Forty Days for Life During Lent this year (March 6 through April 14), our community will be one of many joined together for ‘40 Days for Life.” It is a focused pro-life effort that consists of prayer and fasting and a peaceful vigil in front of Planned Parenthood at 12th & Locust Sts. St. Cecilia’s Day is Wednesday, March 13. During the last vigil, a life was saved just because some people from our parish were there to offer hope and support. A young mother is anxiously awaiting the birth of her baby in April. Kindly offer one hour of your time for this project. There are sign-up sheets at the front and back of Church. Please contact Re-gina O’Reilly at 267-408-9023 with any questions.

Best Lent Ever During these forty days, discover simple ways to transform your life. Join our parish for BEST LENT EVER, a free email program from Dynamic Catholic that is designed to help you have a life-changing Lent. Each day, you’ll receive a short inspirational video that will help you… Find areas for growth Build better habits Spark lasting change Are you ready to have your best Lent ever? Sign up at Dynamic Catholic.com/BestLent

Lenten Regulations Weekdays of Lent: There is no obligation to fast. However, voluntary acts of self-denial are rec-ommended.

Days of Abstinence: All who have reached their 14th year are bound to abstain totally from meat on all the Fridays in Lent.

Operation Rice Bowl Your support of this practice by which the sacrifices of our people are able to help meet the needs of the hungry, both here and elsewhere, is appreciated. Rice Bowls are available in church. Thank you for your generosity.

Aid For Friends Thank you to everyone who continues to help this ministry by preparing and delivering meals. We can always use more help, so if you would consid-er adding an extra portion to your family meal, freezing it, and when you have a few meals, bring them to the freezer at church, we would be most grateful. Supplies are beside the freezer located in the alcove between the church and rectory. For info, please call Bernadette O’Donnell at 215-379-3448 or visit www.aidforfriends.org.

Charismatic Prayer Group Do you have an immediate prayer need or can you offer the gift of prayer? The ‘People of Love’ Prayer Group meets Monday evenings at 7:30pm in the Cecilian Room. You are always welcome to join us and renew your Spirit.

Pre-Jordan at St. Cecilia The next Pre-Jordan Class at St. Cecilia Church is scheduled for March 13 at 7:00pm. Pre-registration is required by contact-ing the rectory at 215-725-1240.

First Sunday of Lent March 10, 2019

FOCUS: Jesus Christ freed us from the slavery of sin.

As we begin Lent, our penance and fasts seem rather small in comparison with how Jesus suffered for our salvation. Our forty days does not quite compare to his forty days in the desert. We need only to call on Jesus, and he will deliv-er us from our sins. Each Lent presents a new opportunity to repent and grow in our relationship with the One who gave his all so we could be his.

LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the Book of Deuterono-my, Moses instructs the people to offer gifts to the Lord for their freedom from slavery in Egypt, and for God’s never-ending care. In his Letter to the Romans, Paul reminds his readers that without any distinction of nationality, all who call on the name of the Lord will be saved. Luke’s Gospel tells how Jesus withstood the temptations of the devil.

REFLECTION: Jesus not only shared our human nature but, like us, was subject to temptations. In the course of our daily lives we also face temptations to put comfort and ma-terial possessions over the sacrifices involved in being a dis-ciple. We get sidetracked and lose sight of what and who are important in our lives.

So I ask myself:

What are my priorities; who and what are important in my life?

How to you express those priorities by the choices you make each day?

The Knights of Columbus is an international Order of Catholic men who are called to lead with faith, pro-tect our families, serve others and defend values in a busy changing world. Our local Council, Father Thomas J. F. Ryan #5036 will be holding an Open House at 9090 Old Bustleton Pike, Phila., PA 19115, on Tuesday evening March 26 at 7:30pm. Whether you become an individual member or a member of our Council, you will find that Knights of Columbus membership brings Catholic men together in a powerful way. If you would like to join today simply go to KofC.org/joinus and enter our council #5036 for local information.

Announcement from the Archdiocese Today, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced that Archbishop Chaput has approved the relegation of the Saint Peter Claver Church building to profane but not sordid use effective April 8, 2019. This formal, canoni-cal designation means that the building will close as a Roman Catholic Church. A copy of the official canoni-cal decree regarding this matter can be found at: http://archphila.org/features/parish-planning-initiatives/.

Manna Food Drive—Next Weekend Please remember to bring non-perishable food items to the vestibule of the Church next week-end to help those less fortunate. God bless you for your kindness.

Spring Bible Study The first session of our Spring Bible Study will be held on Monday, March 18 at 7:00pm in the Auditorium for those who have registered.

St. Cecilia Charismatic Mass You are invited to our 42nd anniversary Mass in St. Cecilia Church on Monday, March 25. Praise and Prayer will begin at 4:45pm with Mass at 5:00pm. Our celebrant will be Fr. John Kelly (Assumption Parish). Refreshments will follow in the lower level of school. For more info, contact Barbara at 215-722-2265.

Second Collection This Weekend This collection is for the Church in Latin America where Catholics face many challenges as they strive to live and share their faith. It is very difficult for some com-munities to have Mass regularly. We are called to share our faith with all. With your support, pastoral agents can receive training to bring the Gospel to neighborhoods where there may not be a minister or church building. This gives the people hope and the joy of the Gospel. By your support, you are truly making a difference. Thank you.
