SACRIFICE Today the Church focuses on the Eucharist. Today’s readings remind us how connected to ancient blood sacrifices we are when offering our unbloody sacrifice. The reading from Exo-dus describes a solemn ritual designed so the Israelites would never forget their covenant with God. The reading from the Letter to the Hebrews turns us from those ancient animal sacrifices, the first efforts to worship the living God. Our sacrifice is the body and blood of the Son of God. Because of Christ we have a new cove-nant. The Gospel from Mark retells the establish-ment of that covenant, the familiar story of the Last Supper. Juxtaposed with the story of ani-mal sacrifice as it is here, we are challenged to listen with new attention, to remember the great price paid for our salvation. Jesus gave his body and every drop of his blood for us.

STEWARDSHIP IN SCRIPTURE by Deacon Rick Haeckel

Most of us struggle to share ourselves in meaningful ways with others. There is a certain worry that if we give away too much there won’t be enough left for us. That struggle captures what is loosely called “the human condition.” In our humanity we need to be strengthened in order to be food for another. Today’s celebration of Corpus Christi (the older shorter form of its name) speaks directly to what giving of self means. Jesus offered himself with no reservations or limitations. His quiet acceptance of the gift of his very self continues to provide us with the sustenance we so direly need. There is no greater truth that the fact of giving oneself embodies the act of Christian love most perfectly. We gather at mass to relive that gift of Jesus’ self to and for us. The Eucharistic elements of bread and wine are not just symbols of food to feed us but are actually Jesus himself, the One who promised to be with his disciples always. Two thousand years later we continue to celebrate Jesus’ very presence with us. We owe it to ourselves to reflect on this essential truth. Regular reception of the Body and Blood of Jesus is a gift we are unable achieve on our own. Yet, because it is a familiar action, we can overlook the magnitude of the gift. Again, that is part of our human condition. Things we regularly experience become familiar enough that conscious thought is needed to take in their significance. That is where prayer enters in, not only in thanksgiving for the very person of Jesus we have received, but also a fervent request that we be able to transmit some portion of that love to others … to the world. The other side of familiar reception of the Eucharist leads us, at times consciously but always felt within, to a centering of our spirit. We recall that we are today’s disciples, called and sent into the world to proclaim the Good News. Each of us expresses our proclamations formed in ways unique to us. Sameness in spirit but unique in our manifestation of it. What more perfect way of self-realization as disciples could there be than the Eucharist? Regular reception gathers us into the company of those with whom we share faith. A faith that asks not just that we are fed but that we too become those who feed others; in ways we often don’t remember how they signify Jesus with us. How being sent isn’t just a one time trip but an actual way of life. Living as Jesus hands and feet in today’s world depends on remembering who sends us...and walks with us … always.

GREEN TIP OF THE WEEK During a water shortage brown is the new green in our lawns and plantings. Reduce watering to the minimum required to support plantings. If the short-age continues we’ll have to forego replaceable plants and lawns. We’ll be green but not the plants.

FROM THE DESK OF MSGR. FRANCISCO RIOS,

PAROCHIAL VICAR….. My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Today we celebrate and honor the Body and Blood of Christ that is really, truly and substan-tially present under the appearance of bread and wine. After the words of Consecration at Mass (which are the Words of Jesus at the Last Supper) there is no longer bread and wine but the Body and Blood of Christ. The Church teaches us that Jesus is truly pre-sent in the Eucharist, in His words and in the community. So, going to Mass on Sunday or Saturday is an encounter with Jesus Christ. Why do I go to Mass on Sundays? It is a day of obligation. I go to give thanks to God for all the blessings received during the week and always. To Praise and worship the Lord for His great-ness To ask for forgiveness for my sins (that is why we ask Lord have mercy) To ask (Prayer of petition) for special graces or needs. “God so loved the world that He sent His only Son to save the world.” In our love for Him we spend an hour with Him at mass. May the Eucharist, the Sacrament of the Love of God, fill our hearts with love for Him and love for our brothers and sisters.

DESDE EL ESCRITORIO DEL MSGR. FRANCISCO RIOS, VICARIO PARRO-

QUIAL……

NEIGHBORS IN NEED

St. Vincent de Paul The St. Vincent de Paul Help Line (408-778-2928) is answered every day by parish volun-teers. Local people in need contact us for help with rent, utilities, food, gas, etc. This ministry is for everyone in the community, including YOU! Feel free to call if you need anything. In this COVID season call volume is high, mostly for help with rent, as so many have experienced economic hardship; but financial assistance is available, thanks to generous donations from parishioners and the community. If you’d like to help with a donation or as a Help Line volun-teer, it would be appreciated. Thank you to all who have been so thoughtful at this time of hardship.

