My Dear St. Bernadette Family,
We have been looking at images of the Paschal Mystery these past weeks: The destruction of the Temple, the Crucifix and the seed that dies to bear fruit. Today we look at the real thing, the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
In the first reading (one of my favorite passages in all of the Bible) the “suffering servant” says “the Lord God has given me a well-trained tongue, that I might know how to speak to the weary a word that will rouse them.” We have been struggling all through Lent with the core belief of Christians that death gives life (The Paschal Mystery). Now we see it as the “good news” that we have to share with others.
In our world, few have this belief or understand-ing. Most look to might to give life or have lost hope all together. We prayed this morning “that we may heed the lesson of patient suffering” knowing in faith that we must follow Christ’s example if we are to share His victory.
The world needs words to rouse them. There is so much suffering and people seeking redemption through violence. One of the fruits of our hard work throughout Lent and especially during this Holy Week will be that we possess a treasure, the answer to the prayers of humanity.
Now that we know how the Lord leads us to life and a clean heart, let us share this with those who are lost. With love, Fr. Tom
Saint Bernadette Catholic Parish, in the heart of Lakewood, Colorado, is an inclusive Christian
community, committed to the teaching of Jesus Christ. We are strengthened by the Word of
God and the Sacraments, guided by the Holy Spirit, and inspired by our patronesses the Blessed
Virgin Mary, Saint Bernadette Soubirous, and Saint Kateri Tekakwitha. We aspire to live our
faith through the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy and follow our Lord’s command to
call all to discipleship.

Liturgy Corner
This coming week we celebrate the height of our church’s calendar, the Triduum. “Triduum” has its origins in Latin. It comes from two words, “tres” and “dies” which mean “three days.” To be more precise, three twenty-four hour periods. The Triduum begins at sundown on Holy Thursday and con-cludes with evening prayer at sundown Easter Sunday. The high point is the celebration of the Easter Vigil.
Here are some phrases to meditate upon for each day of the Triduum. Take some time with these phrases, meditate on their meaning. How do you relate to these words?
Holy Thursday: “Peter said to him, ‘You will never wash my feet.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Unless I wash you, you will have no inheritance with me.’” Gospel of John
Good Friday: “With a broken heart, with tearful eyes, the Savior stands condemned to die. Can we know the pain He felt, the day the cross held up the sky?” Poet, Douglas Nolan
Easter Vigil: “O truly necessary sin of Adam, destroyed completely by the Death of Christ! O happy fault, that earned so great, so glorious a Redeemer.” Easter Proclamation

During Lent, St. Bernadette school is collecting disposable diapers for Catholic Charities so they can provide help to mothers who so desperately need them for their babies. There is a collection box
in the vestibule of the church. We will also accept cash donations.
Use the envelopes in the pews and mark “Diaper Drive.”
The school Gala is coming up, and a big part of this
event has always included a raffle. This year’s raffle
will be a 50/50. A 50/50 raffle means that the total
proceeds from the raffle are split 50% to one winner
and 50% to St. Bernadette. For example: if we sell
$5000 of raffle tickets, one winner will receive $2500
and St. Bernadette will profit $2500. Every time a
ticket is sold the prize increases! So, the more
tickets we sell, the BIGGER the prize. Tickets are
only $5.00 each! To date we have sold 165 tickets,
that makes the prize today $412.50. The Gala
committee's goal is to sell 1600 tickets. You can
help make that happen - buy tickets or help sell
tickets. Tickets will be available various weekends
at church, and are always available in the school
and parish office, or you can contact Carol Hamer at
303-519-8789 for tickets to buy or sell. Remember
the more tickets sold the BIGGER the PRIZE!
We are 7 weeks away from the Spirits of the Future
Gala. Please help with donations/solicitations and
attendees. Invite your friends!

Meet your Parish Council
Parish Advisory Council (PAC)
The Parish Advisory Council (PAC) advises the pastor on developments of pastoral priorities.
The Council helps the pastor to identify pastoral needs and to implement and evaluate pastoral
programs. The Council assists with encouraging volunteerism and participation by the parishioners
in the life and ministry of the Church. (From Archdiocese of Denver Pastoral Handbook, 1.2.3.4)
The current members of our Parish Advisory Council are: Nancy Good, Irma Farrell, Jackie Fling, Lou Ann Bauer, Jerry Cuzella, Dave Amicone and Mike Wisneski.
Soon, three members will have reached their “term limit” and need replacement. Please consider who you think might best serve our parish as a member of the Parish Advisory Council.
St. Bernadette Capital Campaign Prayer
Heavenly Father, we worship and adore you. We thank you for the generous gifts you have bestowed on us your
servants. You have poured out your love on St. Bernadette Parish for over 70 years and we in return offer the service
of our time, talent and treasure.
Lord Jesus, we seek to renew and beautify our church, a sanctuary for those who seek comfort, guidance and truth.
May this place of worship be a safe and holy refuge for those who seek You and your loving embrace.
Holy Spirit pour out your fire upon us as we work together to accomplish these goals you have set before us.
Give us strength, courage and clear vision as we use our gifts to serve You.
We ask all this through the intercession of our Patronesses, Mary, our Mother, St. Bernadette and St. Kateri.
AMEN.
I have often referred to my amazing pilgrimage to the
Holy Land three years ago. It was a life changing
experience for myself and all who joined me. The same
company, Mater Dei Tours is offering the same tour for
August 18th-28th, 2018. I recommend them highly.
For information contact them directly at
www.materdeitours.com or 1-800-515-2632.
The flyer is also available through our office.
Fr. Tom Coyte
Pope Francis has asked our parish to support the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps Christians in the Holy Land. Your support helps the church minister in parishes, provide Catholic schools and offer religious education. The Pontifical Good Friday Collection also helps to preserve the sacred shrines.
The wars, unrest and instability have been especially hard on Christians. In these times of crisis, the Pontifical Good Friday Collection
provides humanitarian aid to refugees.
When you contribute to the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, you become an instrument of peace and join with Catholics around the world in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land.

Holy Family High School
Holy Family High School will hold its annual 7th Grade Information Night on Wednesday, April 25th at 6:00 p.m. in our school theater. This is a great time to learn about our Catholic Faith curriculum, College Preparatory academics, excellent athletics, and many Extra-Curricular offerings. Members of the administration as well as current students and parents will be available to answer questions.
