My Dear Parishioners,
As the summer quickly comes to an end, our minds get ready to return to study
and the pursuit of learning. Here at our par-
ish our own St. Katharine Drexel School
students will return this week and in a cou-
ple weeks the children who attend our CCD
will return to their Religious Education
classes.
But the search for knowledge and appreciation of our
Catholic faith is not just a thing for children. Learning must be a
lifelong pursuit if we are to deepen our personal relationship
with Jesus. Knowledge of God leads to love of God and love of
God leads to discipleship. We are always encouraging our pa-
rishioners to attend any one of our faith enrichment offerings,
such as the Bible Study and Discovering Christ series that are
among the many programs published in our bulletin.
One of the most important ways that we proclaim and
teach the Catholic faith here at St. Bede is through the Rite of
Christian Initiation, which we commonly refer to as the
"RCIA". The RCIA is the process by which an adult, who was
never baptized, or an adult who was baptized but never received
the other Sacraments or was baptized in another Christian de-
nomination, can become a Catholic.
This Thursday we are offering an RCIA Informational
Night so that if there is someone who may feel the time has
come to consider the possibility of becoming a Catholic, they
can find out what the process entails and how they can get
started. I used the words, "possibility of becoming", because
simply showing up for the information night or even attending
some of the RCIA sessions does not mean someone has com-
mitted themselves to becoming a Catholic. No, the RCIA is a
prayerful process, not only of learning about the faith, but per-
sonally discerning if becoming a Catholic is truly for you.
A few weeks ago, I sent letters of invitation to all the non-
Catholic spouses of our registered parishioners. If you know of
someone considering the possibility of becoming a Catholic,
please pass on this information to them and encourage them to
attend the information session. If they cannot attend this Thurs-
day evening at 7 p.m., or if they want further information, they
can either contact me, one of our priests or Carole Obrokta, our
Director of Religions Education. We already know of four or
five adults who have already expressed interest and who have
indicated that they will be attending. You will not be alone if
you come.
Let us all pray to the Holy Spirit that each of us, during
this coming year, will as the old Baltimore Catechism said:
"Come to know, love and serve God more deeply so as to be
happy with Him forever in Heaven." May God Bless you

Luke 14: 25-33
This Gospel is a challenging one. How can we hate
our father and mother, wife and children, brothers and
sisters in order to be a disciple? Is Jesus really asking
us to do this? Or is he challenging us to give up notions
and habits that we hold dear? Saint Paul, in his letter to
Philemon, challenges his friend to give up the notion of
slavery, at least regarding Onesimus. Is there some-
thing that you hold dear that Jesus is challenging you to
give up today?

St. Bede the Venerable

Dear Brothers and Sister:
I am writing to you in order to express my words of profound
gratitude on behalf of the people of Cameroon and My Bishop, Jean
Mbarga to say thank you dear brothers and sisters in Christ and most
especially to you Very Reverend John C. Marine for accepting the
Archdiocese of Yaoundé-Cameroon to participate in the Missionary
Cooperation plan in your remarkable, beautiful and lovely parish. It
was a very great experience to share the joy of the Gospel of our Lord
Jesus Christ and to also participate in God’s love by eating and drink-
ing His very Body and Blood.
The Christian Community of St. Bede is a very vibrant, engaged,
active, dynamic, generous, prayerful and very lively Christian com-
munity. I have been to many parishes before for mission appeals but
there has been none like St. Bede. In my little heart, St. Bede stands
out as the best parish especially because of the fraternal love that
exists between the pastors and his collaborators. I enjoyed the conver-
sations with the priests and parishioners, I enjoyed the dinner, the
beautiful liturgy, and the great welcome.
While there at St. Bede, I could also feel the joy and desire from
the Christian community and the priests to assist the poor kids,
woman, marginalized and less fortunate people in Cameroon. I was
deeply impressed by that and my heart was moved to tears of joy
when I saw how fast people responded to our appeal with love, com-
passion and kindness.
Thank you very much Very Reverend John C. Marine for making
all that possible and also for opening your heart to the people of Cam-
eroon to experience the universality, generosity and the beauty of
Catholicism.
Thanks also in a very special way to all the parishioners of St.
Bede for their time, generosity, donations and for their prayers for the
people of Cameroon. Whatever financial assistance we will receive
from St. Bede the Venerable, we will be able to send kids to school,
help orphans, give clean water to thousands of people, create opportu-
nities, give hope to the hopeless, put smiles on faces and our joined
and collective efforts will make a difference in the lives of the many
beneficiaries of your donations. I will personally say a rosary for St.
Bede’s parishioners and so will the Archdiocese of Yaounde.
Thank you all and may the God of peace and love bless each and
every one of you. Let us never forget to be happy in all circumstances
of our lives. Yours faithful Brother Priest,
Rev. Fr. Herve Mathieu Mboudou Abina