Safe Car Park Hosts up to eight homeless households, living in their cars, at a site in town that offers show-ers, laundry, food, and most importantly, a dedi-cated case manager to help families clear up debt, improve job skills, and secure affordable housing. They can stay with us as long as they are working diligently on their case manage-ment plan. This health crisis has been a real setback for families in the program. Donations are welcome for ongoing needs. You can find a periodic updates for items requested by the families in the bulletin. Safe Park needs: a few hula hoops, 8 pillows, a few boxes of indi-vidual juices (like Capri Sun), Lysol wipes, 1 Swiffer mop with wet pads, 1 broom and 1 dustpan, 1 portable plug-in heater

Drop off items on the patio at the Safe Car Park located on the MH Bible Church property, 15055 Monterey Rd. Thank you SO much.

Monday Night Community Supper Serves 60-75 hot to-go meals during this time of “shelter in place” instead of our usual sit-down dinner. If you’d like to help, our dinner guests are sometimes in need of laundry soap. Dona-tions are appreciated. Also individual containers of juice, sports drink, sparkling water and bot-tled water are always welcome. You can drop off items at the back door of the Parish Center Kitchen on Mondays, 5-7pm. Contact Joe 408-781-3847 for more info. Thank you to all who have made donations. We are grateful.

NEIGHBORS IN NEED CONTINUED….

Reach Out Reach Out, our community's food pantry, located be-hind the Parish Center and staffed by volun-teers, provides food to many in need. At this time, some cans of hearty soups and boxes of Mac and cheese would be greatly appreciated. Your generosity has been amazing! Thank you! Donations may be dropped off at the Reach Out building M-F from 8:30 to 9:45 or 12:30-2:30pm if the morning isn't convenient. Due to Covid protocols we accept your donations outside the building. Thank you so very much.

Thank You to all who continue to support the parish and our Neighbors in Need

during these difficult times. Many blessings to all.

FEAST OF FAITH The Corpus Christi Procession

In the thirteenth century, a Belgian nun by the name of Juli-ana had a vision: she saw the full moon silvery and radiant ex-cept for one dark spot. The meaning of the vision was revealed to her: the moon was the Church’s liturgical year, the dark spot a missing feast in honor of the Blessed Sacrament. Today’s feast of Corpus Christi—the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ—grew from Juliana’s vision. On this feast, many parishes observe the traditional Corpus Christi procession, giving honor to the Eucharist by carrying this greatest treasure out of the safety of our churches and into our streets. At the end of every Mass we are not just let out, we are sent forth, strengthened by the Eucharist, to be the Body of Christ in the world. The Corpus Christi procession is the dismis-sal writ large! We take Jesus with us, not only in our hearts, but carried in our midst and exposed in a monstrance. It is a public profession of faith and a blessing of the world. Jesus walks with us on these streets that we walk day after day, among those who know him but yearn to know him better, and among those who do not know him. The Eucharist is a mystery to be believed, to be celebrated—and to be lived.

During May we typically have a Parents’ Mass and May Crowing. Because of Covid re-

strictions we adjusted. Parents and most clas-ses joined us live streaming on their devices

from home or the classroom. Our third graders served as readers, both second and third grad-

ers crowned Mary and presented her with bouquets of flowers. For students who just

made their First Communion this was the first time they shared the Eucharist at a school

mass. What a blessing to celebrate Eucharist together!

“Do not think that love, in order to be genuine, has to be extraordinary.

What we need is to love without getting tired. Be faithful in small

things because it is in them that your strength lies.”

― Mother Teresa

GRADUATION - CLASS OF 2021 In anticipation of graduation, 8th graders recent-ly participated in a class retreat and enjoyed a wonderful outdoor luncheon hosted by the 7th grade.

Graduation day was Friday, June 4th. It began with a Baccalaureate Mass immediately fol-lowed by commencement exercises. We wish our graduates Godspeed on their journey to high school. May Christ bless them abundantly and may they return to visit often! Please keep these graduates in your prayers over the next few months.

Ms. Esparza was presented with a colorful “bouquet” for walking 508 laps at the Walkathon. She walked for nine hours, one with each class.
