GRANDFRIENDS NEEDED TO HELP WITH CHILDCARE THURSDAYS

Our Thursday morning for mom group is looking for a few (more) grandfriends! We already have 10 very devoted and

dedicated parishioners from St. Cecilia and Sacred Heart who help care for children, so that their mothers can grow closer to

Our Lord through Scripture study and prayer. Our group is gaining a few more moms/children for the fall so we could

use some more help. If you remember what it was like to try and have a prayer life with small children, and know how important it is to allow moms to have time for spiritual re-newal, please consider joining us! We meet from 9:30-11am

Thursdays. All grandfriends must complete background check and protecting God's children training. Please contact Jennifer Nelson, group coordinator, for more information.

DIOCESAN & COMMUNITY NEWS

The Donut Man Is Coming To Sacred Heart of Jesus Church

Friday, September 25th—7:00 pm See the Bulletin Insert

A Donut Man concert grabs children right where they are with a wonderful blend of Bible songs, stories and lots of audience participation. Rob Evans, The Donut Man, presents the Gospel in a way that introduces young children and their families to the basic elements of the Christian faith and gives them lots to talk about when they get home 'cause the concert is exciting! Children are brought from out of the audience to help the Donut Man tell his stories and to do the hand‑motions that go with the songs. Even Duncan the Talking Donut pops out of his bakery box to sing a "whole" song. A Donut Man concert is a great place for young families to sow seeds of Biblical values into their lives. Values that Rob has cultivated with his wife and their six children (and now 7 grandchildren). It works.

580-St. Cecilia

My dear parishioners, We gather on the 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time to celebrate the Lord’s Day. The New Testament lection is taken from the Letter of Saint James and from it we read: “What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone says he has faith

but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them ’Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,’ but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead. “ I begin this article by calling to mind this Scripture passage because today is the Sunday that we introduce THE BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL. Each year the faithful of the Diocese of Paterson are asked to join our Bishop in making a donation to the appeal which serves a variety of people, primarily the needy, elderly and disabled. I am most grateful to Michelle Shaffer of Sa-cred Heart of Jesus Parish and James Gallagher of Saint Cecilia Parish for assisting me as chairperson for the campaign in each parish. The parish campaign chairperson will speak at all masses this weekend to inform our parishioners of the good work being done as a result of the faith and generosity of people like YOU! The primary beneficiary of the BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL is Catholic Charities. The poor and the vulnerable will are not turned away from our Catholic Charities programs and facilities. We help them in Jesus’ Name! We are able to offer assistance because of the faith which motivates our parishioners to be gener-ous to those who have so little. We know from today’s Scripture reading that even though we may come to church weekly and pray daily – IF WE ARE INDIFFERENT TO THOSE IN NEED – OUR FAITH IS DEAD! The Lord calls us to generosity and action. Failure to do so places us with the dead! THE BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL is a most important part of our life in the Diocese of Paterson and that is why we shall hear of this opportunity to help those who depend upon our faith and generosity for the next few weeks. All of us are being asked to participate; some can do more than others. The important part is THAT WE ALL PARTICIPATE IN THE APPEAL. Participation is a sign of commitment. I offer once again the invitation to anyone interested in serving as an extra ordinary minis-ter of Holy Communion to attend one of the two gatherings this week either on Tuesday evening at 7 o’clock or Saturday morn-ing at 10 o’clock, both will meet in the church. Information and training for this ministry will take place. Please see me, Father Marcin or Father Mateusz for further information. Next Sunday we observe CATECHETICAL SUNDAY. I am looking forward to sharing with you the wonderful faith formation programs which we have going on here in Rockaway. We begin an exciting year filled with a variety of opportunities you and the entire family can participate. God bless you! Father Zig

ST. JOSEPH was born at Cupertino, in the diocese of Nardo in the Kingdom of Naples, in 1503. After spending his childhood an adolescence in simplicity and innocence, he finally joined the Franciscan Friars Minor Conventual. After his ordination to the holy priesthood he gave himself up entirely to a life of humiliation, mortification, and obedience. He was most devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary and promoted devotion to her among all classes of people. It is said that the life of this Saint was marked by ecstasies and levitations.. The mere mention of God of a spiritual matter was enough to take him out of his senses; at Mass he frequently floated in the air in rapture. Once as Christmas carols were being sung he soared to the high altar and knelt in the air, rapt in prayer. The people flocked to him in droves seeking help and advice in the confessional, and he converted many to a truly Christian life. However, this humble man had to endure many severe trials and terrible temptation throughout his life. He died on September 18, 1663, and was canonized in 1767 by Pope Clement XIII. PRAYER God, You willed that Your only-begotten Son should draw all things to Himself when He was lifted up above the earth. May the merits and example of St. Joseph, Your Priest, help us to rise above all earthly desires so that we may come to Jesus.
