ALL SOUL’S DAY SERVICE We will have a service in the church on Wednesday, November 2nd at 6:30 for All Soul’s Day. We will remember those called home and buried from St. Catherine’s with candles. Also important to note, we have a binder with blank pages at the front of the church by the baptistery. Everyone is welcome to write the names of their dearly departed in this book. We will then pray for them as well. SECOND COLLECTION COMING SOON

Just a reminder that the second collection on the weekend of November 5th and 6th will be for the Archdiocese for the Military Services. There is an envelope in your packets.

“Great Catholic Parishes”

This is the title of a just published book by William E. Simon, chairman and founder of a Catholic think tank called " Parish Catalyst." The book is subtitled "How Four Essential Practices Make Them Thrive." There are over 17,000 Catholic Parishes in the United States and his think tank identified the top 244 of them in terms of the vibrancy, productivity and fulfillment of Catholic mission given their individual circumstances - these are the stand out parishes in the lives of their communities. One of the 244 pastors interviewed and quoted in the book is our Pastor, Fr. Lou Vallone, who talks about the success of both St. Catherine of Siena and St. John of God in a time when many parishes are declining and failing. His comments and those of the other pastors are meant as a model or pattern that can be adapted by other Catholic communities to bring discipleship and growth in what seems to be a time of abandonment and closure. There is a resurrection in seeming death for any parish, according to Simon's findings if the people and the leadership are committed to Christ, to each other and to the work of the Spirit. It is worth reading in this time of On Mission by any Catholic who wants to look forward and not back. Available online at www.avemariapress.com and many secular booksellers. Good reading.

Queen of the Holy Rosary, Pray For Us

Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 23, 2016

“When the just cry out, He hears them, and from all their distress He rescues them.”

The Pastor’s Corner

Father Lou Vallone

"For everything hidden is meant to be revealed, and everything concealed is meant to be brought to light." (Matt. 4:22) "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." (Luke 4:21.) This week, after many months of an embargo of secrecy placed upon the committees, priests and parish leaders of On Mission to not reveal the various models for the reorganization of parishes going forward, the information has finally been made public and shared with the actual People of God in the parishes themselves. (Well, to be accurate, not to all the people and not in all places - there is a schedule of parish meetings that reach into December before some parishes in the diocese get their details.) Both St. Catherine and St. John of God have had their first of two parish meetings to reveal the models this past week. There is a second meeting (a reprise) for each parish this coming week. Since my Pastor's Corner deadline is prior to the actual meetings, I will only address what I know for sure will occur at those meetings - that is, the unveiling of the INITIAL PROPOSED models FOR DISCUSSION, ADJUSTMENT AND DISCERNMENT. They are to be considered, NOT PUT INTO EFFECT at this time. They are WHAT IF SPECULATIONS and haven't even reached the status of plans at this time. Remember that. I encourage all who did not attend the meetings at the parishes last week to be there this week to get first hand the information, and limited and controlled as it is, to offer the feedback asked for from you. Do not depend on my brief summary, rumors and second hand talk. Go to the source. There are four models that involve St. Catherine of Siena: 1. West Hills #25, 3 parish model, parish B: St. Joseph Coraopolis, St. Margaret Mary and St. Catherine merge into ONE parish with ONE campus. 2. West Hills #26, 2 parish model, parish A: St. Columbkille, St. Joseph, St. Margaret Mary, St. Patrick and St. Catherine merge into ONE parish, with TWO campuses.

3. Beaver Valley #27, 5 parish model, parish D: St. Frances Cabrini, St. John the Baptist Monaca, Our Lady of Fatima, St. Titus and St. Catherine merge into ONE parish with TWO campuses. 4. Beaver Valley #28, 3 parish model, parish B: it is exactly the same as the one above, but a different number of priests assigned. St. John of God is involved in two possible models: 1. West Hills #25, 3 parish model, parish C: St. John of God, St. Malachy, St. Philip and St. Margaret Greentree merge into ONE parish, with TWO campuses remaining open. 2. West Hills #26, 2 parish model, parish B: to the four parishes named above, Holy Trinity Robinson is added, but still ONE parish with TWO campuses. These are all matters now open for investigation and discussion, NOT IMPLEMENTATION YET. In a program in Rome addressing the new bishops made throughout the world in the past year, Pope Francis had this to say to them: "The world is tired of charming liars," Francis said. "People can sniff out -- the people of God have the perceptiveness of God -- and run away when they recognize narcissists, manipulators, defenders of their own causes and hawkers of vain crusades." Though addressed to bishops, every one of us can be guilty of these things that drive people away from the Church: priests (and I admit to failing in every single category at one time or another in my life), staff people, parish leaders, contractors and the person in the pew. Please hang in there, don't run away but stay involved every step of the way until we see what God does! (More in next week's corner after the meetings, if in fact I survive them.)
