Marriage Moment

Complaining can poison your marriage. Sure, there are times when your spouse does something you don’t like and you should honestly share that. Other times you may just want to vent. Occasional complaining is okay, but repetitive or more than once a day makes you a sourpuss. It’s hard to love a sourpuss.

Parenting Perspective

Mother’s Day is May 13. What does it mean to be a mother? Does it mean to give birth? That’s only one day. If your children are old enough, brainstorm with them things that a good mother does. Think of the mothers who pre-ceded you. What were their motherly qualities?

From the Choir Loft

Hail, holy Mary, Queen of peace, O Maria!

O fragrance of God’s love increase, O Maria!

Mother, servant of God’s grace,

Womb for Christ, holy birthing place,

First disciple, we embrace:

Salve, salve, salve Regina! (text from “Hail, Holy Mary, Queen of Peace”)

Happy Mother’s Day! Fittingly today, the readings and hymns speak of love and unity, which are both so beauti-fully exemplified in the life of our Mother Mary. Thank you to all mothers, who so generously give of themselves for others! You inspire us to grow in holiness, love, and courage! Do you love to sing? You’re welcome to join in our music ministries at St. Benedict! No prior choral experience is necessary and instrumentalists are also welcome. Please contact our Music Director, Maria Chomicka, at [email protected] or (716) 472-6018.

“We are called to be instru-ments of God our Father, so that our planet might be what he desired when he created it and correspond with his plan for peace, beauty and fullness.” - Pope Francis, Laudato Si s.53

SAVE THE DATE!!!

WEDNESDAY MAY 23RD IS OUR NEXT CREA-

TION CARE TEAM MEETING featuring guest

speaker Jared Pristach, Green Project Engineer, Envi-

ronmental Consultant, and St.Ben’s Alumni.

We hope you can join us at 6:30 in the cafeteria on Wednesday May 23rd! Our speaker will share his knowl-edge on the wet side of green infrastructure such as rain barrels and rain gardens and answer our related questions. We also plan to share a LOT of follow up on our ideas from our first meeting back in March, recap our April vol-unteer meet-up, and more! ABOUT THE NEW Creation Care Team: In his 2015 en-cyclical “Laudato Si”, Pope Francis describes how we are called to care for creation not only as responsible citizens, but also as followers of Christ. Our new Creation Care Team is exploring how we can follow this message right in our own St. Ben’s community, working to host guest speakers on environmental topics, organize Catholic in-volvement in environmental care volunteer opportunities, and begin supporting parish youth creation care education. Email [email protected] to join our mailing list for updates and event details.
