FIRST COMMUNION

Bishop Rice has recorded two short videos which are on YouTube. The videos will teach the basics of what children and families should understand about the Mass and the Eucharist. Both are excel-lent.

Part 1 - The Mass The URL for Part I is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLxjE636Q6I

Children's Liturgy

Hi ALL Little People of St Canera. Since we do not have Children’s Liturgy due to Social Distancing, Children’s Liturgy will Zoom Saturday’s at 6 p.m., before the Spanish Mass. It is presented in English so ALL children are invited.

Please contact Ms. Rose at 417-592-2106 or email her at [email protected] to let her know your email address and phone number. If you have not been getting an email from her, she does not have your in-formation.

recibirte sacramentalmente,

Ven al menos espiritualmente a mi corazón. Te abrazo como si ya estuvieras allí,

y unirme totalmente a ti.

Dios te bendiga a ti y a tu familia.

¡Bienvenidos de nuevo a Sta. Canera!

Gracias.

DIRECTIVES FOR PUBLIC MASSES

The Dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass continues until further notice. We will do

everything we CAN DO to provide a safe environment for parishioners, but the decision to re-

turn is yours in deciding if the time is right for you. The 7 PM Spanish Mass and the 8 AM

English Masses will continue to be live-streamed on Facebook.

If you choose to come back, please know that restrictions are in place to protect those in attend-

ance.

Please do not come if you are sick, anyone in your household is sick or in quarantine,

or have symptoms of illness (fever, dry cough, shortness of breath).

We will use only the front glass doors. Please do not enter or exit through any other

doors even if you have a key.

There is no social gathering before or after Mass inside the building.

Respect social distancing. Seating will be limited. Please follow the instructions of the

ushers. If no seats remain, you can view the live-stream from your car or at home. The

doors will be locked when Mass begins.

Face masks are required.

When entering the building, you will be directed to a pew by an usher. When you exit the

building, you will also be directed by an usher. Maintain six feet of distance from non-

family members at all times.

Please use the hand sanitizer that will be available as you enter the building.

Children’s Liturgy on Saturday is suspended.

Please respect the six feet distancing, and do not shake hands or hug anyone that is not a

family member living in the same household.

We will not “pass the baskets” for the collection during Mass. Please place any donations

in the black basket at the rear of the church, or the Parish Hall if you are seated there.

The use of holy water in the fonts is still suspended.

All hymnals and missalettes have been removed. The music will be minimal. Only the

cantor and Fr. Chaz will sing.

Holy Communion will be distributed AFTER Mass to those in attendance and to those who

chose to watch the live-stream from their home or car.

God bless you and your family.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

is for adults who are interested in learning

more about the Catholic faith. It is for adults of

other Christian traditions or no religious tradition

who sense a call to the Catholic faith. It is also for

adults who were baptized into the Catholic faith

but, for whatever reason, have not completed the

sacraments of initiation (Eucharist and Confirma-

tion).

If you (or you know of someone) who is interest-

ed in joining the Catholic Church, please call the

parish office at 417-451-3411. Classes will start

in September (exact date will be specified soon.)

RCIA TEACHING TEAM

Kevin Linehan is asking for parishioners who would like to be part of the RCIA Teaching Team. If you would like to participate in the rewarding activity of sharing your faith and preparing adults to receive the sacraments of the Catholic Church, please call Kevin (417-451-0003) or the parish of-fice (417-451-3411).

COLLECTION for the HOLY LAND 2020

Due to COVID-19, our diocese was unable to take up a second collection for the Holy Land that was originally scheduled to be on Good Fri-day. Pope Francis has approved the proposal that the Collection for the Holy Land be taken up on the weekend of Sunday, Sept. 13, 2020.

Some of you made your donation for the Holy Land earlier this year via mail or in the drop-box. Thank you for your contributions.

Mass Alternatives

St. Canera is open for public Masses this weekend. The obligation to attend Sunday Mass is dispensed. We will continue to live-stream Masses on our Facebook page:

Live-streamed from St. Canera Catholic Church on Saturday at 7:00 PM in Spanish. “Like” St. Canera Facebook page to view.

