MISSION STATEMENT—We, the community of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, located within the larger, diverse and artistic seaside community of Laguna Beach, recognize and celebrate the uniqueness which is grounded in the sacred mysteries and traditions of the Roman Catho-lic Church and in the history and lives of our individuals, families and leaders. Built on these roots, and in order to see the world as God sees it, we commit ourselves to: being a welcoming sanctuary and a place of prayer and worship, nurturing, assisting, encouraging and serving all those in need, offering all generations opportunities for personal and communal growth, and, by these commitments, to honor our call to evangelization.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION On the First Friday of each month we gather in prayer and praise before the Blessed Sacrament. Following the 8 a.m. Mass and concluding at 10 p.m. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Parents of infants requesting information about Baptism may contact the par-ish office. Infant baptisms are celebrated on the second Saturday of the month.

Bring bread and/or wine you plan to serve at your Thanksgiving Dinner to be blessed.

O God, when I have food, help me to remember the hungry, when I have work, help me to remember the jobless, when I have a home help me to remember those who have no home at all, when I am without pain, help me to remember those who suffer, and re-membering, help me to destroy my complacency; be-stir my compassion, and be concerned enough to help by word and deed, those who cry out for what we take for granted. GIVING ALL

Trusting widows play a significant role in this weekend’s readings. At the point of poverty, when giving even the smallest amount of what they had could imperil their health and well-being, they trusted God and gave anyway. What is important about their giving is not what or how much they gave, but how they gave it. Without selfishness, they gave to help others. Their giving was from the heart, with little hope or intention of receiving any sort of re-ward or recognition for their generosity. The monetary values of the widows’ gifts were small, but their value meas-ured in the Kingdom was priceless. There is a significant similarity between their gift and the gift Jesus gave each of us. The widows offered their lives for God. Jesus offered his life for us. © Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co.

From Pope Francis Speak to Families, Words of Joy and Life. The WORD among us

THE LORD NEEDS YOU! I think of the story of St. Francis of Assisi. In front of the crucifix, he heard the voice of Jesus saying to him, “Francis, go, rebuild my house.” The young Francis responded readily and generously to the Lord’s call to rebuild his house. But which house? Slowly but surely, Francis came to realize that it was not a question of repairing a stone building but about doing his part for the life of the Church. It was a matter of being at the service of the Church, loving her and working to make the countenance of Christ shine ever more brightly in her. Today too, as always, the Lord needs you, young people, for his Church. My friends, the Lord needs you! Today too he is calling each of you to fol-low him in his Church and to be missionaries. The Lord is calling you to-day! Not the masses, but you, and you, and you, each one of you. Listen to what he is saying to you in your heart. -Prayer Vigil, World Youth Day

—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
