Mass Intentions

Thank you for respecting God’s Holy Presence by keeping cell phones and other electronic devices outside of this Sacred Space.

Thankfulness from the Depths of My Heart!

I’m blessed to feel affirmed and supported by this faith community on a daily basis, and I am confident that the prayers of many help to spiritually strengthen me each day. Yet on certain occasions like Priesthood Appreciation Sunday, I feel especially blessed and fortunate to be a priest and a pastor! Being a priest is an awesome life - it’s living in the heart of Jesus Christ and sharing the mysteries of His divine love with the Father’s children. I can’t think of a greater life. I would like to thank you for your many affirming words, expressions of gratitude, and for many you who came down to the pancake breakfast! Even more, I’d like to thank you for your own witness to faith in Jesus Christ, which inspires me in my own journey and gives me the courage to strive for holiness each day. You make it easy to serve you! I would especially like to thank Michael and Andrea Richards, Cindy Clarke, Linda Sanborn, Marta Nissen, the Knights of Columbus, and the many volunteers who helped host our breakfast. I always love those parish gatherings where we can enjoy time together...especially when there’s lots of good food! As always, please keep me in your rosaries, chaplets, Mass intentions and other prayers. You are in my prayers everyday.

In Christ,Fr. David

Fr. David enjoyed serving pancakes to parishioners at last weekend’s Pancake Breakfast!

With great joy, St. Christopher Parish welcomed the following newly baptized into His church on September 29:

Increasing Your Faith“If you feel that you are strong in the sense that you possess natural abilities, your faith cannot develop and deepen. That is why you have to experience your weakness; you have to realize that there are things you cannot do. This will be the call to faith.”

A faith sharing meeting takes place each Thursday at 94 Walden Pond Drive in Nashua. All are welcome!

The Servite Rosary The Servite Rosary is a devotion to the 7 Sorrows of Our Blessed Lady and is also known as the Our Sorrowful Mother’s Ministry and is enfolded in Our Lady’s Apostolate of Healing, Reconciliation and Mercy. This devotion originated in the 13th Century and was established by the Order of Friar Servants of Mary. It recalls the lifetime of Sorrows that the Virgin Mother of God endured in compassion for the trials she underwent and the suffering and death of her Divine Son. It consists of seven groups of seven beads each along with an additional 3 beads on the drop (fifty-two in total), seven medals each depicting one of the seven Sorrows and a large Mater Dolorosa medal. Special graces accompany recitation of this Rosary and propagation of this devotion brings the reward of eternal consolation and joy in heaven. I have fourteen of these rosaries and a small pamphlet to go with each rosary (one per family, please) blessed by Fr. David. They will be available after the 4:00 PM mass on Saturday, October 5, 2019 in a basket in the alcove by the side entrance to the church. If there are any left over, I will make them available after the 4:00 PM mass on October 12, 2019. If I run out (God willing), you may purchase one by going to the Apostolate’s website (the shopping part) at www.osmm.org. If you have questions, feel free to contact me at [email protected]. O Mary, conceived without sin, Pray for us who have recourse to thee.

The Miraculous Medal of MaryThe Miraculous Medal (French: Médaille miraculeuse), also known as the Medal of Our Lady of Graces, is a devotional medal, the design of which was originated by Saint Catherine Labouré following her apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Rue du Bac, Paris, France, and made by goldsmith Adrien Vachette. On November 27, 1830, Catherine reported that the Blessed Mother returned during evening meditations. Sister Catherine then heard the Virgin Mary ask her to take these images to her father

Marian Devotions October is noted as Our Lady’s month so that special devotions to Her are especially important during October. Two such devotions are described below:

confessor telling him that they should be put on medallions and saying, “All who wear them will receive great graces”. Pope John Paul II used a slight variation of the reverse image as his coat of arms, the Marian Cross, a plain cross with an M underneath the right-hand bar (which signified the Blessed Virgin at the foot of the Cross when Jesus was being crucified)..”[ I have 30 of these blessed medals to give away. They come from the Association of the Miraculous Medal but are given to you free of charge. They will be in a basket in the alcove at the side entrance to the church after the 4:00 PM Mass on October 5, 2019. First come, first serve. Again, if there are some left over, I will leave the basked in the alcove after the 4 PM mass for those who may be attending the Sunday masses on October 6th. If you would like more information about the Association, feel free to email them at https://www.amm.org or you may email me at [email protected]. May the blessings, powers and graces of Our Blessed Mother be a center of your prayers during October and throughout the year, and may She richly bless you and your family. Sue Tracy

Prayer for VocationsO Holy Spirit, Spirit of wisdom and divine love, impart Your knowledge, understanding, and counsel to youth that they may know the vocation wherein they can best serve God. Give them courage and strength to follow God’s holy will. Guide their uncertain steps, strengthen their resolutions, shield their chastity, fashion their minds, conquer their hearts, and lead them to the vine-yards where they will labor in God’s holy service. Amen.

Prayer to Saint MichaelSt. Michael the Archangel defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell, Satan and all the evil spirits who wander around the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Family Connection to this Week’s Gospel

Gospel Reading: Luke 17:5-10

Jesus teaches the apostles the importance of faith and service to God.

There is much in today’s Gospel that resonates in family life. In our daily attempts as parents to live up to the confidence and trust that our children place in us, we come to know the wonders that God can do with just a little faith. In family life we also learn about obligations that are their own rewards. The daily tasks that family members do for one another and for the household are simply the manifestations of our responsibilities to one another. Take a turn with each member of the family and identify some of the little things that each family member does that make a big difference in your family life. Read today’s Gospel, Luke 17:5-10. Talk about how each person is called upon by God to believe that God can work miracles in our lives, that God can use us to make a difference in our world. Together as a family, pray Saint Ignatius of Loyola’s Prayer of Generosity. Ask that God will work through your family to make a difference in the lives of those around you. About Our Catholic Faith:

What is the oil of the sick?

The passage most often cited as a scriptural witness for sacramental anointing of the infirm is in the Letter of James (5:14). In Mark 6, Jesus gave the Twelve “authority over unclean spirits” (v. 7), and “they went off and preached repentance” (v. 12). The very next verse, however, indicates the use of oil in healing the sick in Christ’s name from even this apostolic age: “They drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them” (v. 13).

The oil used most often by priests, its prayer of blessing reminds believers that healing of the sick comes about through Jesus Christ. Oil’s multifaceted purpose, mentioned earlier, is indicated when the prayer refers to oil as that “which nature has provided to serve the needs of men.”

As the Instruction of the Rite of Blessing of Oils says, in the anointing, “the sick receive a remedy for the illness of mind and body, so that they may have strength to bear suffering and resist evil and obtain the forgiveness of sins.” All who receive anointing with this oil receive God’s blessing, as the prayer of blessing says, so “that they may be freed from pain and illness and made well again in body, mind and soul.”

Prayer for PriestsGracious and loving God, we thank you for the gift of our priests. Through them, we experience your presence in the sacraments. Help our priests be strong in their vocation. Set their souls on fire for your people. Grant them the wisdom, understanding, and strength they need to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Inspire them with the vision of your Kingdom. Give them the words they need to spread the Gospel. Allow them to experience joy in their ministry. Help them to become instruments of your Divine grace. We ask this through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns as our Eternal Priest. Amen.