Dear Parishioners,
Summer is almost over. So many commer-cials are now on TV about "back to school" sup-plies and clothing. Where did all that time go? We are also in gear for the upcoming 2016 - 2017 catechetical year. All of our catechists and aides are in place. We have a wonderful team of faith-filled volunteers who will be recognized along with the St. Katharine Drexel Catholic School teachers on Cate-chetical Sunday, September 18th at the 11:00 a.m. Mass. The Cate-chetical Theme for this year is: "Prayer - The Faith Prayed." Catechet-ical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith. We are in need of adults to serve as substitute catechists, hall monitors and parking lot attendants during all our CCD sessions: Sunday (9:15 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.), Monday Afternoon (4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.) and Monday Evening (6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.) If you are inter-ested in serving, please call the Office of Religious Education (215) 357 - 2130 at your earliest convenience. Lastly, please make use of our CCD website: www.st-bede.org (click on Religious Education, click on CCD/Religious Education, click on any icon of interest). All important dates are listed as well as information regarding sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation & Penance, First Communion and Confirmation. Of course, we are as close as the phone - - - don't hesitate to call if you have any questions. Let us keep each other in prayer. God Bless, Carole Obrokta

It is our hope that the chapel may be a source of
God’s peace for you and that you tell your
family and friends about it.
In order to have a constant vigil of prayer before the Blessed Sac-
rament, we must make sure someone is in the chapel for all 168
hours of every week. The only way we can do this is with committed
adorers. A committed adorer (member) is someone who promises
to make a weekly visit to the chapel for at least one hour on the
same day at the same time each week. It is only through the generos-
ity and sacrifice of the members of the Adoration Society, that we are
able to have perpetual Eucharistic Adoration at St. Bede. It’s a sim-
ple matter of putting God first in your life. We welcome members
of our neighboring parishes and invite you to share in the bless-
ings of perpetual adoration.
Our current open hours are: Monday 10AM & 1PM, Tuesday
2AM, Thursday 1PM, Friday 5AM, 11AM & 12PM, Saturday
2AM, 5AM, 6PM & 8PM. Also, prayer partners are requested
for the following hours (commitment of 2X per month): Sunday
3PM, Wednesday 3AM, Thursday 4AM, Friday 4AM & Satur-
day 11PM.
For more information please contact Debbie & Sean McDermott
(215) 504-9897 or email us at [email protected].
Commemorative Books Are Available
If you are a sponsor of our 50th Anniversary event, or donated a memorial listing in the book, a Commemorative Book awaits for you
in the Parish Office! You may pick up your copy during regular busi-
ness hours (M-F, 8am to 9pm, Saturday, 9am to Noon), NOW!
The book provides a carefully researched history of the parish,
from its establishment by Cardinal Krol, through its first years led by
Fr. James P. Martin and a few hundred families, all the way to the
50th Anniversary Mass and Banquet.
If you haven’t yet bought a commemorative book, it is not too
late! Copies are still for sale at a cost of $30, & also available in the
Parish Office on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Anne Flanagan Foundation
Want to help families who genuinely need financial assistance to send their children to St. Katharine Drexel
Regional School? Consider a donation to the Anne
Flanagan Foundation.
At this point there are five parish families who need financial assistance in order to cover the tuition and in some cases the
additional expenses incurred in sending their children to our
regional school.
Seven years ago, Patrick & Anne Flanagan established the Anne Flanagan Foundation in loving memory of their deceased daugh-
ter, herself , an alumni of St. Bede School. Each year they offer
a matching grant of $10,000 to the fund with the hopes that addi-
tional donations will match their pledge and at least double the
fund. What a wonderful way to insure that the legacy of Catho-
lic Education continues here in our parish. There is a need &
you can help.
For information, please call Monsignor Marine at 215-357- 5720.

St. Bede the Venerable Church on August 5, 1967.
The annual Polish Festival at the Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa will be held over the Labor Day weekend Septem-ber 3rd, 4th and 5th and the following weekend September 10th and 11th. Every year the Bucks County Pro Life Coalition sponsors a booth where they give away information on pro life issues and also provide wood roses and t-shirts for sale. The proceeds are used to support crises pregnancy centers. Volunteers are very much needed to help man the booth. If you can volunteer an hour or two for any of these dates, you will find it rewarding and very helpful to the pro life cause. Please call Ellen Gifford at 215-601-9945.
