, due to the holiday. There will only be one Mass celebrated at 8:30 am in English.

2020 Bishop’s Lenten Appeal Begins!

In January, the mailing for the 2020 Bishop's Lenten Appeal (BLA) will be sent to all registered diocesan households. The theme for the 2020 BLA is “Steadfast in Faith and Joyful in Hope.” After reflecting upon the blessings that God has given you, please prayerfully consider making a pledge to this important appeal that funds many programs and ministries that serves thousands of people in our diocese. Together, through the BLA, let us renew our personal commitment to furthering the Lord's work in our diocese.

Second Collection—24-25 January There will be a second collection 24-25 January for the Church in Latin America. For many living in Latin America and the Caribbean, a rising secular culture, difficult rural ter-rain, and a shortage of ministers makes it difficult for people to practice their faith. Your donations fund catechesis, mar-riage and family life programs, and seminarian formation so people can grow closer to Christ.

For All Young Adults: The Word of God Pope Francis has dedicated the third Sunday of Ordinary Time as Word of God Sunday. Next Sunday, January 26, we will celebrate the holy Bible, God's living word. Ordinary Time is a phrase that describes a liturgical season. But, stop and remember that in ordinary time, no time is ordinary. Every day can be an extraordinary opportunity to make the most of your time by getting closer God. Why not plan to read the Word as a daily part of your life? Let Christ touch your life each day. Our Young Adult group is an opportunity to seek Christ alongside other young adults. Stay involved and dare to be active in a Catholic faith community just for young adults. Let the Lord can transform your heart; aspire to be a vessel of Christ's love. Young Adults meet the first and third Wednesdays of every month at 7:30 pm in room 4 at the parish. You can also visit our parish website for updates, www.stanthonyparish.org.

Stewardship Reflection

“Now the Lord has spoken who formed me as his serv-ant from the womb...”

ISAIAH 49:5

God have given each of us different gifts. In order for God's plan to work, you have to do what God is calling you to do and I have to do what God is calling me to do. And guess what? God has given each of us a different plan! So, stop comparing yourself to others. Don't let envy and jealousy enter your life. Be thankful for the gifts God has given you and generously share them with others.

FIAT Day of Recollection for High School Girls
