Step Into the Unknown This year, Brenda and I celebrate twelve years of marriage. There have been highs and lows over the years. We have lived at six different addresses. Happily, our current address is the longest of our marriage. Two cars, to kids, a mortgage, both at jobs we find meaningful while at times menial. We are surrounded by love even when it feels distant or disconnected. Through it all, the constant in our life together has been faith. Whenever there have been doubts, faith has buoyed us. Peter was not without faith. He had given up his family and business to follow Jesus, to learn what the future might hold. No doubt it was his faith that drove him. His zeal was what sometimes got the better of him. He must have held deep convictions and been passionate. He had not conquered all his fears. I find this incident of stepping out of the boat, of stepping into raging waters to be puzzling. Peter would have known well the waters of the Sea of Galilee. He was a fisherman; he must have been caught in one of the Sea’s infamous storms before. Then, however, the boat had been his comfort zone, his safety net. He did not yet trust Jesus like he trusted his faithful old boat. Peter’s insecurity seized him, and he began to sink. Do we trust the Lord is ready to catch us if we fall? Where have we placed our faith? How do others know we are people of faith? These may be questions to ponder in prayer this week. Maybe even think of these questions in light of our impending transition to a new pastor. What do we hold most dear? What really is St. Augustine Parish? Our faith impels us to step into the unknown. We are assured that in the unknown we are never alone. Always the still small voice of the Lord is calling to us, speaking gently, and beckoning us to have and keep faith. FAREWELL TO THE

MISSIONARIES OF THE PRECIOUS BLOOD

FROM ST AUGUSTINE CHURCH

&

FR DON’S 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF ORDINATION

A plaque will be presented to Saint Augustine Church by Very Reverend Jeffrey Kirch, CPPS, Provincial Director,

CPPS at this Mass. CPPS has served the parish since 1888. Sisters of the Precious Blood served from 1903-1978.

A Commemorative Booklet has been published to be a testi-monial to the memories of all the CPPS and Sisters of the

Precious Blood by a group of parishioners. Plus a testimonial to the last CPPS pastor, Fr Don.

Each family will be able to receive a Commemorative Book.

Father Don’s Farewell Mass

We know many of you have been wondering what is being planned for Father Don’s leaving. Several suggestions have been made, but after consulting with Father Don, his wish

is “I would prefer to have some sort of gathering after I've

moved. I could come back for a time in the afternoon at some

day, perhaps in September.” So, for now we are abandoning the idea of any type of reception before he leaves and will work on planning something at a later date, when we can hopefully get together without masks and social distanc-ing. It is our hope that he will be able to enjoy a gathering in his honor in a more relaxing time. Remember, if you haven’t already said goodbye to Father Don, you only have a few more weeks. Stay tuned to the bulletin for any plans.

A basket will be available at the mass on August 16 for those of you who would like to leave a card and/or a gift for Father Don.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!CASINO NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After lots of discussion, Knights of Columbus Council # 1881 has

decided to cancel its 2020 Casino Night that was rescheduled for

August 29. We are concerned about the health and safety of our

guests and our volunteers that make this event a great success

and the “Health and Safety Guidelines” the Indiana Gaming

Commission has put in place were going to be a challenge to

implement. We plan on holding the 2021 event in early April.

So if you purchased a ticket to this event, you will have three

options.

Roll your 2020 ticket money into a 2021 ticket

Turn your 2020 ticket money into a donation to help the Knights

of Columbus

Request a refund

The person that sold you your 2020 ticket will be contacting

you. If you have any specific questions, feel free to call

Marty Park at 219-863-1768.

Amen, I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. Matthew 17:20

In an attempt to keep my comments at the Graduation Mass

brief, I neglected to acknowledge several contributions and ac-

complishments by parishioner, Sarah Mahnesmith. Sarah was

the 2020 RCHS Valedictorian and Lily Scholarship Recipient. She

also served our parish as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucha-

rist, Lector, Alter Server, and Peer Minister. We wish Sarah the

best-of-luck and thank her for her many ministries at our

parish! Kris Dobson
