September 1, 2019

You have approached Mount Zion and the city of the living God.

— Hebrews 12:22a

Saint Charles Parish San Diego / Imperial Beach Page Two

Daily Prayer For Priests O Jesus, I pray for your faithful and fervent priests; For your unfaithful and tepid priests; For your priests laboring at home or abroad in distant mission fields. For your tempted priests; For your lonely and desolate priests; For your young priests; For your dying priests; For the souls of your priests in Purgatory. But above all, I recommend to you the priests dearest to me: The priest who baptized me; The priests who absolved me from my sins; The priests at whose Masses I assisted and who gave me Your Body and Blood in Holy Communion; The priests who taught and instructed me; All the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way (especially_________). O Jesus, keep them all close to your heart, And bless them abundantly in time and in Eternity. Amen By St. Therese of Lisieux

Our Mission St. Charles is a Christ focused, diverse, family centered, Catholic community serving Imperial Beach and the South Bay. We believe in the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist and His saving grace received through the Sacraments. We believe in the Holy Catholic Church instituted by Jesus, the sanctity of life, the value of family, and lifelong Catholic education for all ages. We live to deepen our love of God, spread His Gospel and bring others to Christ. We are committed to a life of prayer, sacrifice, and service to those in need. With love, humility, and joyful obedience, we strive to be transformed and guided by the Holy Spirit until we are transformed in the eternal life of Heaven.

HUMILITY

Humility is a virtue we don’t see much in our times. It seems that bragging, swaggering, and arrogance dominate our fashion for everything and our Internet conversations. Who hasn’t been irritated by the “trolls” who try (usually with bad grammar and poor spelling) to start an online fight with those whose opinions do not align with theirs? Our stores, cata-logs, and online shopping sites are full of useless items geared in use and price to the very rich, as ordinary, useful things seem to fade off the sales scene. As the rich get richer, the poor get poorer and the middle class is fading away. What is the antidote to this? Humility is a good place to start. Devotion to God is worth more than riches. “The father of orphans and the defender of widows is God in his holy dwelling. God gives a

home to the forsaken; [God] leads forth prisoners to prosperity.” Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

This year, the Church will celebrate Catechet-ical Sunday on September 15, 2019 and will focus on the theme "Stay With Us." Those who the Community has designated to serve as cate-chists and religion teachers will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry at the 10:00

AM Mass in English and 11:30 AM Mass in Spanish. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Cate-chetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate them-selves to this mission as a community of faith.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
