MY BROTHER’S KEEPER MINISTRY

Seniors, do you need a ride to the doctor or grocery store? Please give us at least 3 days notice. This is a free service to

all our senior parishioners. We are not able to drive for surgery or if anes-thesia is involved. Call Linda at 847-439-5372.

St.Vincent de Paul is an emergency source for food and short-term financial help for parishioners and those living within the parish boundaries. Please call 847-437-6208. Requests will be handled with care and confidentiality.

In today’s Gospel John the Baptist urges us to “Prepare the way of the Lord.”. We are called to help prepare the way of the Lord by making the real meaning of Christmas come alive in our own hearts, in our family and to reach out to those in need.

Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Please call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that together we can help the suffering and poor to celebrate Christmas.

THANK YOU TO ALL SECRET SANTAS !!!

Your generosity of the Giving Tree Christmas Gifts is greatly appreciated.

We filled 54 bags for the Women’s Center. The toys and clothing gifts are essential to the success of the two Christmas parties benefiting the parents and children of families in need. As we near the Birth of Jesus, may God bless you and your families!

There will be an

Evening of Mourning/Evening of Healing at St. Raymond de Penafort Church

at 7:00 pm. A multi-parish cluster is

organizing this tri-lingual service which will include the Sacrament of Anointing.

Amy Florian, noted author and teacher on grief studies, will speak. All are welcome, especially those who have experienced

loss and those who minister to the bereaved. Hospitality will follow.

Dear Lord, Through the darkness, I look for your wisdom. I want my heart to be open to you. But sometimes in these days, it seems that so many things come between us.

Help me to be awake and aware of the radiance you bring to my life. Help me to be grateful each day for the blessings of family and friends. Let me be a peacemaker in my own life, and in the world. Let me pray especially for this difficult world and those who are so in need of an end to violence. My heart begs for this as my Advent prayer today. http://onlineministries.creighton.edu/CollaborativeMinistry/Advent/aweek2.html

Join Us for a Christmas Concert

The Des Plaines Harmonaires, a semi- professional chorus, will be coming to

St. Cecilia on Sunday, December 17 at 3 p.m.

to perform holiday selections for our listening and singing pleasure. This 45-minute concert will be held

in Church and will feature popular holiday music.

Part of the Harmonaires' performance will include a sing-a-long

and Santa will be making an appearance to give out candy canes to the children. After-concert hospitality will be in the Bernardin Room.

Come and enjoy the music and Christmas cookies. Admission is free so bring the entire family!

Ministry of Bereavement

If you are making progress in your grief and you are beginning to have some good days, don’t be upset be-cause the holidays set you back a little. That’s normal. If you are in the early weeks and months of grief, believe that every future holiday season won’t necessarily be as bad as this year. Go through the holidays in ways that help you best to get through them. Don’t listen to the non-bereaved and all their “expert” advice. They’re advising you to behave in ways that make them comfortable. Ignore them. Do what works for you and your family. Remember: Cry when you need to and laugh when you can.

THE PROCESS OF SELECTING A NEW PASTOR

FOR ST. CECILIA PARISH

The process of determining where a priest will serve as a pastor in the Archdiocese of Chi-cago is prayerfully and carefully facilitated by the Cardinal, the Vicar Bishops of each Vicari-ate, the Deans, a priest who coordinates priest placement activities full-time and the Priests’ Placement Board which consists of eight Archdiocesan priests. Members of the Priests’ Place-ment Board meet weekly from September through June to assess the needs of parishes in light

of placing pastors and associate pastors at parishes. Careful attention is given to determine how the Holy Spirit is calling particular priests to serve the needs of specific parishes in the Archdiocese. The process is focused on assessing each prospective pastor’s talents and skills and matching them with the needs of specific parishes. The input of the staff, lay leadership and parishioners of each parish is extremely valuable to the process.

The process is outlined in brief below:

A Parish Consultation has been scheduled at St. Cecilia Parish for Tuesday, December 19, 2017. Two members of the Priests Placement Board, the Bishop, and the Dean will have three separate meetings with the following groups in your parish to gather input about the qualities needed in your new pastor:

4pm – meeting with the Parish Staff and Permanent Deacons.

6pm – meeting with parish leadership (members of Parish Council, Finance Committee, etc.)

7pm – meeting with all interested parishioners in a Town Hall format to discuss the strengths and challenges of the parish and the qualities needed in their next pastor. Input from parishioners is very important in the process. The present pastor and current staff members are asked not to at-tend this session so as to allow people to express their opinions openly.

A Parish Profile is compiled from information received at these parish meetings along with information regarding the parish’s mission statement, ministries, finances and other facts about the parish. Prospective pastors who are interested in the parish get a copy of this parish profile to help them in their discernment.

Priests who are pursuing a pastorate complete a profile outlining their specific talents and skills and how the Holy Spirit is calling them to serve at their next assignment. Members of the Priests Placement Board will interview specific prospective pastors to determine their eligibility for being pastor of St. Cecilia Parish.

After sessions of formal prayer and several weeks of discernment the Priest Placement Board will make a recom-mendation to Bishop Rassas and Cardinal Cupich on which priest they recommend to become the next pastor of St. Cecilia Parish. In a consultative manner, Cardinal Cupich will make the final decision about who he will ap-point as the next pastor of St. Cecilia Parish. This will happen in the Spring.

If you have any further questions regarding the priest placement process please contact the Priests’ Placement Office at 312-534-5270. Please pray for the continued guidance of the Holy Spirit in the process of selecting a new pastor for your parish. Please know that your input is profoundly needed and will be taken very seriously!

TOWN HALL MEETING AT ST. CECILIA PARISH