Live-streamed 8:00 AM in English. “Like” St. Can-era Facebook page to view.

WORLD DAY of MIGRANTS and REFUGEES

The 106th World Day of Migrants and Refugees (WMDR) will take place on Sept. 27, 2020. The chosen theme for this year's celebration is, "Forced like Jesus Christ to flee." The text of Pope Francis' reflection on the theme, "Like Jesus Christ, forced to flee: Welcoming, protecting, promoting and in-tegrating internally displaced persons" can be found at http://www.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/messages/migration/documents/papa-francesco_20200513_world-migrants-day-2020.html.

Pope Francis urges us this year to discover the real-ity of internally displaced people more. Every month, a new video of Pope Francis and other mul-timedia materials delve into the sub-themes present in the Message of the Holy Father. Those resources will be released at https://migrants-refugees.va/en/idp/

The US Conference of Catholic Bishops provides the following backgrounder on "FAQ: What Is Happening to the US Asylum Laws?" at https://justiceforimmigrants.org/what-we-are-working-on/asylum/faq-what-is-happening-to-the-u-s-asylum-laws/?

We welcome Fr. Vincent Au this weekend from the Congregation of the Mother of the Redeemer in Carthage.

OUR COMMUNITIES COUNT:

The 2020 Census September deadline is rapidly ap-proaching. Let's ensure that our local communities get their fair share of federal resources and Congres-sional representation by encouraging the full partici-pation of all Catholics in Census 2020. Data collect-ed in the census will inform the distribution of more than $675 billion in federal funds to states and com-munities each year for things like infrastructure, health care, and food assistance. It's important that we all respond to shape the future of our communi-ties, many of which are among the poorest in Mis-souri. Learn more at 2020CENSUS.GOV.

Brothers and sisters: None of us lives for oneself, and no one dies for oneself. For if we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord; so then, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. For this is why Christ died and came to life, that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.

We—all of us—whether we are at mass or not—are the Body of Christ. We know—to some degree—one another’s pain during this very strange time, because it is our pain too. “None of us lives for oneself, and no one dies for oneself.” WE don’t know the names of all those in the church with us, but somehow, we are all connected. We are THE BODY OF CHRIST!

If we were on that hillside as Jesus took the loaves and fish, blessed them, broke them, and gave them to the hungry crowd, our experience would not be more sacred than it is each time we are at mass together.

But now, I’m going to ask you to stretch your thinking! Being at mass together with like-minded Catholics is no more an experience of the Body of Christ than donning my mask and shopping at my Walmart Neighborhood Store! There, I am “with” people who have the same needs I do: we need groceries to fix din-ner with; we need toilet paper and Kleenex; we need greeting cards to keep in touch with our loved ones; we need Tylenol for our headaches; we need ice cream to help us feel better during this pandemic! We need the women and men who have stocked the shelves, rotated the stock, guided us to the location of what we need, and checked us out and sacked our groceries when we are finished.

We keep our distance from one another and wear our mask because we are THE BODY OF CHRIST and we care about each other’s

health and well-being.

We hope that our eyes are smiling at others in the grocery store no less than they are smiling at others in the pews that surround “our pew” at mass. “None of us lives for oneself, and no one dies for oneself.”

We are all in this thing together and we need one another’s prayers and concern to help us get through these trying times.

I was so pleased that a mother and her little boy were at the mass last Saturday. His “liveliness” and “chatter” brought a new level of liveliness to us all! It reminded me of a photo of my niece Sophie and her brother Paul on Instagram. They are being homeschooled this year and were at their desks which were in a window facing the front yard. On each desk was a half-gallon bot-tle of chocolate milk! Now that’s how to go to school!

Everything we do must be because “we are the Lord’s”….We belong to the Lord all day, eve-ryday! WE ARE THE BODY OF CHRIST LIVING N 2020!

The Lord is kind and merciful, slow to an-

ger, and rich in compassion.

Mass Intentions and Mass Offerings

We currently have many days without assigned Mass Intentions for the new year. Our Mass In-tention schedule is set on a first come first serve basis. As determined by Diocesan policy, the sug-gested Mass offering is $10; however, no one will be denied an intention because of inability to pay.
