Parishioner Helen Best died on March 1, 2020 and a Mass of the Resurrection was offered on Friday March 13, 2020 here at St. Cecilia. Please pray for the repose of her soul.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to the Vargas/Gould, Cruz, Hill, Gurley, Isaac, Frank, Urban, Pacheco/Larios, Oliver, Braus, Benger,
Tedrick, and Burns families.
My dear friends,
I want to let you know that I am keeping all of you in prayer as we struggle through this virus issue. We need to pray for each other and to do the things that we can to keep healthy. As a reminder, since we are now receiving only the host, and I have asked that you receive in the hand, please put one hand, palm up, on top of the other hand, palm up, to make an “altar” for the host. That way we can prevent the host from slipping through fingers. Please use good judgement for attending Mass on the weekend. Attendance dropped substantially last weekend, so I realize people are paying at-tention to suggested health guidelines and I encourage all of you to continue to make the best choices for your personal circumstances.
Finally, let us pray for those who have contracted the virus AND pray for a quick answer to a vaccine.
Love God, love your neighbor,
Fr. Mark

ARCHBISHOP ETIENNE ISSUES DIRECTIVES ABOUT CORONAVIRUS
“Our response to this spreading virus must reflect how we, as disciples of Jesus, express our love of God and neighbor,” the archbishop wrote in a March 2 letter to parish leaders. “In caring for all members of our community — especially the elderly and the vulnerable — we are carrying out the mission of the church.”
The archbishop urged Catholics to stay home from Mass if they are sick; to practice good hygiene, includ-ing frequent hand washing; and to avoid hand-to-hand contact during the Our Father and the sign of peace.
He also said that holy water should be removed from fonts; that Communion hosts should be received only in the hand, not on the tongue; and that the Precious Blood should not be distributed until further notice.
The archbishop urged Catholics to pray for all those affected by the virus.
Next week, our parish will take up The Catholic Relief Services Collection (CRSC) to help Jesus in disguise. Through this collection, six Catholic agencies are able to provide struggling communities with relief and support, and to work for peace and reconcilia-tion among our marginalized brothers and sisters around the world. Your con-tributions make a difference, so please be generous.

FAITH FORMATION AND SAINT CECILIA CATHOLIC SCHOOL
Seeing God in Basketball
On a recent Friday afternoon, I was walking around our big, beautiful playground, assessing the status of our tender young grass, newly planted last summer. Three young stu-dents were playing soccer with our After-Care Teacher and the sun was shining. When I looked up through the black fence of the play-ground, I saw and heard our SCCS students chatting happily as they walked to basketball practice. The group included 12 of our SCCS girls in 3rd-6th grade. Coaches Cory and Molly Dunn were shepherding the team. For many of our girls, being on the team marks not only their first experience playing basketball, but their first experi-ence playing on any team. As a result, the learning curve is huge at every practice. Growth mindset is being employed, big time. With competence comes increased confidence; our players are elated with their new capacity on the court. Our home games are at First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo. Siblings, parents, grandparents, uncles and friends fill the seats, two rows deep, to cheer on our players. The hard work of practice makes the games that much sweeter as our students relish each shot, steal, dribble and pass; all cheering on the sidelines are equally excited. The games are a celebra-tion of community, collaboration and growth. On that Friday afternoon, the positive energy and joy emit-ting out from our multi-age team added light to my day. God is definitely in basketball.
With joy, Susan Kilbane
